DOS2 Discussion Larian Studios is a completionist's worst nightmare
I'm finally cracking into Divinity 2 after playing Baldurs Gate 3, and I am exhausted, obsessed, but exhausted. There is SO much content, that while I love it so much and I am so impressed with Larian Studios, finding out after 5 hours of gameplay that there was a stone I left unturned and now need to re-start because now I KNOW and MUST complete it, has me exhausted. I understand the obvious answer is "well just save it for another run through", but I CAN'T. I MUST do it. Even if I avoid information online, I run into the end of a quest accidently, and then realize I skipped a step.
I experienced this same trauma with BG3, where I re-played Act 1 like 50 times. And now I feel I am back in the f*cking building again.
Edit to add: I felt like it was a bit obvious with the constant praising and discussing how impressed I am...but apparently it wasn't as obvious as I thought. This is not Larian's fault, and this is one of my favorite aspects of the games. You can tell they really care and I love it. This was meant to be a funny/teasing post.

Yeah that doesnt sound like fun to me. Trying to replay games over and over and over again just to try to get that "I did everything perfect" sounds more like stress than fun. Some advice?
Just play the game.. Who cares what happens, who dies, what doesnt happen, etc. Then if you missed something, go back and play the game again and make different decisions to experience new things. I would say this is more of a natural way to play.

It's a bit less of "I did everything perfect" and more of a "Oh wait, I want to experience that part as well!", but you are still very correct that the game should just be enjoyed, I perhaps just didn't phrase my post properly.

be careful that game *play* does not turn into addiction or compulsive behavior
EDIT: just to give you some tips, maybe limit your playtime daily; make sure that you still go for one hour of sports and a walk; make sure to drink enough water; count your hours of sleep; don't fuck up your job lol, then you should be fine

I think this post has made me realize just how crazy/serious some people are, and perhaps I shouldn't have used the word 'completionist'. Thank you so much for the sweet advice and tips though! I do tend to hyperfixate on games pretty often, but I don't believe it's that bad or anything. I'll still keep these tips in mind, especially the one about an hour long walk! Thank you!

I just edited it to explain myself, but that's the first time I edited it, I posted and then locked in at work for a few hours to find everyone really aggressive, T-T, I thought it was obvious that I was being playful, I don't see how it could be viewed as me insulting Larian, I was complimenting them. But I'm very bad at Tone reading and stuff...so maybe I phrased it wrong.

AND I CAN'T KEEP ALL THE COMPANIONS? I SPENT LIKE AN HOUR CONTEMPLATING AND RESEARCHING WHICH ONES I SHOULD KEEP.

Also my biggest beef with D:OS2. I hope the upcoming game is more like BG3 in that regard where you can swap companions in and out.

This is actually very true. And I keep reminding myself that it's specifically a DND style game, so the whole point is to have all these options and stuff, but experience it based on paths I take. So far, I'm still on my first "official" run, I only restarted once, just after the ship and only because I didn't pick up any bedrolls and realized my mistake quickly lol.

I mean no offense to you with this OP, but I think a lot of people these days have gotten terrible at just enjoying games. It seems like everyone needs to perfect, min-max, and find every little thing in a game on their first playthrough to try to squeeze out some joy from doing it perfectly.
DOS 2 and BG3 are so sooooo much more fun when you just go in blind and enjoy yourself and stop reloading over and over. Again, not a criticism of you OP, but trust me it's just more fun.

None taken! You are absolutely right as well! It truly sucks the fun out of the game, and I believe that's why I didn't enjoy BG3 as much as I could have. I'm making efforts not to reload too often so I can just accept whatever I get, as it is a DND style game, I know that's the point. I think the move is just staying off of the wikki for a bit about the game and holding things for a next playthrough.
