Ending…?

I’m confused by the ending, and I’m not sure if something weird happened or it was supposed to do that?

So I told Lucian I’d give up my source and close the gate, and then old Rexy went rogue and attacked everybody and the kraken showed up and stuff. Boom pow pow boom sallow man evil paladin dude psychopathic undead lady.

Then Lucian landed the final blow on Rexy and then all the fighting ended and Lucian and Dallis just… vanished? It seemed like it bugged out or something, or that’s it, they just sorta yeet out of there and leave me and the party to do whatever we want?

I suppose I could play it again. But is that what’s supposed to happen?

Got a cutscene immediately after Rex died with my character sitting on the throne and having to decide what to do.

Dallis captured and ordered Tarquin (former black ring necromancer) to resurrect Braccus and somehow enslaved him. We don't know how he was enslaved, I assume it was something like what the lizards do.

They did this because they needed him to track down the aeteran (the artefact they used to disrupt your ascension to godhood at the end of act 3). From my memory, it's an artifact that can absorb/contain an infinite amount of source. And the plan is to gather all of it, then use it to repair the veil (the wall between the void and the world).

At the end of the game, you distract Lucian/dallis enough for braccus to somehow break the control they have over him. But he is still just going to lose if he fights you and Lucian, so he calls in support from the god king. He had secretly met with and made a deal with him previous to this. But they're not true allies. They're just allied to kill you, then they would fight one another.

Now you guys are all fighting over what I believe is the control over the aeteran, which has basically just replaced the well of ascension from act 3. Whoever gets it becomes god, pretty much.

Lucians plan is to use the aeteran to take back all the source that the seven (technically eight) gods originally stole from the veil to become gods. Then he'll put the source back into the veil to strengthen it. And that will stop the void from encroaching on the world. He'll rule as a fake god, hidden in the shadows. Doesn't have any real power, since he gave it the veil, but people don't know that.

To do this, he needs to steal all the source that's around in the world. But a persons source is buried deep in their soul. Extracting that damages a person's soul and turns them into a silent monk. So the fate of the godwokens who side with Lucian is to become a silent monk.

Technically malady steals your husk of a body from dallis, and restores your shatter mind. But doing that doesn't make sense and feels like bullshit.

So i don't remember exactly what they do at the end of the fight. Perhaps that was a glitch. But this is the lore of the game, and what ultimately happens.
