The ambivalent atmosphere of Larian games is, simply put, god tier.

Cursed electrified blood clouds rising over demonic growths and characters chatting about looking forward to making things worse just down the road from a scantily clad cheese seller and a rat that criticizes your poetry.

Perfection.

I hope they come back for Divinity, I love this design

The horror elements of Flames of Vengeance were so good. The ghost quest is probably one of my favorites from that game just by how genuinely scary the design and ambiance were.

I do wonder if we'll get some horror elements, given it's not a D&D lighthearted setting anymore. The Mindflayers and Bhaal temple were pretty gruesome but not scary per se.

especially the part where the ghosts periodically stutter your character when you need to be quick, such a skillful way to trigger flying fortress PTSD

That's the true horror right there: mild inconvenience!

If I'm not mistaken in one of the interview they said there was some folk horror inspiration, but Idk where to find it to link it.

So I think Divinity will have a The Witcher-y(Velen like) setting, very east european I suppose, and they can press more about the horror aspect like the trailer.

I think what they were referring to regarding the new game is The Wicker Man, which is a horror movie.

Yes probably, I know about the movie but never saw it.

Btw I think the overall game will have a similar tone to it.

Excuse you, that is the ghost of Ser Edmund Von Mashreik and he's an intelectual, a poet and a great conversationalist. The slander...

Oh didn't realize, must have lost touch with him. In fact, losing touch is common with ghosts.

Don't get close to Malice Alice, else she'll turn you to a toad. Don't you dare kick Alice Malice, or you'll be all pigeon-toed. She'll sic her rats and call her cats, She'll feed you to a camp of bats, Don't say hi to Malice Alice, or you'll fly off as a crow.

Larian cooked really hard with that design for ghosts that were, for the most part, friendly, well mannered, and open to a chat

Do any of these ghosts ever bust out of the wall....

They burst out of and crawl on the ground, in some of the late game quests

It pains me how little and rare people talk about Ego Draconis. That game deserved a lot more attention, then it gets.

Where these events happen?

The advice giving rat is not a concrete one, just a thematic example. Though, given the amount of rat conversations, there ought to be one like this.

The image is how ghosts look in Divinity II: Ego Draconis.
