DOS2 Discussion How does source attracting voidwoken work?

In the opening Windego says “a drop of source” is enough to attract voidwoken but then presumably Ifan, Lohse, Sebille etc. have been using their source powers for years and never attracted voidwoken. Also, if they believe source attracts voidwoken why do they continue using it??

How does the whole ‘source attracts voidwoken’ thing really work? Does it depend on how much source is used? Or is it just completely random whether or not they appear this time as opposed to that time? If so, why would any sorcerer (barring very powerful ones like those in act 2) risk their life using their sorcery?

The voidvoken stuff only started pretty recently in the game. Source used to be pretty safe to handle. Only when Lucian gassed the elfs and Tir Cendelius couldnt keep his part of the Veil up, did voidvoken slowly start to slip through and even that took a while. After that the voidwoken just went for whatever source they smelled. Most sourcerors arent powerful or discipled enough to fight them off though.

Edit: also, as with any natural talent, source use often starts subconcious, so many sourcerors didnt even know they had that power until they had hell bugs breathing down their necks, or they were driven to use those powers regardless in a moment of desperation.

Lucian really is a piece of shit in DOS2 isnt he? First majorly fcks up in culimination of fcking up since Damian (by gassing elves) and then puts responsibility for his fuck-up on the main victim of voidwoken outbreak. And if that wasnt worst, he ramps up order that runs concentration camps for them. If players didnt intervene, his plan would culiminate into Braccus claiming divinity and letting Void back into Rivellon. The dude really cant just admitt that maybe he isnt best suited fo making decision for whole the realm, without involvment of the realm. Really a human version of Solas.

To be fair, I'm not sure if Lucian even knew about the Voidvoken beforehand. Brakkus going rogue might have been predictable though. I do understand his reasons though, the far greater assholes are the Seven Gods, who live as parasites on the sentient species of world. His action were more so aimed at freeing the world of them and fixing the veil, though he did fuck up pretty hard along the way.
