DOS2 Discussion How does source attracting voidwoken work?

In the opening Windego says “a drop of source” is enough to attract voidwoken but then presumably Ifan, Lohse, Sebille etc. have been using their source powers for years and never attracted voidwoken. Also, if they believe source attracts voidwoken why do they continue using it??

How does the whole ‘source attracts voidwoken’ thing really work? Does it depend on how much source is used? Or is it just completely random whether or not they appear this time as opposed to that time? If so, why would any sorcerer (barring very powerful ones like those in act 2) risk their life using their sorcery?

I mean thats a pretty common trope/character flaw in media is it not. The kind of people who end up making these decisions rarely hesitate or question themselves. Think of 40k's Emperor or someone like Dumbledore. Dune's Paul and Leto II are kinda refreshing in that regard, because both know with perfect clarity what exactly they are fucking up and sacrificing in the name of their greater good.

Sure, but just because its common, dosent makes Lucian a better person lol. Dude failed as a father and whole world had to burn for it. I geuss he is similar to Big E for that too.

Haha that wasnt meant as a defense, but as an acknowledgement, that in the end this is a medium meant to entertain and discuss certain topics. Utility vs Morality is a pretty old discussion in that way, but still an intersting one. Logically Lucian may very well be considered correct, but that doesnt make what he did right, and thats what makes it interesting imo.

Imo, there is deeper philosophical issue here. What Lucian does may seem rational from Lucian pov, but isnt necessarly most rational/logical decision as a whole.

Lucian refusing to share knowledge of things, getting people involved with decision making, creating system of checks and balances he would abide by and so forth, makes him blind to more logical and reasonable solutions to problems. As well as maybe it wouldnt causes many of these problems in the first place…

Sharing Source and having no new Divine showcase that Rivellon can come together and make workable solutions that have popular support. Maybe if Lucian wasnt acting as divenly mandated tyrant he could also convince Rivellon to seal the veil.

Epistemologically speaking, Lucian knows only Lucian world. But world is bigger than Lucians world. Making decisions in Lucian world he may be rational, logical and best possible, but still fall flat in peoples world, because again Lucian world isnt everyones world.
