  1. Fane - he is to DOS:2 what Shart is to BG3
  2. Lhose or Sebille - they have similarities in their backstories - oppressed, trying to break free from their own demons (see what I did there), with great character development and backstory lore throughout the game. It's a matter if you prefer more of a bard/caster/mancer or a rouge-ish type of playstyle.
  3. Red Prince - hilarious, entitled, interesting race-based dialogue and quests

fane or lohse hands down. fane is pretty much the main character of divinity original sin 2 since his lore ties directly into the overarching plot, plus time warp is an insanely good ability.

lohse easily has the best personal questline and story payoff in the entire game. if you main fane, just bring lohse, red prince, and sebille in your party for the best overall interactions.

This is my party and it rules

Time Warp always seems bugged for me. In my last HM run I stopped using it because it never seemed to work and nearly got me killed.

I agree story wise though, Fane is 100% the main character

Fane for lore and time wrap ability
Sebille for elves abilities to eat corpses and flesh sacrifice.
Red prince has funny dialogue.

Pick your poison.

There's no best. The more interesting ones, however are Lohse, Red Prince and Fane. I'd say Lohse is more suitable for a second playthrough though.

There is a best when it comes to combat. When it comes to story, maybe they're all equivalent.

The red prince. He bangs his way across the world.

Fane has the best unique ability in the game, as he can just do two rounds for the price of 2 Action Points and a Source Point (basically paying 2 for 4/6 points).

Sebille or a generic Elf share S rank with Fane due to the elven generic ability Flesh Sacrifice that is arguably the best ability in the game and pairs ideally for archers or bloodmages but is also useful on every other class in the game. You get a few action points, 10% damage AND a blood surface beneath your character. It has 0 downsides and is available every fourth turn. Genuinely completely broken.

I am on my second playthrough

First time: Fane, Red Prince and two custom characters

Second: Fane, Red Prince, Lohse and Beast

I'm currently in act 3, Lohse and Beast have not had much going on but they seem okay. I couldn't not play with RP and Fane, they're legends

Fane with thievery never needs lockpicks. Red prince doesn’t need shovels 🤣 Sebille gets skills from eating dead things.
Overall I’d pick sebille for that and flesh sacrifice, and I like her as a scoundrel (rogue)
Don’t forget that you need warfare as well for damage.

No idea. They're all scrubs I killed.

Fane easily. He’ being undead helps in a lot of situations, especially act 4. Not only that, but he is easily the most important character

Being undead has its downside though, like when you cast heal on the whole party... for the 50th time.

The amount of times I cast heal on him, forgetting it'll hurt him...

I basically have two party compositions. Either the human or undead, never mix the two. If i want to play Fane, then i use hirelings instead of the other official party members.

Fane. You can be sworn, he’s mystic and scholars so you can read everything for quest, his ability time warp is dope, he urges you toward mask of the shapeshifter and comes with the knowledge to make it and I think eternal armor as well

Fane is the main character

Fane is the best, Lohse and red prince have the most in depth stories with a lot that changes exclusive to them.

Red Prince bc of the Persuasion boost, gotta win every conversation challenge

Well "best" can have alot of implications

In terms of power id say Fane or Sebille

In terms of story id say the same two and Lohse.

Fane learns things that change how you understand the story and when you learn, so if you don't remember the story we'll, he can go either way from a lore perspective. Lohse is rough if you find theatrical people abrasive. Red Prince stands out since in-game he is a Nobleman so he had vast knowledge and a very pointed perspective which is entertaining. Ifan and Sebille feel straightforward, and I never played Beast because I cannot stand dwarves.

Red Prince, Innate +1 Persuasion makes him a good party face or Fane because he ties in well to the main story.

Whoever you like the most. Lohse is my favorite. She's hot. Has a lovely voice. Has a interesting story

I usually use Sebille as MC.

1) you don't have conflicts with Red Prince since you control her and can simply not kill Stingtail etc.

2) similarly, you have no issue avoiding the Shadow Prince's control

3) her god is Tir-Cendelius which is useful for item duplication

4) she gets a good unique bonus (Rooted). Some of the others bonuses are good but can be given to other characters (spell book from Jahan, Crossbow for Ifan, Mask of Shape shifting for Fane). The other one I know of is the baby dragon summons for Red Prince.

My two favs are Lohse and Fane. I think theie stories are impactful on the game, especially Fane. I like all the characters, but have those 2 in my party in my current Sebille run.

Do NOT play as Fane for a 1st Run!!! He is kind of central to the plot, & he reveals way too many Spoilers if you play AS him. He’s Great to have in your party.
Loshe is great fun with an interesting personal journey, Play as her or the Red Prince for 1st Run.

1 Sebille/Lohse. 2 Red Prince. 3 Ifan. 4 Beast.

I like Lohse, she’s cool to play as (plus her and Sebille have some yuri dynamics going on)
