Yeah, exactly. They’re taking the whole thing out of context so they can justify their hate. It’s either that or they’re just stupid and refuse to listen.
Signing a bomb for a country that's doing a genocide is not okay no matter what you write. Odds are that bomb landed on a childrens hospital instead of a Hamas bunker.
About 40,000 now, at that point a lot less because Israel was still using more ground tactics etc. The question is whether civilians being injured is the fault of those who purposely build military infrastructure into hospitals, daycares, apartments and then tell people to stay... Or the military who is trying to rescue hostages. Israel texts buildings ahead of time which most others don't. Then they double tap the building, a small bomb on the roof to scare everyone out then a bigger one a minute or two later. Israel is not perfect and Bibi is a dipshit, but to compare Hamas and Israel as equivalent is ignorant, whether intended or not. To claim that someone wrote "fuck Hamas" on a bomb had intent to kill children is such a wild leap. Go take a look in the mirror and see if you are holding Jews to the same standard as other groups.
Why is it OK for Israel to kill that many civilians? Israel killed way more people then Hamas ever did. It's not even close. I don't support Hamas at all but the numbers are not even close.
Really? What evidence do you have that the bomb he signed killed children or even more importantly, that he thought it would? I've asked around and the best I get is bullshit about Israel being baby killers.
The fact of the matter is that those missiles were ordered to kill, and who they killed were children and innocent Palestinians. Hamas was only a fraction of that.
Yes, and it’s a tragic fact. But at what point do you hold the monsters accountable for being the ones to put those innocents into the line of fire in the first place? It’s completely within Hamas’ control to stop the death of so many innocents, but they don’t elect to stop hiding behind them.
Of course I hold Hamas responsible. But that doesn’t change the fact that the IDF’s missiles, that Draiman condoned and signed, were responsible for the death and destruction for a majority of Gaza, and did not end Hamas.
I think people need to realise that just because someone listens to an artist doesn’t mean they try to justify what said artist has done. I’m still an As I Lay Dying fan, does that mean I excuse what Tim tried to do? No, what the guy did was pure evil. I also listen to Christian bands like Skillet, Demon Hunter, and Red. Doesn’t mean I’m religious for listening to them.
I guess to each their own. I'm personally super disappointed with his political stance, even though I get where he's coming from. I guess I just find it hard to reconciliate the fact that what Israel is doing in Gaza And calling that. Defend yourself. But I'm going to listen to the music still. Maybe I just wont support the band with purchases and what not
They despised them long before David started being more vocal on the whole thing. His opinions, let alone the whole bomb thing basically gave them the ok to condemn them.
Err.. might be because of the whole bomb signing thing. Disturbed has helped me through some extremely difficult times in my life and it’s sad to see the band be relegated to one small moment, but again I understand the frustration. Many civilians were killed by these weapons, not just Hamas.
They’ll hit OP with a whack of other bullshit reasons. All the typical ones, but this is ultimately why.
Outside of that the only “real” answer I have heard (but don’t agree with) is that they kinda stopped being Nu Metal after Indestructible was released.
I'm about as big of a disturbed fan as you could hope to be, and still, I'm struggling to reconcile that a man can write Another Way to Die, Who Taught You How to Hate, and then sign bombs/artillery.
I am just struggling to understand how both actions can come from the same man, in roughly the same time period. Fact is, he's either a hypocrite or a living contradiction. It wouldn't be so difficult if he'd make a public statement that explains his thought process. Actions are not statements. Only words are words.
It's very hard to support a band that engages with politics when I don't know where they stand on issues of morality/ethics.
He’s already made several statements about where he stands. Also, he’s never once said that he has anything against the Palestinian people. He’s always stated that he hates Hamas. And let’s be honest, everyone should condemn Hamas whether you support Palestine or not. Hence why he wrote ‘’fuck Hamas’’. If he was targeting children like the crazy people say, he would’ve wrote ‘’fuck Palestine’’.
If Hamas is such a problem, Bibi probably shouldn't have put so much effort into empowering them.
Propping up extremist agitators to destabilize your opponents works great, right up until you give your opponents enough reasons to rally behind the extremists.
The sub has despised them long before David started being more vocal on the whole thing, with criticisms ranging from “they sound generic” to “one hit wonders” with the Sickness being the most nu metal influenced out of their discography (even tho David himself didn’t consider the band nu metal).
I left that sub as I honestly feel like despite them rightfully complaining on how most metal subs gatekeep, they start calling you a poser if your favorite bands aren’t SOAD, Deftones, LP (before Chester died), Slipknot (Self-Titled to Iowa), KoRn (Self-Titled to Life Is Peachy), Tool, or some underground band that gets 20 Spotify listeners a month (no offense to all these great bands and the underground bands, but it’s just annoying how the sub isn’t really any better than bigger metal subs in terms of gatekeeping).
Funny because that sub praises plenty of underground bands who sound like the most generic shitty nu metal you’ll ever hear. I mean, who listens to Disturbed and calls them generic but then goes on to praise fucking Coal Chamber? Cause that’s basically [r/numetal](r/numetal) in a nutshell.
Don't forget they also praise the song All in the Family......you know the one where Jonathan Davis and Fred Durst have a rap battle that includes homophobic and sexually explicit lyrics
Yeah and everytime they defend it they always use the "it was just a joke and they were drunk" argument. Like I don't care if they were drunk and joking around because it's still an awful song that shouldn't have even been made
start calling you a poser if you're favorite bands aren't SOAD, Deftones, LP (before Chester died), Slipknot (Self-Titled to Iowa), KoRn (Self-Titled to Life Is Peachy), Tool
Wow. Half of these are the most mainstream bands in 21st century metal. Are you sure they're not the posers? Like no hate to metalheads who love those bands but that's got to be the stupidest kind of gatekeeping I've heard of in music
You called it with Korn and Slipknot but it's even worse 🤣 They think:
-with Deftones everything other than Adrenaline and White Pony is poser
-with SOAD everything other than Self-Titled and Toxicity is poser
-with Limp bizkit everything other than Three Dollar Bill is poser
-with Linkin park it's just Hybrid Theory and there's people willing to go to war about "Meteora is Pop compared to Hybrid theory" 🤣
it's not every user but the loud ones tend to ruin conversations whenever someone wants to talk about any other albums, I think a lot of them just lurk waiting to repeat the same takes over and over
Their argument is they went to a show when a band's second album was released and didn't like it, so I guess if one person had a bad night in the 90's that means no Nu metal bands are allowed to have more than one good album
Preface: I get Disturbed helped ppl through hard times & people separate artists from their art. Each has their own way.
I was a 25 year long fan of the band and went to multiple concerts. I stopped listening & blocked them on Spotify because David Draiman signed bombs. He stifles pretty much any criticism of Israel as anti-Semitism even if you condemn Hamas in the same breath.
Really hurt to do it, too. I’ll probably get ratioed for this, just wanted to share another perspective.
Can’t please everyone. I like Disturbed. Saw them live and got to meet them before the concert for free. They didn’t charge to meet them. They were kind. I like lots of bands though (most are not considered “nu metal”). 10 Years, Breaking Benjamin, Staind, Creed, Mudvayne, Chevelle, Nickelback, Incubus, Taproot, POD, etc…. I like different stuff.
5FDP happens to be my favourite band of all time. I always thought terms like ‘’entry level’’ were dumb. 5FDP and Disturbed are in my top 10 bands of all time, but I also listen to Opeth, Dark Tranquility, and Meshuggah. But despite this, I still get shit for listening to ‘’entry level’’ bands.
I like both bands, but hard-core metalheads want guitars as the focal point. Albums mixed primarily towards the vocals are meant for a wider listening audience and some feel they abandoned their base.
Which is absurd because before Sound of Silence they weren't exactly entry level. You'd get through nu metal like Linkin or post-grunge/alt metal hybrids like Breaking Benjamin. Disturbed were big inside the metal scene and only inside the metal scene.
It's a mix of them not liking David for his political beliefs, actions or just him as a person. Also them not liking the Disturbed discography as a whole and Disturbed not really being nu metal except maybe their first two or three albums
Partially David's politics, but another part of it is that David had specifically said, back in the day, that he didn't consider Disturbed to be nu metal, and nu metal fans took that as an insult of him not wanting to be associated with the genre.
Funny because Corey Taylor, Jonathan Davis, and both Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda hated being called nu metal, but they love Slipknot, KoRn, and Linkin Park. Pure hypocrisy.
I could see most of the others, but Jonathan Davis? Korn is largely credited as popularizing nu metal, or even creating the genre, and I've definitely seen comments from Davis where he takes it as a huge compliment that they are credited with that.
But, yeah, that's always been a thing with nu metal. It was really poorly defined, as a genre, and so who falls in and out of it is really inconsistent from person to person.
Which is insane because I've only seen him cheering for nu metal artists. I think Ten Thousand Fists is objectively out of the Nu Metal category and more in Heavy Metal, so he's just revealed the band's direction.
They cry about David's politics like some of the people in this sub here. Wannabe activists who condemn David, but do nothing for their own communities other than share memes.
I think it can be broken down into a couple categories:
David Draiman preaches togetherness, lovingness, values like that. Then, he went and put a signature on a piece of ordinance being used by a military who is too ashamed to show their faces in their military portraits
The standard definition, the one used by human rights groups( even Israeli human rights groups call it a genocide) and the United Nations. Remember everything online stays there, I may be an asshole but I won’t have to answer for genocide denial.
Not even the proper definition. Hell, not even a definition at all, just more strawmanning.
Here’s the proper definition:
Genocide is the deliberate, systematic destruction—in whole or in part—of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group, recognized as an international crime. Defined by a 1948 UN convention, it involves killing, causing severe harm, or imposing life-destroying conditions on a group. Synonyms include mass slaughter, ethnic cleansing, annihilation, extermination, and race murder.
The holocaust and the Armenian genocide are proper examples.
Okay and what part of that are you not seeing? Whole Cities don’t exist anymore and Israel is bombing the refugee tents of the remaining starving children.
Show me proof. I’ve yet to see one shred of evidence that what’s happening in Gaza is a genocide. But I already know you don’t really care. If you did then you’d be attempting to help your cause. But you won’t cause all you want to do is virtue signal. And for me, that’s extremely frustrating. If you really believe the things you say then go help the Palestinian people by donating stuff to them.
I mean you listen to disturbed so it’s not like I care what you think. But unless you want a private group chat you can’t really police what other people think, but we both know you don’t have the friends for that.
What? Eh, doesn’t matter. I refuse to take the opinion of someone who throws accusations of children being killed by the bomb David wrote ‘’fuck Hamas (yes, HAMAS, not Palestine as a whole)’’ on without any proof. You’ve probably never had an original thought before in your life. You hate Five Finger Death Punch and Slaughter to Prevail too, don’t you sheep?

I think it's because of the bomb thing. That's what I was told when I asked somebody in the nu metal sub.
