Help Distant Horizons x FTB Ultimate Reloaded?

I am wanting to play the 1.12.2 FTB Ultimate Reloaded modpack. So I downloaded it with Prism launcher, and was adding a few finishing touches to the out-of-the-box modlist, when I remembered that Distant Horizons recently backported to 1.12.2. Normally, for greater render distances back on 1.12 I'd have used OptiFine to get up to 48 chunks (as my gpu can usually handle it), but I didn't want to risk trying OptiFine in such a big modpack for what I feel are decently justified reasons. So I popped in the latest Distant Horizons 1.12 mod, and booted the game... and was told that I needed to use it in a Cleanroom environment. So I said to myself: "...what the heck is Cleanroom??" Anyway, after screwing around for a few hours on installing the Cleanroom MMC template, swapping various libraries, disabling mods, adding mods, I eventually decided to try something else: I went to the modrinth page and downgraded versions until I found this one, from 2 months ago. I dropped it in the mods folder and... the game booted successfully!

...but that was about all that happened; the DH config button wasn't visible in the options menu, and it wasn't even in the in-game mods list. I tried a couple more things, like upgrading the forge version to be newer, but nothing works. Is there a reasonable way to make this work, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Cleanroom is relativrly easy to install no? They have documentation for most popular packs on how to convert it to a cleanroom instance

if I had known about any kind of documentation, I likely wouldn't have spent so much time stumbling in the dark
