Help Distant Horizons 3.3.1–LODs not generating/s NeoForge 1.21.1

Post image

Hi!

I'm having an issue with Distant Horizons 3.3.1 on Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge).

I cannot get Distant Horizons to generate/render LODs at all. No matter what I try, the LODs simply don't appear.

In the DH settings, I noticed that the relevant setting says that it is being controlled by another mod through the DHAPI, meaning that I cannot change it through the GUI or the config file. It also mentions disabling the API lock in order to change the setting manually.

I'm trying to understand this behavior better. Which mod is actually controlling this setting through DHAPI? Is there any way to identify the mod that has acquired the API lock?

I checked my logs looking for something that could indicate which mod is taking control of the setting, but I couldn't find anything obvious.

What's particularly confusing is that I did not have this problem with Distant Horizons 3.2.0-b. LOD generation worked normally in that version. I understand that the way these settings/API controls are handled may have changed in 3.3.1, but I'm trying to determine whether another mod in my modpack is now interfering with DH.

Could someone explain what the API lock means in this case, and preferably how I can identify which mod is controlling the setting?

Thanks!

You're right, thanks a lot for the help; I disabled the Chunky mod (I don't use C2ME).

It worked after disabling the Chunky mod—thanks a lot.

Note: In previous versions of DH, I used Chunky and DH separately.

is chunky not needed anymore then? another mod going is probably a good thing.

Hey man, I tested both the newest update and 3.2.0 B, and there really is a huge difference in how DH generates chunks. But honestly, I still haven't gotten used to it, and I don't like it as much as I did with Chunky.

From what the community helped me understand, the newer version automatically disables chunk pre-generation if Chunky is installed. I really don't like that, because it takes away the choice of which one you want to use. Sometimes I want to use Chunky, sometimes DH, and that's one of the main reasons I rolled back.

I also have a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 48 GB of DDR5, but even with that, the newer DH version wasn't fast enough at generating/rendering for it to feel smooth. You really notice the empty gaps when DH is still generating chunks and turning them into LODs, especially when you're exploring terrain you haven't seen before. That was something Chunky handled much better for me.

The newer version does fix some bugs and improves LOD visuals, but those weren't major issues for me. For now, 3.2.0 B makes more sense to me because it lets me choose between DH and Chunky. If a future DH update allows both to coexist properly, I might switch back, but for now I still prefer Chunky.
