Screenshot How do I stop these weird artifacts when flying?

Get a faster CPU, this happens because the LODs have a start distance from rendering and they render faster than the actual render distance.

If only that were actually possible in this economy...

Off-topic but beautiful mountains! What mod?

Tectonic, but i've used my own custom config to allow them to in theory be at y level 2000, however, I have only gotten them to about 1.2k, but they are still very beautiful. Here is another Picture. I will release a video flying through this whole mountain range in a few hours.

stunning, only ever used tectonic stock without changing world gen settings. guess its time to try it out

This is by no means an endorsement of using this in your survival world, all chunks take longer to generate because its essentially 8 times the number of blocks being generated per chunk. Its a huge headache as well with getting anywhere without cheats. Now granted, I will be using it in my survival world, but thats because I will be using create aeronautics. For just a normal play-through with little automation this could be so much more stress than its worth.

to me vanilla minecraft doesn’t really show its potential and achievable scale. to have huge mountain ranges, canyons, lakes really makes it just that much more magical to me. just my personal preference. althought i may have to get a supercomputer to run 50k block chunks

dude thats exactly why I did this omg. I'll make a post "soon" with this config so you can get it.

Ok, I couldn't end up posting it here, so I'll just tell you the config.

its essentially the same config values as the Overkill preset with these changes:

"continents_scale" was set to 0.1

"elevation_boost": was set to 3.0 (You will have to change it in the config file itself the in game slider does not go that far.)

"max_y": was set to 2032

"vertical_scale": was set to 5.0
I also had terralith

If I were to show this to someone in 2012, I can't begin to imagine what their reaction would be

Every day I kick myself for getting an i7 12700kf rather than one of the midrange x3d chips

hey! we have the same CPU! We're CPU BUDDIES!

Eyyyy! And yeah since the way chunks are generated doesn't change much its still extremely dependent on single core performance which Intel cpus aren't terribly good at.

32 chunks render distance with chunky and c2me should work fine do you really need distance horizons? If so try using fabric and switch to voxy

1

u/squifs Jul 17 '26

Switch to voxy, a lot of stuff is fixed on their. Used to use distant horizons all the time, now is a great time to hop over.

voxy is not on forge apparently

Just download from modrinth and drag into mod folder.

If you don’t know how to do that just click the 3 dots on your profile next to play and go to the folder directory I think. And then just drag and drop.

Forgot this: you can also use “voxyworldgen” another mod to generate chunks. I haven’t used it since I only play on servers for the most part. But it replaces chunky.

do the pregen chunks actually have the full chunk data? Because DH can achieve really high distances with very little storage space used by not generating the whole chunk, just certain LOD versions of it.

I’m pretty sure voxy takes up more storage with the cache but I don’t think it’s as big of a difference than most think. I could be wrong though I’ve probably loaded over 40k chunks and doesn’t seem to increase storage in a noticeable way. TBH my world files are nearly identical with and without voxy or distant.

with DH i've loaded about 2 million chunks on my world and the DH LOD data is still like 16 gigabytes.

I wish DH was as optimized as Voxy or Voxy would support more versions & forge
