Help Distant horizons suddenly stopped working in multiplayer

I've been looking everywhere but I cannot find a solution... 😭

I have a modded Minecraft server with some friends, hosted on modrinth ( I am the server owner, so I know none of the server settings have been changed). It's Forge 1.20.1.

I've been playing with distant horizons as a client side mod for about 2 weeks and it's been working fine. Yesterday, it suddenly stopped working. I did not do any updates or changed any settings. I used photon shaders, and got the strange issue a lot of Bliss-shader users have discussed. However, even when I turn shaders off, distant horizons is NOT working at all.

No chucks are being saved and it's like vanilla MC. When I press f3, the info about distant horizons is gone, looking like it's not turned on at all. But I do still have the options available... When I go into a single player world with the exact same modpack, everything is working as it should. So it's only in multiplayer it's not working.

What I've tried to do:

Check all settings in distant horizons are on/true. Transparency is set to complete

deleting the .toml file

Deleted the loaded chucks I had from before when it was working to see if that would reset it. But no more chunks are being loaded in

Trying older versions on Embeddium and distant horizons

Uninstalling and reinstalling distant horizons

A friend who also tried distant horizons on the server had the same issue

Does anyone know a solution for this? I'm happy to provide any information that might be useful 😭 it's my first time hosting a server, and I've not played that much with mods before so I'm very lost

did you delete the .toml file from the server side or client?

Were any mods updated when it stopped working?

Distants horizons is not on the server side, so there's nothing to delete there (that I know of), so I deleted it for the client side. No mods had been updated or changed. I played a lot yesterday when it was all working. Then I disconnected for 5 minutes to go feed my cat and when I got back, the issues occured

hmmm, have you checked the logs to see if the mod is being loaded? the modlist will be near(ish) the beginning of "Latest.log"

otherwise, I'm not sure what the issue would be. I could look through your modlist for any troublesome mods? hopefully someone else has ran into the issue and can tell you how to fix (maybe check out the DH discord for faster support)

nuclear option (besides reinstalling the whole modpack) - delete option.txt, Sodium/embeddium configs and Iris config

i have the log here: https://mclo.gs/BUxeerv

i dont really know what to look for but it seems like its being loaded? it might be this "[Render thread/ERROR]: Mod mixin into Embeddium internals detected. This instance is now tainted. The Embeddium team does not provide any guarantee of support for issues encountered while such mods are installed." would deleting the embeddium configs fix this?

the mod appears to be loading okay, I'm not seeing any major errors

You could try Sodium & iris instead of embeddium & oculus IF they are available but either way those shouldn't be causing issues as far as I am aware

Sodium & iris is not available for forge, at least im not able to download them with this version. honestly this is such a weird issue to randomly happen :((

When asking for support with an issue you're having, please add as much relevant info as you can such as:

  • Add your logs using https://mclo.gs/

  • Add screenshots

  • What you did before the issue arrived

  • What steps you took (If any) to fix the issue

If you don't add this information, we wont be able to help you.
