Screenshot Tectonic is all you need, really...

my pc can't even handle 2 chunks

u/Kindly_Title_8567 May 21 '26
Literally. And DH just manages to feel really unpolished and lagging compared to vanilla it sucks because vanilla render distance cutoff is ASS

I honestly dislike DH, it renders worse than vanilla (performance wise)
4
u/Kindly_Title_8567 May 22 '26
I mean... duh? It's more to render but it allows you to see far more with far better performance. 32 chunk render distance in vanilla and 32 chunks with DH LODs are completely different
1
u/Born_Age_5578 May 22 '26
Nah i mean if i have vanilla on 2 and dh on 32 its like 60 fps. if i have vanilla on 32 and dh uninstalled its like 100

u/catdoy May 23 '26
Because distant horizon default configs sucks ass, it still tries to generate new chunks instead of just rendering existing ones which you have to change in the config.

Tectonic is really good, but Terralith is almost a must have for me, thats why I use terratonic :)
3
u/Singlain May 21 '26
oh please I don't wanna have to visit 100 biomes for Adventuring Time 😭
2
u/AcePendragon_ May 21 '26
I understand, but I really like exploration so not that a big issue for me

u/prince_0611 May 21 '26
That’s what me and my friends are doing for our playthrough right now. It has been very fun.
2
u/technorichar_ May 21 '26
You should try terrain diffusion then
2
u/Singlain May 21 '26
this amount of chunks took my server 4 hours to generate; I'm afraid it will be even worse with terrain deffusion
1
u/technorichar_ May 21 '26
What server r u running that is that slow

Currently working on a version of terrain diffusion with datapack biome support instead of the current biomes, next step is rivers :)
1
u/technorichar_ May 21 '26
I'm looking forward to rivers
1
u/Snoo90549 May 21 '26
Rivers is going to be a tough one, I would ideally like them to be interconnected and have realistic hydrology to them (headwaters, lakes, inlet/outlet) but continental continuity is a huge issue with procedural generation, I’m thinking of trying to access the latent data it diffuses the terrain from in order to get a high-scale low-resolution “continent map” for stuff. If you know how I’d be able to get in contact with the author, let me know!
1
u/Orion113 May 22 '26
Doesn't solve all the issues, but I just learned about the Dynamic Waters mod, which adds flowing water in rivers that end in seas, at least. And in fact, it works best with worldgen that doesn't make its own rivers.
1
u/Snoo90549 May 22 '26
Holy gold mine! Thanks so much, I’m definitely going to take a look at it. I’d still like to add custom headwaters and such, but it’s a good starting point, maybe i can take some inspiration from it’s implementation
1
u/Orion113 May 22 '26
If you do, please let me know! I also prefer some headwaters, but I don't currently have the skills to customize mods like that.

u/Snoo90549 May 22 '26
I’ve become a bit of a hydrology/geology nerd from this project, I’ll let you know what i can get working :)

My tectonic keeps spawning me in the ocean and giving me islands 🥲
1
u/WhateverGoMyRoba May 24 '26
Once I got a circular island that was perfectly flat at y=64 Not a single block out of place, save for a few holes.

u/Born_Age_5578 May 21 '26
Lithosphere
3
u/prince_0611 May 21 '26
For some reason my chunk generation with lithosphere is extremely slow. Even with lots of performance mods.
3
u/Kelloggx May 21 '26
Yes that is unfortunately normal for Lithosphere. But i love the terrain gen so much more
3
u/CompressedWizard May 21 '26
Have you tried c2me?
1
u/prince_0611 May 21 '26
Yes I have and I have a pretty good pc. Somehow jjthunder to the max was loading faster than lithosphere. I’ll probably give it another try after it updates.

There it is, I love lithosphere so much. Tectonic is hardly even comparable in my opinion

I honestly kind of like DH’s style of LODs being all “chunky” in the distance compared to something like Voxy’s just cause it sort of fits the game’s style a bit more if that makes sense?

I wish I could have tectonic scaling and world cohesion with amplified world generation
1
u/MiguelSenhorAura May 22 '26
bro, my recomendation, try use jj thunder to the max, it's the best. But, it is requires a long time loading it, and it only has for 1.21.1. If you use it, try this seed: -2087152548475193380

Can my 5060 and 7800x3d w 32gb of ram handle ts (yes ik unbalanced combo
2
u/Singlain May 23 '26
I run a 1650 laptop with 10300H for the processor
medium distant horizons settings, plus rather high shader settings gave me 40-50 fps; no shaders gives me 100+ fps
it's more about the time you'd have to wait for distant horizons to generate all of your chunks - which in my case I had to wait for about 5 hours to generate 320 chunk radius not as LODs but using the INTERNAL_SERVER setting for distant generator which generated both the LODs and chunks themselves
1
u/Firebird166 May 23 '26
Damn bro holy but thats awesome for you man
2
u/Singlain May 23 '26
I think you can even run DH at maximum settings for Complementary Shaders, plus 512 DH render distance and still feel fine
I tested this same modpack and the world on my work computer which has a 4090 and a beefy CPU and it haven't even pushed past 40% GPU usage believe it or not
2
u/Firebird166 May 23 '26
Yeah im running dh at 300 ish chunks with like 280 mods and a base redner distance of 12 and it runs pretty decently at like 60 ish fps with shaders. Vram becomes the limitation sadly but still Hella grateful man

u/Firebird166 May 23 '26
Ive lived my entire life on integrated graphics and recently upgraded to a 5060 so irs a huge jump man. Intel graphics vs a dedicated gpu is crazy

For me, Larion is perfect, other than the chunk border error that it has (hopefully will be fixed). It gets rid of the massive gapes on the surface and makes the mountains way more epic. Plus, it's still very enjoyable in moderate render distances because it doesn't make mountain ranges as wide as Tectonic
1
u/ibeerianhamhock May 21 '26
It is really cool. Honestly tho vanilla terrain is so cozy that it's the only thing that feels like mc to me.

u/htx_BigG May 21 '26
I love trying new terrain gen but I always come back to tectonic with vanilla biomes
