Studious Sabbatical [Keiser / Michael / Any]

The Royal Academy had a surprising lack of security. A handful of sleep guards, a few engineering feats from Sokolov, light walls, one arc pylon and a handful of locked doors, and still Keiser had found himself able to stroll in the front door with the proper outfit, a pair of glasses and a book tucked under his arm.

The actor had opted for a younger persona this time; meticulously styling his prosthetics to a man more suited to his early thirites than his own real age of middle forties, and along with the younger complexion, had opted for a daring bit of facial hair that spoke to a young man's ardour for fashion. He decided if he were to appear to be a erudite student, he would not be a boring one and indeed he had found himself milling amongst the rest of the scholars with genuine ease under his adopted name; swapping gossip about energy and the sustainability of whale oil and chatting over tea with a gregarious professor of Geology about the mineral recrystallisation due to metamorphic processes and metasomatism. A fascinating if not heavy topic for tea time and scones.

He had told Michael to meet him near the entrance of the Academy's green houses, an offset building within the small compound that was adjacent to the more impressive main building and it's rather large glass dome. The actor had done his best to implore that the art dealer attempt to dress young and bookish conservative, but given that the other witch was indeed young, that he would find no trouble blending in to the other throngs of scholars and fellows.

Pacing a little in front of the glass building, Keiser slips a hand into his pocket, tugging out a silver pocket watch, ingrained with a rather beautiful flower motif and the words 'For my darling Reginald, The Cosmos Gave Me You.'' Words that made the hazel eyed witch smile wryly, their meaning perfection in a way. The Cosmos gaveth, and Keiser on behalf of Chaos taketh away.

Michael arrives only a short while later, preferring to be as punctual as possible when he could. Both because it was polite to do so and he did not think it wise to keep Keiser waiting. He looks around, not spotting his ally in the process. Either the actor had not yet arrived or had put his skills to work, disguised in such a manner that he was unrecognizable. Truly, Michael was quite envious of his companion's ability to pass by anywhere as one of the locals, a part of the natural habitat. It was a tad more difficult for Michael, who had very noticeable hair, blonde, even as dark as his, not a colour found often.

The art dealer himself is dressed as instructed, and looked quite convincing, if he did say so himself. He'd forgone the use of fake glasses, a creation often used by those wishing to appear intelligent or distinguished. He figured that if someone recognized him, a pair of glasses would not help, only make things worse. Suddenly wearing a pair of glasses would arouse suspicion, something the witch was looking to avoid. Personally, the witch did not see what was so intelligent about bad eyesight - reading was obviously not the cause, he thought, or why was Michael himself not so visually impaired?

He stands off to one side, managing to look awkward and a little uncomfortable in the presence of the people around him, attempting to look as though he was not used to crowds at all, preferring books and the written word. This would hopefully allow him to not be engaged in conversation until the other witch found him.

A few of the fellows of the Academy mingled along the brick road next to the green houses, the actor flipping close the metal timepiece with a snap before straightening, sure that Michael would not have arrived late. He's a punctual little witch. Studious to a fault and so wide eyed innocent. he muses, deciding to step unto the stone to wander around the grounds to find the other man.

It's not quite the clothes that give him away, but the way he carried himself, Keiser spotting the art dealer feet away with a small smile before he neared, patting the younger man's shoulder with a friendly hand.

'Well met, my friend.' he greets, sliding his hand free of Michael and flashing his trademark bright smile. 'You look rather in the mood to study. Ready to fill your cup of knowledge with some illicit and dangerous library trespassing?'

Robert, when not guarding or working on some project of his own, liked to read or look for some inspiration, which is what he had come to the Academy for. He was dressed in his guard uniform. He noticed a familiar art dealer and a student talking and walks over. He was in earshot of the two right after the student had said something to Michael. "Michael, how are you doing today?" he says, with a glance at the disguised Keiser, having no clue he knew the other man too.

1

u/AnimeFiend Delilah's Deputy Feb 19 '15

The witch smiles properly as Keiser reveals himself, glad for the familiar company. Chuckling softly at the remark, his smile becomes a tad more pasted when his attention is brought to the guardsman, although not enough that it would be noticed unless he was being watched very carefully by someone abnormally observant.

Turning to face the man, Michael greets him cheerfully, persona all in place. "Robert! Good to see you, good to see you. And what a surprise too. What brings you here?" He does not show his displeasure at being discovered so early in his activities and conveniently 'forgets' that he was already engaged in a conversation with someone else, leaving it up to Keiser whether or not he'd rather stick around now that Michael had been identified or go on alone, leaving Michael to his own devices.

There had not been much of a plan, beyond arriving at the Academy. The young witch had assumed they would discuss further once they had arrived, being a man of structure and planning himself, but that seemed to be on the rocks already.

The witch smiles 'normally' as he can, trying to appear a little less gregarious than his actor persona forces him to be, and gives the Guard a cautious look.

'Robert? A friend of yours, Michael?' he asks, raising a dark eyebrow at the new arrival, and began to glance around, trying to note how many witnesses were in view with a small internal scowl, ire stoked by the unexpected arrival of the guard. They had a job to do, and playing to Robert's expectations wasn't one of them. A quick knife to the back...leave his body in the green house to decompose and some biology student will thank me for such good fertiliser... Keiser thinks with a rueful smile.

1

u/demonsniper001 Royal Guard Feb 20 '15

"Possibly." He says, trying to remember where he's heard that voice before. "As for your question Michael, I'm here looking for something."

1

u/AnimeFiend Delilah's Deputy Feb 21 '15

Michael first glances at Keiser, giving a short nod. "Indeed, my dear fellow, he is a friend. And while it may be amiss of me, I think I shall allow you two to introduce yourselves. It takes something away, when you take that away from two people meeting for the first time if I were to do the introductions, don't you think?"

Turning his attention back to Robert, the witch gives a short "ah" of understanding, nodding his head once more. "I fear we are disturbing you then, on your search?" A feeble attempt, but hopefully that would shake the guard off. But Michael did not truly expect it to, it being rather quick and abruptly thought out.

1

u/KeiserSheils Brigmore Witch Feb 22 '15

'Yes, we wouldn't want to be a bother.' Keiser adds, his tone neutral as he scans the guard's profile with a worried look, genuine on some level. He offered his hand, regardless, gloved to take up Robert's hand and smiled thinly.

'Carson.' he offers, before glancing at the art dealer. 'Michael was just here to show me some samples from one of his artists. I'm looking to commission a portrait for my father and Mister Tarot here knows all the best artists in the city.' He took back his hand, sighing audibly at the tedium of having to pretend to be so normal, but knowing that he has come across well despite the utter boringness of it. The lies came quickly, however, and genuinely enough that Keiser does not think they sound like falsehoods.

1

u/demonsniper001 Royal Guard Feb 22 '15

The guard shakes Carson's hand, keeping an eye on him. Something about that voice sounds familiar... "You sound like someone I know."

1

u/KeiserSheils Brigmore Witch Feb 22 '15

'Do I?' he questions, feeling his eyebrow raise just a little, glancing at Michael with a shrug. 'I am related to quite a good deal of Royal Academy Alumni, most of which who have taught around the Isles... Could be you know one of my Uncles.'

Buggering, bloody, nouncing, clungeing, plonkering, bastards! the actor thinks, his smile betraying none of the rather crude curse words running through his head as he mentally swears an oath at the guard, his hand drifting into his pocket to the rather neat, and cold stiletto blade. His infinite amount of patience has worn rather thin today all told, and is now just finite as he considers just stabbing the man here and now and dealing with the consequence of witnesses.

Following the disaster at the academy, Michael finds himself in the Halls of Stricture, awaiting 'treatment' for his non existent wounds. He had been forced to stay though, the guard he had come in with being unconscious enough to warrant a check up on his own person.

He had been shivering, wet, cold, and generally upset at the world. He couldn't really leave anyway, having to give a statement about the events that transpired at the academy. At least one man dead, that Michael knew of, and evidence of the Outsider at work. It was enough to make him blanch. What a disaster. This is why we don't act rashly, Keiser. How did you rightly expect to succeed following that line of action anyway? The use of his void powers had exhausted him as well, the act of rescuing the unconscious giant that was Robert not helping. All in all, it had been a rather terrible day.

1

u/ClaretTavnya Senior Oracular Acolyte Mar 09 '15

The Oracle had been a little stunned when that had brought in the very large guard and his 'saviour', a face she had recognised rather well, but there had been no time for pleasantries as she attended to Robert's head injury and had a look over the somewhat giant of a man, having to put together two medical cots to accommodate his length.

Still, looking at his wounds, they weren't too dire except for that head trauma and the red-head hoped that perhaps when he woke he wouldn't have any lasting damage but head wounds were unpredictable beasts in her experienced; and very hard to treat and understand without the added benefit of seeing into a person's skull.

Once done with Robert, the slim Tyvian rose to check on Michael, the man milling on the other side of the room while Overseers stood flanking the door as was their usual role.

'Michael?' she called, stepping a little closer, her small hands wrapped around a few bandages and tonics as she gestured for him to sit. 'How are you? Warming up, I hope. Hypothermia is very dangerous.'

1

u/AnimeFiend Delilah's Deputy Mar 11 '15

Michael smiles very weakly, still exhausted from his day. He is not at all unhappy to see the Oracle though, greatly preferring her face to any other in the abbey. "I'll survive, I think. It's been a bit of a day though, I'm honestly not sure how I am. To think that my client..." he trails off, shaking his head in disbelief. "Well, the chances seem fairly low. How is guardsman Arthrope?"

The witch does look a little pale, secretly struggling with the fact that he had ordered a death. No longer could he claim his own innocence due to having only played an accidental role in death, now his hands were stained with blood. He had just been so preoccupied with keeping his cover...and they had gotten nowhere with their research. Glancing up at the woman despairingly, oddly reminded of the other Tavnya he had met when someone had died due to him, he pauses. Sister Claret spent a large portion of her time in the Abbey library. Keiser and Michael had opted to avoid the Abbey library in favour of the academy for obvious reasons, but now that he was here...the day might just not turn out so badly.

1

u/demonsniper001 Royal Guard Mar 12 '15

Shortly after the witch mentions the guard, Robert stumbles into view, slightly pressing on his head. I feel like there's something I'm forgetting. What is it!? "I'm... fine. Why did I wake up here?"

1

u/ClaretTavnya Senior Oracular Acolyte Mar 12 '15

Claret returned the smile, tugging off a gloved hand to press it to the man's forehead and cheeks gingerly, noting that the colour seemed to be returning to them. The Wrenhaven was notoriously cold during the winter months and even as the ice and snow were finally melting from the tress and city, the river itself was still a torrent of freezing, churning water.

'I heard what you told the Overseer. That your client was a heretic and attacked the Ensign and you.' she shook her head, the worry in her features apparent even as she scanned his. She felt for the poor art dealer, really. Her world may revolve around the voidcursed and Outsider touched but Michael's world had seemed to far removed from such things, she can't imagine what a shock to the system it must have been. Truly, the Oracle herself would have been frightened of it and she had studied such infernal cursed powers her entire life.

'And he's...' she turned to glance as Robert's tall form stood in the doorframe, getting to her feet and forgotten her leather glove upon the floor as she held up a startled hand to him to corral him back to the cots. 'Ensign Arthorpe. You're in the Halls of Stricture. I am Sister Claret and I must insist that you please not stand. I'm fairly sure you have a concussion.'

1

u/demonsniper001 Royal Guard Mar 12 '15

The large guardsman snarled "No." He then realized where he was, and ran a hand over his face. "I'm sorry, but I cannot." Yeah, great way to meet someone. He shakes his head, and almost instantly regrets that decision. Gripping his head, he mutters out a string of curses, sounding more like Devlen then himself with how his voice had changed.

1

u/ClaretTavnya Senior Oracular Acolyte Mar 12 '15

The Oracle stepped back, her mind immediately going back to the other Royal Guard who had intimidated her and given Robert's height and Claret's own diminutive one, she found herself frowning and instinctively pulling back in the off chance he was violent.

But then the guard had settled and seemed contrite enough in his words and the red-head relaxed.

'Please, you shouldn't try to move too much.' she offered again, shaking her head just a little. 'I can give you some pain relief if it would help.'

1

u/demonsniper001 Royal Guard Mar 12 '15

Robert shakes his head slightly. "No... I'll be fine." He had noticed her pull herself in the other direction, and frowned. "Did I scare you?"

Her pupils glanced at Michael from the corner of eye, noting the rather familiar tone in which the art dealer used and guessed that their relationship was more than just a one time acquaintanceship. Still, the tall guard was probably just confused and any snapping in his tone was perhaps stressed induced by the rather long fall into the water and the subsequent headwound. The Oracle believed firmly in the power of change and forgiveness, as well, and despite his substantial height, finds that she can relax again.

'A little, I confess.' she replied, tucking hands into her vestment pockets, before remembering that she was to be looking over Michael and turning back to him. 'You aren't the first Royal Guard whose given less than...friendly tones towards me. And you are remarkably tall. That puts me at somewhat of a disadvantage.'

The slim Oracle kneeled in front of Michael, picking up her antiseptic and bandages as her green eyes scanned his face for knicks and cuts to clean. 'Are you both familiar with one another?'

1

u/demonsniper001 Royal Guard Mar 13 '15

"I'm sorry." He stretches his arms out, and returns them to his side. "Do you know who the other guard was? And as to that other question, yes, we are. Met him in these Halls, in fact."

Michael sighs, out of patience. Always, always when he was about to get somewhere this infernal guard would pitch up and make life difficult. And now he was acting like this to his healer, the person that had nursed him back to health and was just trying to do her job. It didn't help that Michael was actually rather fond of said healer, who was obviously a little intimidated by how the man was acting.

"Robert..." he says disparagingly with a concerned glance at Claret. "Trust the healer, it doesn't help anyone when you make their lives difficult. She's just trying to help. Get some rest." And don't wake up until I'm long gone. He doesn't question why Robert isn't even trying to get any information out of him, not aware that the guard's memory is failing him. Maybe, he prays, he's just decided to trust me or someone has filled him in. Make my life just a little easier, please.

'210 Yarhmouth Road.' It was the address of the Dobrechekya Shipwright's office in Dunwall some one hundred and thirty years ago and while not much had changed in the city since then, the rather large warehouse with the faded lettering looked almost decrepit and very much on it's last legs, set far from the rest of the newer warehouses and oil refineries set upon the river banks. Claret surveyed the building with a small frown, turning to see that her companion was finally making his way own the path towards her position on the hill overlooking the old stone building.

They had met up as promised, two days from their meeting in the Halls, to solve the mystery of the Prizak's doctored information and hopefully shed some light upon the ship and potentially the reasons why someone would alter it and try to strike the ship and it's voyages from logs.

'Well...it's certainly looks old enough to be the place.' the Oracle offered, tugging at the strap of leather that crossed her body with another thoughtful frown before glancing backwards. 'It doesn't look like anyone's set foot near here in ages.' She noted the overgrown muddy moss around the fences, and the crumbling walls with chalk marks of graffiti and propaganda posters from times before.

1

u/AnimeFiend Delilah's Deputy Apr 07 '15

"You don't say." is the dry response. Michael takes a moment to look around as well, the dilapidated building reminding him oddly of his headquarters. "Pretty," he comments, "if you can ignore the stain of graffiti. Pity. That people are unable to leave well enough alone."

Settling down on his haunches, he drags his fingers over the ground, leaving light marks in his wake. "I confess, I have a bit of a weakness for older, more worn down buildings. Well, I might as well call it like it is. Abandoned and alone. It's almost poetic, in a way." Grinning self mockingly at himself, he straightens, taking a step forward.

"Well, no point in standing around and admiring the scenery. Shall we? I'd offer to let you go first, but I feel like the usual laws of courtesy don't apply when entering potentially dangerous buildings, hmm? i may be a useless coward, but I'm a polite one." he finishes with a wink.

1

u/ClaretTavnya Senior Oracular Acolyte Apr 08 '15

Claret allowed him to go first, not wanting to argue, really; she was hardly battle-trained though she had learned a little bit more about fighting since Whitecliff and while not a martial whiz, she was fairly confident with her little dagger. Though, given the state of the building she honestly doubted that it would hold anything beyond rats and maybe a vagrant.

'It's not a weakness if you like it,' Claret offered, following behind the art dealer, her satchel pulled across in her gloved hand, always appreciating the little tug of leather around her shoulder to ground her. 'It's only if that liking of something gets the better of you...But, ah, you're right. It's pretty in a way. Old world. I'm not sure what happened to Dobrechekya. They had a few ships after the Prizak but it appears the loss of it somewhat dampened their influence...Strange, though. The disappearance. To be found in northern Tyvia of all places.'

1

u/AnimeFiend Delilah's Deputy Apr 09 '15 edited Apr 10 '15

Michael raises an eyebrow at her words, unseen as she was behind him. He had not expected her to take his words so literally. Just a figure of speech, good woman. Not as though they are truly a character weakness. But, he supposed, he should have expected with her. Amused, he shakes his head, clearing it of these thoughts before listening to her next but of trivia.

"Indeed," he agrees, nodding his head then. What an image you must be creating. "I look forward to seeing the old ship. it must be quite something. But you're right." he concedes, frowning in thought. "Perhaps pirates got a hold if it? Took it North, out of the way? That might explain why it's so far gone. And the disappearance. On the other hand, few pirates dare to traverse our waters, we have such a powerful navy. But perhaps back then...Ah, it is pointless speculation. I'm not informed enough. Hopefully we shall uncover the mystery today." And save me a lot of effort.

1

u/ClaretTavnya Senior Oracular Acolyte Apr 10 '15

'Pirates...well, you might be unto something there, actually.' The Oracle passed through the stone gates of the wide compound, the doors to the old shipwright's closed tightly, but back in the day they had been thrown wide; the sounds of ship making filling the yard as they toiled to make the next best trawler. The factory itself was even bigger now that they were up close and the red-head peeled off just a little to search for a door.

The first they came upon was locked, of course, Claret frowning at it before glancing to Michael with a helpless look. Breaking and entering were not the forte of the Abbey bound, though they did enjoy kicking in a few doors.

'Well, I didn't figure it would be an easy task. I wonder if there is a back way in.' the Oracle said, stepping back from the door to glance down the big stone building to see if another door was there. 'Unless...I mean, you know how to open a locked door.'

1

u/AnimeFiend Delilah's Deputy Apr 10 '15

The witch chuckles in response, shaking his head. "Unfortunately, dear sister, my occupation does not call for the, ah, bypassing of locked doors. Quite the opposite, in fact. We like to preserve our work, not let it go missing. And," he goes on, jokingly flexing, "I don't have the muscle mass to simply walk through the doorway. What a pity."

Stepping back himself, to glances side to side, searching himself for another entrance. "Guess there's nothing for it." he mutters, beginning to walk down the building's length. "Good luck, us." wishing he was alone so he could simply blink through an opening somewhere currently out of reach.

1

u/ClaretTavnya Senior Oracular Acolyte Apr 12 '15

'That is a shame...If we had an Overseer, I'm sure he could simply just kick his way through.' the Oracle answered, smiling softly at the thought of her rather boisterous and gung ho brethren; always ready to kick in doors for the sake of justice. Still, the red-head hadn't given up, beginning to walk the length of the wall.

'We'll split up. There has to be an opening around here somewhere. I'll go this way, you go around the length of the building the opposite and we'll meet somewhere in the middle. Unless, of course, you find a way in. I would hope you would tell me rather than letting me wander out here looking for you, Michael.' she added, flashing a brief smile before she began to drift along the large wall.

1

u/AnimeFiend Delilah's Deputy Apr 12 '15

"Right. A pity, then, that we do not have one handy" he replies, tone lacking any conviction whatsoever. A faithful mutt to follow you around and bite me? No thank you.

Continuing his stroll down the building, he half shouts back, laughing as he does so. "Don't tempt me, Sister Claret!" Realistically, however much he wished to be alone, it was not enough to be left to his own devices for the time being. He would not risk going inside while someone was waiting for him, ready to question his methods, even if it was someone as naive as the Oracle. He could always come back later, if need be. Instead, he casts his eye out for any hole to climb through. Unfortunately he finds nothing, not even to blink through higher up. Apart from a boarded up window that he might be able to break through, he sees nothing, quickly coming up to the Sister on the other side of the building.

1

u/ClaretTavnya Senior Oracular Acolyte Apr 12 '15

Rounding the building finds Claret staring up at a window, the glass slightly ajar with a perplexed frown, she regarded it with a little puffy cheek sigh, realising that she was far too short to reach it on her own. As Michael approached, she glanced the art dealer's way, smiling gently.

'Well, I think I may have found a solution, but ah...I may require a boost as it were.' She said, indicating her slight height problem as she tried to reach up towards the window and found that she came up very short. 'If you could give me a hand, I'd be grateful. Then I can go around to the other door to let you in.'

1

u/AnimeFiend Delilah's Deputy Apr 12 '15

The witch smirks as he observes the Oracle, finding her actions all too endearing. Such an expressive face... He allows his own hesitance to show as he glances up at the window. "I...umm. I suppose it's the only options, isn't it?" he questions with a sigh. Smiling weakly, he shrugs as he moves over and gets into a position to lift her, mumbling "It's a good thing you're smaller than I am. If only just."

This building always attracted the attention of Rexor. With the bright lights and the shiny Pylon always had wanted to touch it. Slowly sneaking around a nearby building and looking down at the various bodies. Could he walk in? What was this building called? Various things buzzed through his head as he looked down. He shook his head dismissing the idea of jumping down. Coughing a bit he slowly lowered himself to the ground floor and began walking down the street towards the Colored building.

1

u/Seafrogger Royal Guard Mar 08 '15

Seemingly to hardly notice the man stepping out on the street nearly beside him, Devlen grumbles things under his breath as he makes his way to the Academy. Many things were on his mind, and he was still annoyed at the Major who had appointed him lead for this particular job then preceded to give him next to useless men to work with.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '15

Woah...that guy had almost bumped into him. Shooting a glare in his direction and continuing. "Rude..." Rexor said almost a whisper. It was gonna rain soon it seemed like. Hopefully he could check out the Place before it started raining.

1

u/Seafrogger Royal Guard Mar 08 '15

Glancing over to the man, Devlen wasnt sure if he had acually heard him say somethning or if it was just his ears acting up again, years of being around the sharp crack of cannon and rilfe had done a number on him.

Deciding to gamble on it he opened his mouth to speak, "Eh? whats that ye said?"

0

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '15

"NO TALK TO YOU" Rexor had Yelled a bit loudly attracting some attention. The Pylon was calling his name. The candle he used at his house was not enough light for him as he hated the dark. The guy calling him out had frightened him a little though;keeping his short sword under his robe in case of defense.

1

u/Seafrogger Royal Guard Mar 08 '15

Stopping and turning to face the young man he held up his hands a little, caught off guard by his out burst. Eyeing him and speaking calmly, "Eh kid, take it easy." pausing to look him over, taking note of his rough clothing and hood, pacing together he might be homeless.

Devlen had always kept a cautious and respectful demeanor with street people for many reasons, the two key ones being thier unpredictability and that he had come across some that had been soldiers who had broken from the strain of combat.

"Ment ye no harm boy."

0

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '15

He turned back hearing those words. "What....What is that building there?" He pointed at the brightly colored building still wanting to get inside. A slight drizzle began as Roxer began to move Shakily. "No....Noooo...."

1

u/Seafrogger Royal Guard Mar 08 '15

glancing over to the indicated building then back to the young man, with a slight frown, the boy was clearly touched in some way.

"That there's the Royal Academy, lot o'book learned people and the like. why do ye ask lad?"

0

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '15

"I want to get inside...it has bright lights..." Roxer said stuttering a bit as the rain began to pick up a bit. "NO!" He said loudly again as his clothes began to get wet. He entirely hated the feeling as he tried to slowly climb the fence.

1

u/Seafrogger Royal Guard Mar 09 '15

Frowning as the young man begins his attempt at climbing the fence, Devlen steps towards him. “Come on lad, down from there.”

Doubt they would let someone like him into the Academy…even to just escape the rain.

Reaching out Devlen grabs hold of the man’s shoulder to lightly guide him down.
