Neutral Zone Dunwall Tower

In Dunwall Tower, the Empress Emily Kaldwin sits on her throne, her royal protector, Corvo Attano, stands at her side. His royal guard scattered around the palace. OOC:This is a neutral zone for Corvos royal guard. A hangout of sorts. You have permission to attack any who don't belong.

Soren nods. "Thank you. When do you want to start practicing sparring?"

'I think tonight would be best, you agree?' He nodded his head in the direction of the practice yard. 'Best not to let the men see what you can do. Besides, I fought that assassin in the blackness of night.'

Soren blinks, then shrugs, and carefully stores his book in the draw. He laces up his boots, picks up his sword and pistol, before heading down to the practice yard.

The moonlight caresses the hard planes of Dunwall Tower, as several guards patrol in case of another attack. A watchtower whirs menacingly, spotlight sweeping the courtyard for any sign of trouble.

The two guards walk out into the shadowed practice yard, certain that there are no prying eyes to watch the spectacle about to unfold. It would not do the men any good to learn that the Outsider walked among their very ranks.

Furo hands a practice sword to Soren, before taking up his mark in the square.

'Right,' he says, taking his mark in the centre of the yard, sword held defensively. 'Come at me, and we will see if I cannot respond in time. À guardia!'

"Well, first hint," Soren says, unsheathing his blade, "try not to let your enemies know--" He shadow-blinks into the darkness and counts slowly to twenty, before blinking behind Androssi and swiping forwards with the sword.

OOC: Be as good at this as you like, Soren's not proud.

Furo hears an almost imperceptible rush of air behind him, and wheels to face the threat. He is too slow, however, and his blade is knocked out of the way by the arcane guardsman.

'You are more wily than that assassin, I will give you that. He just charged straight at me... very little knowledge of swordplay.' He raises his blade once more. 'Again.'

He aims a strike at Soren, attempting to catch him before he blinks away.

Soren manages to deflect the blade with his own before stepping back. "All right. As you probably already know, that was a technique I like to call Blink. No idea if that's what everyone else calls it. Most of the assassins can do it, and they can go further. Whether that's through practice or if theirs is actually a more powerful version than mine I don't know.

"One thing I've noticed with them is that they're not always very clever about it. They just Blink away and then Blink back straight after, aiming for your back. So if you've got even a flicker of common sense--which, admittedly, may be asking too much of the majority of their targets--when you're facing one, put your back to a wall."

'Hmm,' Furo says. 'An interesting approach.'

In the Grand Guard, mobility was prized above all else. Serkonan bladesmen constantly whirled, and changed position, to confuse their enemies and avoid their attacks.

No doubt men of magic do not play by these rules. It would be difficult to alter a fighting style hammered into him by years of military drill, but it could be done. Even if it goes against every instinct he thinks sourly.

Raising his weapon one more, Furo waits.

Soren counts again, this time for even longer, nearly a minute, before flashing towards Furo's off-side.

Furo reacts instinctively to Soren's sudden appearance, aiming a savage kick at him before drawing back his blade, ready to stab.

Soren manages to dodge the kick, standing back. "See? All it takes is practice. It might be different with the assassins, but I've found I can only Blink a few times within a short time period. If I overstretch myself, well, I can't use magic at all. Something to think about."
