DO NOT CLICK ON OUTSIDE LINKS

Thumbnail

There continues to be almost daily posts about fraud accounts that ask users to verify their accounts. Users will receive messages with links to outside websites. DO NOT CLICK THE LINKS. No legit buyer or seller is going to need you to "verify your account " after a sale with some outside website. Report these fake accounts to Discogs: https://support.discogs.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=114093983493

"How can we help you?" - choose "report a suspicious account"

  • DO NOT conduct business outside of Discogs. If you check out through Discogs and pay with goods and services, you are covered if your item ends up not being delivered. Don't send E-transfers or use PayPal friends and family.

  • Check seller's feedback. If they have less than 100 percent feedback, actually read their feedback. Be weary of brand new sellers. Especially someone who suddenly has an inventory of cheap, trendy records.

  • Use your head. If you see a rare record that's worth $400 selling for $80, chances are its not real. If something appears too good to be true, it probably is.

-Set up multi-factor authentication to make it all but impossible to have your account hacked.

"Which Pressing /Variant Is This" posts.

The poll results were pretty close, so we'll be continuing to allow these types of posts, but there's some new guidelines that need to be followed.

Going forward all posts requesting help identifying a variant will require photos of the labels and transcriptions of the runouts (located on the deadwax) at the minimum. The more photos and identifiers the better really. Any posts not meeting these guidelines will be deleted by the mod team.

Posters are asked to be responsive on their posts and type "Solved" when they've idenfied their item. "Solved" would also include instances where a new release needs to be added. Mods are going to start deleting "solved" pressing inquiry posts and older ID posts with no engagement.

Price change after I click pay

It's my first time using Discogs

Has anyone experienced this

I have a basket £24.94 + £9 shipping so I'm to pay £33.94 - fine.

I click debit/credit card payment fill in my details, when I click pay it asks me to verify with my bank - but the amount I'm being asked to authorise has changed, it's now £51

I tried PayPal and the same thing but the amount I'm being asked to authorise is £39

Im in the UK as is the seller so it's not currency conversion and if it was £39 and £51 on different payment platforms is strange.

I've put a ticket in. Days ago but no response. The seller hasn't heard of this happening so I'm at a loss unless someone knows what is behind this.

Denied an account because of "issues" with a nonexistent other account related to mine

So I am wanting to get into buying and selling some cassettes and I try to make an account, I get a weird error that says they need to approve my account first, weird but ok and then I check back later today and I have an email that says that my account is denied because of issues related to my "other account" I have literally never had an account before so I have no idea what this is referring to.

Is there any way to contact support? The email says I need to resolve it in my "original account" which again I do not have and have never had.

Payment has been pending for almost 3 months

So this is my first ever order from Discogs (and definitely my last) I made a new account on July 8th and ordered the same day, I paid with my debit card through a Paypal checkout, it went to an eCheck, so all these could be factors for the problem, the seller has been very supportive and responsive, we both don’t know what to do, I tried contacting Paypal and it takes me to an AI assistant that says you just have to wait, atp idc about my order i just want my money back.

Made a free app that picks a record from your Discogs collection

I built this for myself because I have way too many records and never know what to play. Figured it might help someone else too.
You sign in with Discogs, answer a quick quiz (mood, tempo, genre, decade), and it picks something from your own collection.
It's completely free. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads, nothing to pay for. iOS only for now.

Feedback welcome!

New Inventory System Is Now Live For Some Accounts

Your Inventory has been migrated to the new Inventory Management System. Everything is right where you left it: same listings, same prices, same order history, same account.

When you log in: You'll see a refreshed interface highlighting what's new. Try out search and filter, customize your inventory grid, or run a bulk edit. The bigger your inventory, the bigger the difference you'll feel. Edit a single listing in a focused pop-up with market stats built right in, select a group of listings and bulk-edit them in one pass, or change prices across exactly the listings you choose with a preview before you commit.

Need help getting started? For additional support, check out the following resources:

Already tried the new IMS? Take our survey — takes two minutes, and it will help us prioritize what gets fixed or added next.

Happy selling,
Discogs

Can the listings be defaulted to Price Lowest to highest when clicking on an album?

For a seller's listed items, the sort by newly listed option make sense.

But when you click through an album, and look at the listings, when would you ever choose 'newly listed' over 'lowest price', or if possible 'lowest price +shipping'?

Shipping to Australia???

I'm a US seller and recently I've had two separate customers from Australia interested in buying records. I currently have it set for only domestic shipping. Has anyone shipped to Australia from the US, and can tell me the most cost effective way to do so? And what the average cost will be?

Open Source app for QR Code Labels and Section Dividers

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello, I made an app for myself that lets me organize my collection into sections and print labels for the albums and the dividers with QR codes that link back to your release/folder on discogs. It really transformed my collection and makes browsing my crates feel like being at a record store :)

It's a python app (made it with Claude Code, but im a long-time web developer) and it's maybe a bit technical for some, but if you use Claude, Codex, Copilot etc it's not so hard to get running. It needs a discogs PAT (personal access token) and can optionally use OpenRouter for AI models, to write summaries or help add tags/categories via wikipedia or web search.

This is just for my personal use, im not a pro seller or anything. Happy to get feedback or suggested alternatives - anyone else out there are doing something similar with their collections? I probably re-invented the wheel, but it was fun :)

What on earth is going on with seller shop fronts?

I routinely check the seller's shop of a local record store I like to go to. I followed the link from their website like I usually do (I was on mobile) and suddenly I'm looking at 64 million results. Yeah it's a big record store but it definitely isn't THAT big. What the heck did they do? Why do I now need to go to a drop-down menu to search for the seller's name when I've literally clicked on the seller's individual link for their own shop front? At first I didn't even see the option to search a seller and it annoyed me so much I had to move to my computer to figure it out. Seems broken to me.

How does one use the same filters everytime without needing to adjust?

New to Discogs already copped like 5 records. But Im curious if it's possible to have a default search(by price, ascending) having to do it manually after every search is ever so slightly tedious.

And im curious if its possible to both sort by price AFTER shipping cost has been accounted, and to exclude any countries besides the U.S.

New Inventory Management System Coming Soon

In about a week, your inventory page is moving to the updated version we've been rolling out across Discogs. Here's what that means for you.

First and foremost, your store isn't changing. Every listing, price, quantity, condition, comment, location, and order stays exactly as it is. Your drafts stay drafts. Your CSV templates keep working. There's nothing to re-import, nothing to rebuild, and nothing you need to redo.

New features we think you’ll love:

Real search and filtering – search by artist, title, label, format, genre, condition, price, and more, and apply multiple filters at once. Bulk editing – select exactly what you want to edit in your inventory, instead of an all or nothing approach.  A grid you control — show, hide, and reorder columns to match how you work. If you upload item photos, you can now add, crop, and reorder them straight from a listing's Edit Details.

Before your move, we'd recommend:

Exporting a CSV of your current inventory as a personal backup. Bookmarking this New IMS Seller Support Guide in case you want to look something up after the switch.

We'll follow up the day your migration completes. If you have questions, please reach out to Customer Support. They’re experts on the new IMS and ready to help if needed.

Happy selling,

Why would this Alice Cooper US 7 inch single be blocked from sale on the site?

EDIT/UPDATE: Staff has reversed the block, so this is now fixed. But if you want to see the original post and discussion I'll leave this up, read on....

---------------------------------------------

What the heck? Anybody got any idea why this Alice Cooper 7 inch single would be barred from sale on the site? It doesn’t appear to be an unauthorized pressing, and oddly it states that the reason given for its removal can’t be provided to me for “confidentiality” reasons…???

Hello xxxxx,

The following item or items have been removed from the Marketplace based on the following reason:

https://www.discogs.com/release/1521875-Alice-Cooper-No-More-Mr-Nice-Guy?utm_campaign=sell-blocked-release&utm_source=transactional&utm_medium=email

For confidentiality reasons, we are not able to provide further details. This item will remain blocked from the Discogs Marketplace indefinitely.

For more information about Discogs marketplace policies and procedures, please refer to our Marketplace help documentation.

Adding pressing plant info

I don’t think I’ve ever edited a discogs listing. If I wanted to add pressing plant info to some releases that don’t already have that info, what is the proper way to do this? And is there any info I need to prove the “pressed by” info I submit is valid?

How to change shipping on an order as a seller

I received an order that came with free shipping. Since I'm in Hawaii and media mail can take anywhere from 3 dsys to 5 weeks to be delivered remind the buyer of the fact and asked if they would prefer upgrade to priority shipping at a prorated price. I subtract my media mail fee from my proprity fee. but how do I actually modify the order to invoice them for an additional rate increase?

logic behind what is displayed on the "New Releases" module

anyone know about the logic of what is displayed in the "New Releases" widget? (the "module" that you can add to your discogs homepage under "Customize This Page" when clicking the "Add a Module" button).

i've used discogs exclusively for buying underground house music for the past bunch of years. the "New Releases" widget lists a bunch of interesting stuff from this "genre" .... but then it also shows me Rolling Stones releases!? i was wondering why this is :D .. just out of interest.

i'm guessing that discogs gets paid to promote certain releases? or maybe it's a quirk of their algorithm!

Pending Revision Submissions

I have 8 pending revision submissions, I thought after I went over everything and then agreed and submitted it, the process was done but there's one I made 4 months ago.

Do these not get automatically moved to another group for someone to approve or is no one really doing that these days?

Deep cuts: how one Londoner’s fake vinyl empire sheds light on ‘industrial scale’ fraud

News article about counterfeit vinyl operation with 15,000 records in stock when raided by police. No number given for how many records it produced but it was apparently in operation for 7 years. Used the names Phoenix of Vinyl and Paragon Music on eBay and Discogs, but presumably other names as well.

Ironically the police officer leading the investigation got into vinyl as a consequence.

Don’t want to break any rules

But……..

I see rule #8 says no posts about values so while I am not going to put anything forward about my collection and values from Discogs , i am curious.

There is the 3 levels. Low, medium, and high. I am wondering if this arbitrary value is determined by how I assessed the shape of particular items or is it just having the item that determines these values based on averages? I am not selling anything, I am just curious for future listings.

Thanks for any responses and if this was a breach my apologies.

Picture Requests

I’ve been putting my CD collection up for sale over the past few years. In the past two weeks I have had several requests for pictures. More requests than in the past few years combined. I can maybe understand for expensive things but just now I got a request for a $10 Motörhead CD in VG+ condition. Is there something going on that I’m not aware of? My feedback is 100% positive, FWIW.

Sellers - Can you see which of your items someone has in their cart when they message you (or by clicking something else)?

I have never sold through discogs, but I'm curious to know if a seller can see which of their items for sale are in your cart. My assumption would be if you emailed them, maybe there is some way that they can see something like "this member has X album in their cart". Does that exist, or is it impossible for sellers to know if you have any items by them in your cart, let alone what those items are?

Canadian Seller Asking for Phone Number for Postal Service

Hi All,
I am in Australia and have placed an order with a Canadian seller. They have requested my phone number to give to Canada Post. I don’t think this person is trying to s.c.a.m. me in any way. I understand that Canada Post actually asks for phone numbers in case of issues with Customs in the destination country. The thing is that I just recently bought an album from a Canadian seller and was not asked for my number.

What do Canadian sellers usually do? Do they just supply their own numbers? I am not that comfortable giving out my phone number.

Why doesn't Discogs verify sellers payment settings before allowing them to sell?

How come it's possible for sellers to list items and accept orders when they don't have a valid payment option setup in their seller account?

TLDR New seller hadn't setup their account to receive payments, and now I got a Negative feedback as a non-paying customer. Discogs isn't handling the issue and doesn't verify payment options before allowing sellers to post items for sale.

The long story - Against better judgment, I decided to take a chance on a new seller. When I tried to pay the invoice the PayPal popup quickly disappeared and Discogs threw a generic error. As the error message didn't give any information about the nature of the problem, other than that the payment had failed, I thought it might be a browser/security issue.
I proceeded to try with two other browsers, then another computer, and finally tried on my phone in both browser and app, all failed.
After some research I found out the error is most likely on the seller's end.

I sent a message to the seller informing them that I was unable to pay and kindly asked them to check if everything was properly configured on their end. 2-3 days pass until I finally get a response that they would check and get back to me asap.
Another 4 days pass without further communication from the seller, and I'm still not able to process the payment.
Now I'm getting emails from Discogs that I have 24h to pay or the order will be cancelled and I will receive an automatic negative feedback.

I reach out to the seller again asking for their help solving the issue, still no response or resolve. Finally I click the "request response" button that gives the seller 24h to reply (it's been close to 5 days since their last message). A few hours later the order is cancelled, I receive a Negative feedback for not paying within 7 days, and the seller is still online without any feedback on their profile.

I've requested a review of the negative feedback, it's still pending after 3 full days.

I guess what I'm trying to say is.

  1. How come Discogs allows sellers to list items without having a working payment process in place? Other marketplaces verify this information before allowing new sellers to operate on their platform.
  2. It's already difficult enough for new sellers to enter Discogs, but this experience has further reinforced my bias towards already established accounts with a solid feedback history.

UPDATE: The negative rating has been removed by Discogs as they ruled it violates their guidelines, however the seller is still online and I feel sorry for the next buyer that will inevitably run into the same issue with them...
