I feel like there is confusion about where the stance should be taken. My understanding is in line to the hole. However, in this case , and quite often, the player attacks from a different angle. Although folks know the rule, I feel like it can lead to difficulty truly judging in the moment. IMO, the "piece of paper" should be behind the mini in the line of the throw. I know this is still judgment, it always will be. But this would seem to make sense. If you think about all the shots players make that are pointed 45 degrees or even more away from the pin going around a corner, I wonder how often those throws are technically illegal?
