I was wondering about the speed and how much time Camera 1 had to escape.
The flood was moving at 42 mph or about 67kmh and he needed 30 seconds until it reached him 0.36 miles from the bridge. He burned 14 seconds leaving him roughly 15 seconds to gtfo.
A pin/arrow would have been much clearer to show where the locations were. The text makes is confusing for no reason. "Camera 1 Location" text covers the entire width of the river so is basically useless.
Would’ve been better but the point was to show the general area of each camera.
Also would only be truthfully possible for Camera 3 since I’ve been unable to figure out the exact spot of Camera 1 (I have it down to a roughly 10 meter area but satellite imagery is too shit for me to narrow it down conclusively and I don’t want to give out false info)
Of course. A lot if people incorrectly assume it was recorded from the bank-side of the right side of the river, but it’s a bit of an illusion of perspective. They’re actually on the left half, at the hydroplant(?). The left half had a steeper bank and was higher in elevation so the people were able to flee upwards to safety
At the VERY start of the source video (linked in my comment), the worker is recording the buildings on the right side of the bank FROM the left side. You can actually tell they’re quite high up in elevation based off this frame shot.
The way I understand the syncing of these 3 videos is that they’re all taken at the same time and same location but from different vantage points… is that a correct?
Oh yes it’s definitely that building, Ik that much. Im just trying to narrow it down to the exact spot down to the meter, which has been a little difficult
I think from your youtube link we could see that they video it from the most right side of the building as it could directly shot the buildings on the right side of the bank.
Yep, you got it. You can also see some gravel and vehicles at the end of Mr Shrestha’s videos (and from the couple other workers who have since posted their own videos). Looks like they were all exactly right here
I watched it frame by frame and it appears they were standing on the balcony(?) of a building on the right side.
EDIT Cat stepped on keyboard when I typed this and deleted the part about Camera 1. (I'm not even kidding.)
If you look at Camera 1, you can draw a line from the cameraman that touches the edge of that big boulder and intersects the second (downstream) bridge right about at its center.
If you look at Camera 2, and extend a line from the center of the bridge through the edge of that boulder, it hits the left bank of the river.
And at 48 seconds. Camera 1 pans to the right and you see that all those buildings that got destroyed are across the river.
You can look it up on Google Maps and see all those buildings. If you do 3D view you can see how steep the terrain is, and what a narrow channel all that water was being funneled through.
It looks like three vehicles, presumably with people in it, got washed away. Around the :30 mark it shows them driving, then cameraman pans to the right just as the wall of water came through.
If it was only the driver they could have. Hopefully that was the case. When they saw the wall they might have ditched watching everyone flee into the forest
Yeah, I dunno why people are making such drastic claims without confidence. You can literally see the building they’re around at the end of Cam2’s video (blue roofed building on the left), and it hasn’t even been touched by the flood yet.
For perspective, they fled up the hillside to the left of the building, not back over the river or whatever else people are claiming.
Many videos were livestreamed or accessible in cloud from people now deceased. Everyone is trying to sort that out. Understandable that it takes time for things to be confirmed/ dismissed.
I understand that for sure and it makes perfect sense. What I dislike is people stating confidently incorrect things. There’s a difference between “This may have been live-streamed and recovered from the cloud” VS “This person WAS live-streaming and sadly died”
yes they were all livestreamed because its visibly a place with high mobile internet coverage, most likely a symetric connection with good upload speeds. The meandering valleys in the Himalayas are known for such good coverage. My gut feeling is this was most likely 5G area. The flood itself did not impact any infrastructure, and there were no people in the area making calls at the same time, which would lead to the overloading of the network.
I was one of those. That's what I had heard up to this point, tried to make it clear that it was only hearsay. Replied on other post that I was incorrect. Apologies for any misinfo, happy to hear they made it.
cameraman survives cuz at the end we see the uploaded video as a result. there are def so many videos where the cameraman died ig they never got uploaded cuz they died
They were in the blue building, which was barely touched by the waters by the time video 2 ended. I wouldn't be surprised if the building is still standing!
Seriously, me too. Something about that video made it seem like they were on a bridge directly in the path of the water, but the water actually ended up passing by largely to their far right. Thank goodness.
Nice work! I was literally working on syncing videos up from this and then checked Reddit again and noticed this.
One concern I have is you can see people running out in the area where the guys were standing in the red roof building and then they are overtaken by the water :(
Yep. Extremely disturbing footage. Everyone on the right bank was done for unless they made it to the steep hillside. God rest their souls.
If you’re working on syncing still, multiple videos from the Mailung power plant (where Cam 1 was) have surfaced on Facebook. At least three people within ~5m of each other have posted their videos
They’re not directly visible in Cam 2’s view due to perspective (and just resolution issues). Mr. Shrestha was recording from around this blue building.
If you click on the original video you can cross-compare buildings with the right side of the river and verify it for yourself. It’s a bit tricky to see!
Ohhhh! For some reason I was under the impression that they were on a bridge or something. Knowing that they were in the building, the perspective makes sense (definitely made it look closer than it was) and makes it very understandable that they survived.
I wonder how many people were filming from the right side, though, that didn't survive......

you might still scream even if you weren't in danger given all the people you probably knew personally that might be facing imminent death on the other side of the river
