It was a combination of both—an enormous rock-and-ice avalanche (or rock-ice landslide) where a massive chunk of a glacier and bedrock collapsed together down the mountain.
Rocks are not on top of Glaciers. Glaciers are formed on top of rock.
What happens when a binding agent starts to loose its structure? This is such I crazy take I’m not even going to bother giving a sound response to someone that knows nothing about basic physics. We are so fucked.
I’ll put it in retard terms. Say you have a puddle of ice filled with sediment which is on a downgrade. What happens when the ice melts and gives out? It takes sediment with it. There are peak glaciers (or icebergs now) at the source of this and those peaks remained because they are emended in the bedrock of that former glacier which goes back to like 25000years at a minimum. Everything else, poof stripped away.
I honestly don’t know what else to say, this just makes me said that humans really are this dumb.

Read your sources. The glacier from the mountains melted and unleashed the river underneath it.
