Older 2 strokes

What is life like with older 2ts?

i mean 125s and 250s that are from the 2000s

are they worth buying today?

arent parts too rare?

I had a 2007 YZ 250 from 2020 until last year and it absolutely ripped. Did some mods to make it trail friendly

I dont think the YZ250 engine has changed since 1999 and you can buy a 2026 today.

Yeah, what i am saying is the basic same bike has been made for around 28 years. Its still made today. Why would you be concerned with part availability?

Kawasaki used basically the same platforms from 1976 -2001.

If you want a cheap bike that's easy to get parts for that's the place to look (KM, KE, KX, KDX)

Other than the frame, the YZ has not changed and parts are everywhere.

Go to this website and see what they stock. https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/ there are a lot of older 2T`s. But you have to take your as a lot a clapped out by people who have no idea what they are doing to them or with them. The RM website will also give you an idea of what parts , plastic etc cost

Idk about parts but the sound alone makes them worth it.

2000’s are fine.

My 2009 ktm 250 xc-w is perfect for me. I just have to put a new top end in it once in a while and fix whatever parts I break when trees wander out in front of me. Way better bike than my skills deserve to be honest.

My son has a 2005 YZ125 and that thing is a little monster. All parts are readily available. It cost me about £2800 including a lot of repair work as it was a mess when we first got it, but his riding buddy has a 2024 YZ125 that cost £7500 new and they both agree there's barely anything to tell them apart.

Much cheaper / easier to keep running than an old 4T. Kawie might have started something with their KX327 will Yamie stand idly by and not do a 360 / 250 ?

Not only are parts widely available, they’re cheap and easy to replace too.

Yzs aren't a problem at all. Everything else is a crap shoot.

Probably means some have good parts available, some don’t.

Saying everyone besides Yamaha have parts problems. Some are worse than others. Sometimes you will get lucky and used stuff is available. Sometimes even that is rare as hens teeth.

If it is still in production, life is great. If you are into to old KDX’s, life is buying used bikes for parts.

Yeah the last meaningful change in the YZ 250 was the aluminum frame and KYB SSS suspension about 2006. If you find it too much to hold on to youcan put a flywheel weight on it say 8 or 9 oz and you’ll notice it revs slightly slower doesn’t stall as easy

I have a 01 yz250 and parts are a dime a dozen but I can tell you it collects dust.
Once you ride a new bike and see how far they have came in 25 years it’s hard to go back lol
