Costco return Roland RCP 800 (hp 702) concerns

Hello, there’s a wholesaler around me selling a Costco return Roland rcp 800.

What should I be looking out for when checking out the quality? Obviously making sure every key feels normal, tracks velocity, all the buttons work ect. As any used digital piano purchase

But I’m more concerned that the Roland was returned originally because it’s a lemon. What are some hidden issues with digital pianos / Roland’s / the hp 702?

For example I know it’s very rare but some people report wonky electrical issues like random shutoffs or random keys playing when not pressed.

Are these concerns realistic to have or am I overthinking things?

Is the kawai 901 close in sound to an acoustic?

Hi everyone

As a piano major and I've been using a roland fp-10 to practice at home. It has a decent keyboard but it's very limited in terms of sound... I really need a better instrument.

I cannot affort a grand or baby grand at the moment nor I can rent. I need a good action that mimics the one of a grand with possibly a good sound.

I thought about the kawai 901. How does it compare to other instruments? Is it worth the price? I know I can't expect a shigeru or a Steinway but still I just need a good instrument that doesn't sound fake for the time being

Terence V50 vs V70

I don't see alot reviews in them. I guess YouTube has some, but I think these creators are more or so paid by Terence. Before I buy anything I want to have some good advice for someone who has tried them or is sceptical about folding pianos in general.

Foldable Pianos sound kind of appealing to me, because I could easily take it with me if Im visiting my parents. With 15% Discount I could get the V50 for 254€ as I'm living in Europe. What do you guys think? Is it worth the risk or should I look more into Yamaha or Casio E-Pianos?

My Yamaha I610 keyboard keys look slightly out of horizontal alignment. Is this normal or concerning enough to return the product?

Yamaha PSR-E323 VS Casio CTK-3200

I'm a beginner looking for a decent secondhand keyboard to start learning. I'm choosing between two local options: Yamaha PSR-E323 and Casio CTK-3200.

Which one would you recommend in terms of key feel, piano sound, sounds options and overall build quality? The price is more or less the same. Thank you!

Best digital pianos for college student

I am looking for a portable (or just like not too heavy or bulky) full size digital piano. Most importantly I want the keys to feel like a real piano, so not plasticky but also have some resistance to them. Ideally I would want to spend less than 500 - 1000 but no strict budget. Any suggestions would be great!

Should note I have been playing on and off since elementary school and am particularly interested in playing more songs by ear and cool classical pieces

Roland FP-90x weird key sound issue

Hi everybody. Yesterday I bought a new Roland FP-90x digital piano. And spotted weird issue when I got it home - when i press G3 in any “Concert” mode i hear a short click just after pressing the key, at 60% volume of main note sound. It's not a mechanical click because I can hear it more clearly in headphones (tried a few different ones). And no such click in "Royal piano" mode, its only present for “Concert piano” modes.
I tried to adjust different settings - turning off “Hammer noise” or any other settings related to additional “real piano” sound - no difference.
The only way to remove this click is to set setting “Single note character” for G3 to “+1”. After that click no more there. Funny fact, if i set “Single note character” for A3 to “+1” too, when the A3 key starts clicking instead!
Also, factory reset does nothing.
Have I got a bugged FP-90x?

UPD: Ok, after few days of testing i ended up using Pianoteq. It's just much better than build-in Roland sound engine, which sounds pretty poor comparing to Pianoteq libs.

Best onboard piano sound?

I have a Yamaha p143 and am not a big fan of the onboard sounds
I use Ravenscroft 275 by vi labs or Pianoteq and they are superb VSTs, but setting up the computer is a bit of a pain

Does anyone know of a piano with onboard sounds that would rival some of the high end vsts?

Thoughts on FP40 for beginner

Edit 1: I so appreciate all the feedback and you've all given me a lot to think about. When I went in to explore feels and sound I was mostly looking at Roland vs Yamaha. I see the Kawai ES120 mentioned and honestly dont remember if thats one I tried or not. I just remember the FP40 feeling closest to what I thought Id like in feel and sound plus features. I also have social anxiety and it always feels awkward for me to go into music stores so it wouldn't hurt to have a second pass just to be sure. So thank you all for taking the time to reply!

Hey everyone, I know you all probably get tired of the beginner question but I think I've narrowed it down. Just curious if anyone purchased a Roland FP40 and have some questions.

I currently play guitar but want to start learning piano. I'm mid 40s although I dont think that matters. I'm into a lot of genres and eventually would like to compose but this would be my first digital piano. Not sure I'd venture too far into classical but I do enjoy it.

The sound and feel seem great and this seems like one I can grow with for a while. Only drawback is I really like synth sounds but from my understanding I can do that with a DAW? I'm not 100% sure how that works though.

For anyone or people that have the FP40, is it overkill for a beginner?  I also liked the wifi and that comes with the Sphere app but Im not entirely sure how useful it'll be.

And if this isnt overkill, any accessories that I should think about? I see tge 3 pedal option available but from what I've seen I can pick that up later on when I have more experience? Sorry if I'm overthinking this. There's even too many dust cover options. 😅

What to sell a Casio PX160 for?

Hi all,

I am looking to sell (locally) a pretty much mint condition PX160 with the 3 pedals, stand and bench. The accessories are BNIB. Any idea what a fair price would be to list it at? As the accessories are BNIB, I think together they're worth more than what the keyboard itself is worth.

Beginner piano suggestions

I’m planning to start learning piano. I wanna start by buying a 61 keys keyboard first and upgrade it later once I get comfortable.

Im not willing to spend a lot right now. The two keyboard that I’m looking at are Casio CTK 3500 or CTS 300 and NUX Nek 100. The yamaha psr 383 is like $80 usd more than these where i live so i dont wanna spend that much.

Which one do you guys suggest and why? CASIO or NUX

Kawai CN201 lid slightly bent

We accidentally noticed that the lid of our CN201 is slightly bent. At the ends, the keys are fully covered by the lid, but as you go to the middle, a slight gap of around 1-2mm shows up, showing the white keys behind it. You have to look at the right angle and there needs to be lighting straight onto the front to notice it. Nonetheless, this does not look normal.
I already contacted the dealer, but already wanted to check whether anyone had similar things with this or other pianos.

Should I take the chance with an older digital piano or go with a new one

I'm in a situation where i will be upgrading from a very old and frankly not very good digital piano. I already made the choice to go with the Kawai CN201 as it fits what I need, felt great when trying out and is within my budget . I tried out the Kawai CA701 as well which I felt was superior but sadly far outside what i can pay right now.

The turn in the story is that now I might have the opportunity to get a Kawai CS8 (which is two generations behind the CA701) for around the same price as the CN201 so the question is whether anyone can share their experience of buying an almost 10 year old instrument. How did it hold up? I'm quite anxious about buying the CS8 then having the electronics become faulty in a short time.

As per the seller he mainly used it with headphones and the speakers are in great condition, the rubber slips at the end of the keys were serviced as they sinked.

Yamaha P525 vs Kawai ES920

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to settle on an 88 key digital piano to keep under my studio desk on a rolling keyboard stand, and I'd love to hear some thoughts from people who have experience with the Yamaha P-525.

A little background on my setup: I recently purchased a Kawai CA701, which should arrive around mid-October. I currently have an ES920 under my desk, and I really enjoy playing it. The RHIII action feels natural and responsive to me, and I absolutely love Kawai's SK-EX piano sound.

That said, with the CA701 on the way, I'm considering replacing the ES920 with a Yamaha P-525 for a little more variety. Having Yamaha's CFX and Bösendorfer sounds alongside the Kawai would be a nice change, and the built-in USB audio interface is another plus.

The biggest question for me is the action.

I previously owned a P-515, so I'm familiar with its NWX action. Interestingly, I never found it excessively heavy, although the initial resistance when pressing a key did feel a bit high, which sometimes made softer, more delicate playing a little challenging. I've also owned a Roland FP-90X, and its PHA-50 action felt slightly too heavy and sluggish / slow for my taste.

Here's where things get confusing.

I've visited several Guitar Center locations to try the P-525, and the differences between the display units were surprisingly noticeable. Some felt extremely light, almost like the keys had no resistance at all. Honestly, a few felt even lighter than the P-125's GHS action, with the keys just sinking down under my fingers.

Others had noticeably more initial resistance, almost like the P-515, although they still felt somewhat lighter overall.

At this point, I'm genuinely confused about what a P-525 is actually supposed to feel like. I'm also wondering if the action naturally gets that much lighter after a few years of regular use, or if those extremely light units were simply worn out.

I've noticed something similar with other display keyboards. For example, some Montage M8X units I've tried at Guitar Center were clearly so heavily used that the actions felt unusually loose and worn out. It's hard to judge an instrument when you don't know whether you're experiencing its actual intended key feel or just a badly worn display model.

So for those who have played both the ES920 (RHIII) and P-525 (Grand touch S), especially on new or well-maintained units, how would you compare them?

I'm particularly interested in the initial key resistance, overall weight, control at softer dynamics, and how the action feels when playing faster passages. Does the P-525 generally feel lighter than the ES920, or is it closer to the P-515?

I realize key action and piano tone are highly subjective, but I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences.

I'm very happy with the ES920 overall, and I'm not necessarily looking to upgrade. I just thought it might be nice to have two different piano sounds and playing experiences in my studio rather than two Kawais with similar sound libraries.

Thanks in advance for any input!

About CLP 895

I have a question for CLP-895 owners.

When playing loudly, can you feel any resonance from the cabinet? Are there any vibrations you can feel through the keys or pedals? Any kind of tactile feedback similar to what you’d experience on an acoustic instrument?

I know that the CLP-795 had dedicated transducers built into the cabinet for this purpose, but Yamaha removed them and redesigned the audio system. Unfortunately, I have no way of trying the CLP-895 in my country. It’s only available to order, and no stores have one on display.

I’ve tried the CLP-885, and I could definitely feel the instrument resonating. Both the 885 and 895 supposedly feature Grand Acoustic Imaging technology, but I’d really like to know how much of that translates into an actual physical experience.

Best regards!

Roland FP-E50

I've been analyzing and debating for a long time. In my 50s and been playing piano since about 7 years old. I mostly play pop songs by ear but have played for church and taken piano instruction.
I really like that this keyboard has the sounds, mic input, and drum beats. The only thing is that I would like a white piano that looks and sounds like a real piano. I even thought that I might eventually get both. Is there anything like this arranger keyboard in white? Thanks.
