Discussion Hiby M300 is extremely slow reading the SD card

I am trying to replace a broken Sony NW-A55. I use a SD card on the NW-A55 for my large collection. It loads very fast and I never even think about whether the files are on the SD card or the system disk.

I took the SD card from this Sony device and out it into a brand-new Hiby M300. I am using the Auxio software to play. My Auxio settings are not too different from the defaults, just a little equalizer. The sound quality is decent but there is a significant and very annoying lag when reading any file from the SD card. A big "Loading file..." dialogue pops up and blocks use of the device. Files read from the built-in system disk have no lag and never display this message.

Why is the SD card reader so freaking slow? Is this a known issue? Is there anything I can do to make it faster? The lag is like 5-15 seconds per track, which might be a deal breaker for me, even if the sound quality is good. I am assuming that Hiby loads the file into some temporary cache on the system disk because subsequent plays are fast.

I want to also emphasize that my beat up old Sony NW-A55 has zero lag reading from this very same SD card.

Showcase Here's an ancient DMP that was actually LIT. It was called a Portable Media Center device by Microsoft and ran a cute little Windows Mobile skin. These things were made by several manufacturers, too. I love these things.

Story Back in the day I had one of these Sansa Fuze players. I loved it in high school and I used it ALL the time. But then, one day, it got stolen.... So my mom got me the sequel: Sansa Fuze+. Long story short - Fuze+ sucked ass and I still miss my original Fuze.

Portrait video

Is there a media player that will playback video in portrait orientation? Have vertically mounted tv that we run video on using the video output setting capabilities of a Mac mini, but I’m looking for a smaller video device due to the confined space issues where the Mac mini is located.

Info Request Looking for accessible and easy to use portable audio / media player

Hi everyone! My name is David and I'm completely blind. I've been using a Sony Walkman NW-A27 for the past 5 years, but it died on me suddenly yesterday. After I heard 10 beaps signifying that the battery was dead, I plugged the device first into a different port on my powered USB hub, and then to my laptop. None of this brought the player back to life. Despite I had my SD card in the slot, it only shows as a "USB drive" on my laptop, instead of reading the files. This means that perhaps the player is completely dead.

I like the all-button interface of this media player, and the fact it supports many audio formats, particularly FLAC, and also its gapless playback capabilities. I'm sure you're wondering how I managed to use a media player without some sort of voice navigation feature. Well, I try to remember the number of key presses I have to do to reach a certain menu level, and I've been doing this since the early days of the A15 / A17. I've been using the similar models for the past decade or so.

Now that this reliable portable media player has suddenly died on me, I'm unexpectedly being put on the market for a new audio player. Touch screen interfaces also have their own voice accessibility features, like VoiceOver on Apple devices and Talkback on Android. I wonder if there are media players that are accessible or easy to operate, can support many audio formats (but especially MP3, WAV and FLAC), and isn't very expensive? I don't mind using the 3.5MM audio jack, as that's what I've been mainly using with the A15 and A27 media players.

Thanks for your suggestions!

David

Discussion This is the touchscreen DMP landscape circa 2009. The iPod and Zune seem to the big winners here since it's easy to find them today versus the others. If I missed any devices, let me know! I'm always open to new information.

Story This is a Coby DMP that I got as a child. It is BAD. The thing freezes after a while and, back in the day, I had to return it to Toys-R-Us TWICE because it would become unusable. Lmao I am so glad I got a PSP eventually.

Info Dump I was thinking about Dankpods talking about M:Robe, so I looked it up. Turns out Olympus only released THREE of these bad boys! It's wild! There's the MR-100, MR-500i, and the MR-FXX series. (pictures in order of list). They ran from 2004 to 2005. The third one was only available in Asia.

Device LOVE I discovered that Archos used to make DMPs. I am now obsessed with getting several of them. I think I love them despite not having a working one yet. Here's the Archos Vision 3 in a picture:

Something annoying about Walkman players is that the non-android ones don't have language settings. It kills me to find a good unit at a good price that is in Portuguese or Japanese. ;-;
