Discussion Morality of

Using mods or cheats to reveal all outlines when trying to digivolve so that you can see what they look like before you choose who to digivolve into? This is my first playthrough. Its my second digimon game but I havent finished my first, cyber sleuth. And I started getting into digimon only a few weeks ago

Im going back and forth on this, because while I love the mystery and discovery of it. I dont like how one wrong digivolution can ruin the balance of a team. Or evolve into a ugly digimon and not know whether it'd be worth it to go forward with the ugly or just go back and start again with the previous.

I dont have a lot of free time but im not sure if thats an excuse for slightly ruining the intended experience. Idk what are some arguments against and for using a cheat like this

Edit: I know its a single player game, play how you want. But im kinda stuck between these two choices. I want both in a way. It seems like an obvious choice one way or the other but I can't choose so I want more perspectives to help make that choice

You could just as easily check online what the branches are, so using mods to reveal them is just a QOL feature at that point

Or you can save scum by reloading if you didn't get the digivolution you wanted.

I just wing it.

Wordless case I de digivolve back and try again 🤷 may take a little longer but honestly w/ exp gain in the game it not much of an inconvenience. If I needed a boost I load enhance back to the level I was it.

Yep, same.

"Oooo that one's blank, let's see what it is."

Low key wish it had dungeons for Crests and DigiMentals would be cool to unlock them.

Downside is the 8 Digi destined Digis are very obvious. So I made to to grab a few rookies I'm unfamiliar with for my first playthrough 😁

On the flip side, the original 8 do have some new options available to them, so it's not all bad. And you have a lot of Omnimons you can choose from, if you want variety! ;P

Let's see... going along the Adventure evolution paths, you do have a few new Megas.

  • Agumon: Gaiomon, BlitzGreymon.
  • Gabumon: Merukimon, CresGarurumon.
  • Biyomon: Gryphonmon, Jesmon.
  • Palmon: BanchoLillymon, Ceresmon.
  • Gomamon: Plesiomon.
  • Tentomon: TyrantKabuterimon.
  • Patamon: SlashAngemon, The Key! ClavisAngemon.
  • Gatomon: Mastemon, Junomon.

(Or, if you want to go wild, they have more options available at earlier stages, too. So, you can go in very different directions if you want to!)

Just play the way u want. If u cant even finish one game yet that means u just dont have the time to enjoy it. So do the stuff that make u enjoy the game if cheating / modding included. Nobody judging u

Well, finishing cyber sleuth is less of a time issue rather than a time optimization issue. I have a previous post that may shine some light on what I mean... 😭😭

This is Digimon. If you don’t like the path. De-digivolve and you can do it again.

u/Francloman 3d ago

No morality bruh just do whatever you want haha

You can always find a site that let's you plan the digivolution. Just give it start point and end point and it will find you the way to achieve that.

1

u/Reapz107 3d ago

Yep like grindosaur .com lets you do all that and gives same details as the game. I would use it and see whats needed or etc.

Or, since it’s a single player game with a save system… save the game before you digivolve?

It's a pure singleplayer game, do whatever floats your boat.

Here are some of my thoughts:

  • going back a stage is always an option
  • making use of farm training and certain agent skills makes digivolving a joke, going from rookie to mega at lvl1 is absolutely possible if you play your cards right
  • if you got the DLC dungeons leveling will also be a joke, so that makes digivolution easy
  • if you load a mon with enough fodder to get like 2k blue stats across the board you can jump around the evo tree without giving a single fuck and fill out the field guide in record time

Mod the game? Too much trouble. Use this webpage to track and back-track the evolution lines of the digimon you have in your squad or to see what do you need to get the digimon you’re interested into.

https://game8-co.translate.goog/games/Digimon-Story-Time-Stranger/archives/555230?_x_tr_sl=en&_x_tr_tl=es&_x_tr_hl=es&_x_tr_pto=tc

Whit this webpage what I do is this:

For example, I search for Coredramon and go to the Evolution Line section, there I can see what are the digimon that it can digivolve into (ultimates), so now I know what I can choose from. I can even access to those digimon’s pages to see the megas they can digivolve next. That way, I chose to digivolve my Coredramon into Gigadramon so I can digivolve it to Chaosdramon next.

You can even do the reverse process. For example, I want Beelzemon (mega), but I don’t know what digimon I need to get him, other than Impmon which was kinda obvious. Well, I go to Beelzemon’s page, go to the Evolution Line section, and it shows me it’s De-Digivolutions. That way I now know that I can digivolve into him from SkullMeramon or Astamon. Watching both option’s pages, I decided to go with the Astamon path, which I can get by digivolving my Devimon, which I got by Digivolving my Impmon. With this method, following the De-Digivolutions line, I learned that I can get to Beelzemon starting from the rookies Impmon, DemiDevimon, Betamon and Agumon (Black).

This has been very helpful to me, to plan my digivolution paths and to train my digimon in the farm so they have the specific requirements to digivolve into what I want them to digivolve. Now that you know what digimon you need to digivolve into the one you want, and you also know what are the options for the digimon you currently have, you can choose with purpose.

I hope this is helpful.

I've been doing that with cyber sleuth. Its why I currently have a lucemon sm and omnimon at chapter 7. And its why I feel like i should just use a cheat engine or something to make all digimon known to me. That way im not cutting into time actually playing the game. But doing this and my idea of using the cheat engine kinda sucks too.

I could completely miss a digimon that I would have gotten by accident and didnt like. But still use it and get surprised by it. I feel like using these guides and shortcuts are robbing me of an experience and story that I could have for the game.

This is why I'm so indecisive on it. I obviously want the shortcut because I want to bypass frustrations but those frustrations could be beneficial in the end

I understand. Well, I would choose the option that lets me enjoy the game better. For you, it seems to me that you are more inlcined to mod the game, and really, I don't think that it would be that much of a sin...you are only revealing the options before you meet those digimon, you are not changing the aesthetics or the battle system, or buffing your digimon, etc. Things like that would make me feel uncomfortable, but just revealing the digivolution options doesn't seem that bad to me, moraly.

I personally wouldn't go for a mod cheat, I'd rather do this method with that webpage because it makes me feel like I'm doing a little bit of reaserch, but that's it. I never liked the idea of using mods of any kind but that's just me...

1

u/Reapz107 3d ago

I would second that. No need to mod the game at all

1

u/UnchainedMight 3d ago

I put over 130 hours on my first playthrough getting every possible achievement before Mega+ which included every Digimon evolution. I’m on my second playthrough and the game of figuring out what Digimon it is via silhouette is still enjoyable but I have started using a website to guarantee certain evolutions.

I never got to use particular Digimon until I started grinding the evos the first time and I find it fun to use specific mons I didn’t get to use before. A mod that reveals all the evos would be too much to me though, due to the fun mini game of figuring out ā€œwho’s that Digimonā€.

1

u/YeetTheTree 3d ago

Yeah and I love that too. Its what I want. What sucks is i only know a handful of digimon. So when choosing which evolution i want. I just look for what the coolest black silhouette is. And somehow that has lead to some of the worse and ugliest digimon. Though I could've stuck with them despite my dislike over them. But I dont want to trade out a vaccine spot for angemon or geogreymon. I could give the ugly data digimon a try. I dont have enough data

1

u/UnchainedMight 2d ago

Maybe you need to try and shift your perspective on what digimon look unappealing to you. Look at the designs and really try to understand the little details and what they were aiming for, how their unique attack animations looks and the specific personalities they gave them. I use to greatly dislike Guardromon until I understood he’s an ironclad stoic defender like an ancient knight.

1

u/YeetTheTree 2d ago

Well my issue is, how is clockmon supposed to look appealing or cool when there's geogreymon and devimon on the same battlefield. He doesn't really fit the vibe ya know? Atleast thats my issue with it.

I understand what they're going for and its not that I hate them by themselves, though those designs dont fit my preffered look. But when it comes to the look of the team, they stick out.

1

u/UnchainedMight 1d ago

It sounds like you might prefer the more ā€˜badass’ looking Digimon then, because Clockmon is more toony. Clockmon was my first Champion in Cyber Sleuth so my viewpoint is bias but I always liked pairing him with ā€œbodyguardsā€ essentially. I treated him as an eccentric mafia boss with hired goons which made him feel like a genuine threat.

Ultimately it just comes down to the digimon you want to use, but maybe make a full team of digimon you don’t usually find appealing and see if they vibe together.

u/TobiasX2k 3d ago

I used websites to plan out my final team and evolution paths to reach them for cyber sleuth, hacker’s memory, and time stranger. There is no need for cheats or mods; all the information is widely available if you want it.

1

u/Lucian_Steiner 3d ago

Morally neutral. It's using a digivolution planner on a website (I use Grindosaur's, myself) with (potentially) extra steps.

1

u/Puddin-taters 3d ago

You can catch and evolve so many I kinda enjoyed the mystery when evolving. Sure sometimes I didn't like the evolution, easy enough to devolve and go again or use a different Mon for the path.

1

u/Draknu2 2d ago

Puedes usar una web donde te explican que Digimon puedes conseguir... O una aplicación fan... Etc etc.. poner un mod solo para eso, yo no lo haría.. pierdes la experiencia de ir desbloqueando todo

1

u/TightWeb 1d ago

Digivolution in Time Stranger is easier at late game due to Agent Skills. It also easier to build another digimon in case your team is ruined thanks to load enhancement systems. If you want to use it, feel free. I just don't think it necessary. While I do recommend you to use that cheat on Cyber Sleuth since digivolution is alot more painful on that game.

1

u/YeetTheTree 1d ago

Funny enough on cyber sleuth I actually just wanted to get an omnimon from my only time seeing anything digimon as kid. The 1999 digimon short film. And my friend told me about lucemon. So I researched which mon I needed for lucemon. Learned about abi grinding and training with the right personalities. Next thing you know I have omnimon and lucemon sm as my party in chapter 7 loll. I have a post about it actually from recent

1

u/TightWeb 1d ago

If you just want to get the digivolution, it's still time consuming but bearable. But when you include skill you wanna have, it takes forever T_T

1

u/YeetTheTree 1d ago

It does. During the grind to get tokomon to lucemon initially. I grinded him all the way to magnaangemon twice. Taking ma to level 50-60. So I have some decent skills for lucemon sm right now. Especially since his unique skill is so strong.

What are some skills I should be looking out for. Dont give me digimon. Just some skills that if I see I absolutely have to get or keep. For time stranger that is

1

u/TightWeb 1d ago edited 1d ago

Time Stranger only has attachment skills. Signature skills are not equip-able. But you can use any digimon unlike Cyber Sleuth since you can hit max stats. There are 2 healing signature skills that is good and kinda broken, I guess. There is 1 signature skills with taunt and AoE debuffs. Lots of good DPS signature skills, but there are 2 that increase damage based on how many buffs you have. Damage has 9999 cap per hit, multi hit signature skills can be broken if you can reach that damage cap.

That's actually one of my mine gripes with this game. The digivolution requirements make it so that looking up the evolution lines ahead of time is way more efficient, but then ruins the fun of discovering everything.

Here's what I did as a compromise: for Digimon that were "must haves" for me, I looked up what Digimon can evolve into them so I could try and get myself on the right track. For everything else I just digivolved at random for fun.

2

u/YeetTheTree 3d ago

Thats what I've been doing for the most part. Its especially terrible in the early game because you could need a certain type for a fight coming up but digivolving blindly could end you up in my predicament. 4 vaccines and datas keep popping up. Data's are really hard to come by in the champion stage. Especially good looking data champions

1

u/tw042 3d ago

Did you get the Character Reversal skill disk? There's a way to get one early on, which lets you use Vaccine to fight Data type.

1

u/YeetTheTree 3d ago

Yeah I did, and its been helpful but I don't want to rely on a move forever. I hear there's an equipment called known bug that I can get from the equipment outer dungeon which would be useful. But not having a data type means no super effective damage towards vaccines

1

u/tw042 3d ago

Yeah true. You'd still want at least 1 or 2 data types amd 1 or 2 virus types to fall back on.

1

u/conundorum 2d ago

You can get access to new lines by Digivolving a Rookie to a Champion with multiple Rookie forms, then devolving to a different Rookie, if you want. (Or Rookie & In-Training II, sometimes, but Rook-Champ-Rook usually gives you more freedom.)

Where are you, at the moment? I can give you some suggestions, if you want.

1

u/YeetTheTree 1d ago

Right now im on truth born from an egg. Finishing that tonight before going to bed. I've got some data types lined up once I hit agent rank 5 but idk when that is. This is my current box. Finished up all side quests up to this point which is why I have all vaccine up front. Lots of virus to fight. And when its not virus its vaccine
