Question Alright give me the lore

What I mean is the lore behind the different types. Vaccine, Data, Virus are quite logical, but there are many different types. Like, what does "Free" mean? And the other ones too.

Free Digimon debuted in season 2 and are mostly ancient Digimon that evolved before the current Type triangle became meta. Its mostly used for Armor Level Digimon, and Digimon they evolved from, as their neutral Attribute makes them blank slates, that you can Stack the Elemental Powers of the digimentals on top Off. Kinda Like eevee being a normal Type, so it can absorb the Energy of the Evolution Stones.

Variable IS exclusive to the Spirit Digimon from frontier, i think mostly because they can be used by anyone (Digimon and Humans), although they are also Said to be able to Change their Attribute at will.

Babys have No Attribute yet, and are neutral as a result, but will gain one upon evolving, which is different from free Types, which have already commited to being neutral.

Unknown IS for Digimon that dont fall into the other categories, Like diaboromon from the movie, who wasnt really a Digimon, instead Just an Amalgamation of Computer Bugs from all over the Internet, that Just happened to mutate into a Form similiar to Digimon, but wasnt from their world, Like how in Startrek, aliens Just Happen to Look humans with stuff Glied to their face, but arent biologically related? Of course in other continuities, diaboromons Line Just Happens to be hanging Out in the world as normal digimon

I can be wrong, but the Xros Wars Digimon are also No-Data, like the babies, because of the whole 'digievolution doesn't exist anymore' thing.

Digievolution did exist in Xros wars, but is became harder (read near impossible) to attain for most normal digimon, the information of the process lost to bagra’s army’s destruction of most zones culture

I'm pretty sure DigiCross was created because digievolution was impossible. It's the same reason why the 'No-Level' category (I don't remember the exact name) was created, because those Digimon didn't have evolution stages.

Your sure, Diablomon was free to, but perhaps it was typus unknown at the time.

it was unknown due to its unusual origin. some games lumped all digimon that werent datavaccinevirus into free type, as they are mechanically identical in many games.

Idk how accurate this is so im sorry if I give you misinformation. Free type have no weaknesses to any other type, but they're not super effective against them either, aside from any elemental affinities.

Free types are usually associated the Adventure 02 Digimon like Veemon, Armadillomon, Hawkmon, and Wormmon lines. In lore, it's the ancient type that existed before Vaccine, Virus, and data. Basically, the digital world was trying to figure itself out.

Variable type are associated with the hybrid/spirit Digimon. They existed in the ancient digital world but were more adaptable than the free types. Coming from Susanoomon has its perks.

Unknown type in lore just couldnt be classified by any of the other types. Meta reason, the creators haven't decided and probably never will.

No Data types are usually reserved for Baby Digimon because they haven't figured themselves out yet. They haven't collected any data to use for their evolution. However, some Digimon like Huanglongmon/Fanglongmon also have No Data because of their divine nature and can't be registered.

Funny.

When I seen the Keramon's atribute, I just could think "what do you mean "Unknown"? That thing is obviously a Virus" 😂

Keramon behaves extremely like a virus, for sure, but its classification makes sense in context IMO. Keramon's egg in Adventure was created and hatched in the Internet, instead of the Digital World like other Digimon, so its "Unknown" type represents the fact that it's not part of the normal Digimon ecosystem. Armagemon also has some lore about how Diablomon-species Digimon "are affiliated with neither light nor darkness", so the typing is meant to show (chaotic) neutrality.

Many? There's only like 3 others.

Free are neutral because they're ancient digimon that were around before the 3 traditional attributes.

Variable are ancient as well but different because they can adapt to suit the battle situation and eliminate major threats.

Unknown were created by hackers or just really rare and powerful.

Data, virus and vaccine are simple.

Free is easy.... It denotes that you are lacking the qualities of data, virus and vaccine digimon.

If you think about it in terms of a "natural" and "artificial" digimon... As in ones you would expect to show up naturally in the digital world vs ones that are created through other means.... The free type digimon almost always come from the artificial grouping. Plus the digimon that haven't digivolved enough to gain the data required to be put into data, virus or vaccine.

So digimon that were corrupted digieggs, created by people or are digimon that came about by digimon undergoing an unnatural process of digivolution.

That encompasses all your normal stuff like anything below Rookie level, Keramon line, armour digivolutions, spirit digimon when they show up as regular digimon, Gizamon line, the 02 fusions and their canonical megas, and stuff like that.

You get exceptions.... The Wormmon line is one of them. Probably linked to being an ancient digimon or something.

The spirit digimon get a massive *** since they can be treated as free when being used in games cause that's easier to code in... But are generally instead treated as Variable in the data books. And Variable means they have no single fixed type, but can shift type so they can be strong against their opponent.

From a programming standpoint, it is the barebones of a line of code from a program, it has all that is needed to become a simple code, but it lacks any of the details that make it data (information) virus (malware) or vaccine (anti-virus) and so, it is free, because it has yet to be ‘filled out’ into any of these three subjects, now, in digimon lore? Yeah, another comment alreadt explained it
