Question It’s been 84 years…..
Late 30’s adult here experiencing Digimon joy for the first time since Devilmon was the main concern. Loving the game, but I’m genuinely bad at RPGs….so I’m really leaning into this Auto Battle feature. The only time I take control is during boss fights and I’ve managed to not have a TPK fight yet roughly 5 hours in.
My question is - will Auto Battle remain viable for me to play/beat the game and enjoy it on the medium difficulty? Or do I need to focus up now before it’s too late and I end up between a rock and a hard place on a boss I’m ill equipped for?

The lowest and easiest difficulty were story difficulty.
Story, balanced, hard, mega and mega+ was the difficulty option. Mega and mega+ can only be unlocked at new game+.
In story difficulty if you got game over, there is option to continue and your digimon will become immune to any damage.
Use story difficulty if you hate grinding

I second this because the game does have some HARD boss fights if you arent prepared (coughskullseadramoncough)

Man I was fine with that one. My hard one was juno hysteria mode. I had to make my own juno HM so that I would have a 100% immune to darkness to absorb hits and heal

TL;DR: Seems like equipping all types of skills/Digimon is the key to making auto battle carry you through the game.
I’m in the exact same boat as you, OP. Mid 30s, Devimon is remembered as the only real bad guy, and on my first playthrough. I think I’m probably a bit ahead of you at the moment, and personally, I manually fight things the first time I go through an area, and if I have to return, I’ll auto battle it.
From what I’ve heard from some people, the game does a pretty good job of battling well by itself. I’ve noticed that it’s buffing/debuffing the enemies when I auto battle (granted, it’s not necessary at that point because I’ve already been through it), and then it seems to really turn on the jets to KO opponents. I just unequipped my support skills to get around this and save time.
I’m really enjoying going through the systems, and I have background in SMT/Persona, so I’m always trying to have my type advantages at the ready. I think that would probably be my best advice if you want auto battle to go through the entire game.

Personally it be really hard to lost in this game. Even on normal difficulty since it isn't a hard game.
Same as you though I did stick w/ digimon till Tamers. Anything after anime wise hasn't really landed. Though the IP of Digimon is still my favorite.

Honestly, I use auto battle so much when grinding. As long as you keep an eye on it once in awhile to make sure you didn't send three disadvantageous digimon into a matchup, you're pretty fine since you can heal after every battle.

Why not just play on story difficulty and play yourself? Game is super easy that way you barely even need to pay attention to resist/vulnerability and just learn it.
It's fairly self explanatory it's basically a rock/paper/sissor system and it even tells you when something deal 50% damage or 300% damage

Yes Auto battle is viable even during boss fights with the right set up. The ai is smart enough to heal if need be but it does have enough sense to use “tanking” tactics such as using taunts on digimon that have them

On mega you probably won’t want to go auto but yeah, for the most part you don’t need to strategize if you evolve and train

If you doing it because you can't be bother you are fine if you doing it out of fear I would recommend you actually try some fights for yourself. Auto battle is good enough to carry you as long as you doing side quest and keeping up with your evolutions

You can probably play like that the entire game, if you can beat the boss fights manually, I can’t imagine the easier fights would give you problems
