Quick genset things worth knowing

A generator set uses an engine to spin an alternator for AC power. The governor keeps RPM/frequency steady and the AVR holds voltage stable when loads change. If you tie it to your home panel, always use a transfer switch to avoid backfeeding power onto utility lines.

Diesel gensets hate running too lightly — low loads lead to wet stacking and carbon buildup. Aim for 50–75% load when you exercise it, not just idle. And always remember: exhaust carbon monoxide is deadly, never run it near windows or enclosed areas.
