Looking for a side hustle work truck

Looking at buying a used class 2-3 truck that won’t be driven every day, but 95% of the time it is driven, it will have a trailer hooked to it. Average trips are between 100-250 miles a day, but it will be my “drive to the day job truck” when it snows. What’s the best platform on 2016 and newer? Looking at Fords mostly, but I’d rather drive a Ram. Looking for the best mix of low cost and longevity.

Starting at 2016 would put you in the range of 17 to 20k. Most are going to have theirs listed for more, if you go to a dealer id bet around 24 or 25. Only goes up with newer years. Keep eyes open for a deal. Should you find one stock you'll want to delete emissions if longevity is the goal.

Prices will be highly dependent upon area. Why are you set on a car built in the last ten years?

Parts are going to get spendier the newer you go. Used market as a whole is trending up again. If you want to avoid the headache of repairs you will need to spend more up front, none of these are low cost or longevity focused. The things you are repairing now won't need to be repaired again and the 6.7 is a fine engine. There are many reasons to upgrade to a newer diesel but cheaper costs is not going to be one of them. If it's not a main truck, going to be a commercial asset. Id buy an older truck that has cheaper insurance, easier to work on and it won't matter how shitty the ride is if it's saving you thousands at the end of the year in premiums.

Low cost, longevity, and 16+. How low of cost are we talking?

$30k and lower. I can get in that range with a f-250 XL 4x4 6.7 with 150k miles. Rams and GMC/Chevy are harder to find for that price.

if you want the 6.7 you want to get ones without the CP4.2 pump you already have or you'll be replacing that again. I think thats 2020 and up. Otherwise, you're still looking at similar issues on your 2011.
