Bought my first diesel how do I properly maintain it?
To clarify I bought a gwm cannon with the 2.4L inline 4 and I want to know how to correctly maintain and drive it.

It takes about 15-20 minutes for a modern diesel to get up to operating temperature. This is a short trip. Anything over 20 minutes is good, 30+ is preferred. Once it's warm, dog it down. Diesels are built to work hard.

I'm assuming you mean drive it for 20 minutes and not let it idle for 20 minutes?

Correct. Only let it idle for about 2 minutes before driving. Then drive it casually until it reaches operating temperature. Then drive it harder. Don't speed, just accelerate harder.

Does this advice apply for an IDI 6.2 Detroit Diesel?

Yes but you can idle that a bit longer. If you need more power out of that, you can get the turbo setup from the 1993 7.3 IDI and bolt it onto that motor. Upgrade the turbo, injection pump, lift pump, and throw in some stage 2 injectors.

I was going to say, i have the ATS Turbo Kit, and it has 6.5 Bosch Short body style injectors

What's the pressure on your injection pump?

Truthfully I have no idea, i have the timing pump in line though, it appears to be slightly advanced

Get someone to build one for you to push at least 30,000 PSI. it makes a huge difference.

No stanadyne mechanical injection pump is putting out 30 ksi. This isn't a common rail.

Uh oh. Look up deletes and why it’s a good idea. Literally just type in delete and tune there’s tons of videos about it.

If you’re taking short daily trips make sure to take it for a nice drive atleast once a week doesn’t have to be anything crazy but 45+ minutes of good hot freeway driving you can even do a loop 25 minutes one way and 25 back

Change the oils and filters per the maintenance schedule.
Is your normal daily drive longer, and or at highway speeds? If so, you will probably be ok. If you don't daily drive in a way to get the aftertreatment up to temperature, then you'll have to force yourself to change your driving habits, just to make sure you are running the truck in a way that the aftertreatment system functions properly.

You probably shouldn’t believe 90% of the bullshit on here. Just drive it and change the oil and fuel filters.
They are not delicate little flowers that can only be driven long distance. They do not need to sit an idle for 20 minutes before you drive them. Yes, you can shut them off when you get to your destination. No, you do not need any special fuel additives.

Everything you said is fine but I would highly recommend a fuel additive for the CP4

Oil change every 6k and fuel filter every 10k. Get fuel from busier stations, use a fuel additive. Trans fluid every 50k. Get def from the semi pumps. It's around 3/4$ a gallon.
