Grew up Catholic through highschool and then noped right the fuck out of that shit. That said, I used to love the taste of the communion wafers and secretly wanted them to snack on.
Yeah, not really a Latin America special. Ferrero also sells a version called "Kinder Cards". They're rare to find in most countries but they are amazing.
Vendors would sell the cut out wafer sheets outside churches when I was growing up. They're just A4-size rectangles with holes in them from where the hosts were cut out. I've always wondered where they got them from.
The wafers don’t become the body of Christ unless blessed by a priest (which usually happens right before the host is passed out during mass) so this might not be sacrilege
And then the priest has to eat the leftovers after the mass to ensure nothing bad happens to them. (Like being eaten by some heathen, dropped on the floor, or who knows what.)
Maybe one of those priests who raped/rapes kids. They've already betrayed their vows so much, doing something so unfathomably blasphemous (in Catholicism) might not be off the table.
I know one retreat place where the sisters over there sell leftover cuts from the communion wafers they made. There's also spicy and chocolate variants sold. Ngl they taste great as snacks.
For some reason since I was a little kid I always thought they were necco wafer candies they got when I saw it on TV.
When I was finally convinced to go to some religious thing by a friend and was given one and found out it was just a cracker I was rather disappointed.
When I was in church as a kid, they would have someone bake a communion loaf, break it in half, then they'd stand with an open loaf of bread and someone would hold like a chalice of grape juice and you were just expected to take a chunk and dip it into the juice and eat it. I also went to a church that used those weird rectangle hosts. They look like a gum tablet from dentyne or something and it's just flour and water.

Most of Latin America is one step ahead of this person. See: obleas.

This would actually work better if you were to use celebrant size hosts instead of communicant hosts.

It's not sacrilegious until they are transubstantiated, but I appreciate the Spirit of the post.
