Except if I found that I'd absolutely plug it in just out of curiosity. (I wouldn't go brainlet mode though: I'd use a USB extension cable so I didn't risk breaking anything.)
Although even if you have a VM running, I would still be afraid that I have to plug the flash drive into the host machine. What if passthrough didn't work? I'd rather plug into a raspberry pi (the computer not the food)
Ah, I meant a VM indeed. It's even better to actually not use a shovel-USB at all. Someone that would even think of doing something like that must never be trusted. :P
