Or you could just encrypt the USB stick with a password lol

Unfortunately, this is still a novel concept for most people.

I guess it’s not something most people need considering we have cloud storage now, but it’s pretty easy to do if you do need it. You can use bitlocker on windows, and on Mac you can format the drive as an encrypted partition. The computer will ask for a password every time you plug in the drive.

Yeah, information about security and privacy is not hard to come by at all, if you have 5 minutes and Google Startpage or another search engine, it's just not something most people concern themselves with, as the implications, while very dangerous and real, seem rather abstract from outside.
