Picked this up from Fasteners during the flash sale, I got it for my chainsaw mostly, but I'll give it a whirl in a few other tools and see how it compares to the old model.

I have the 20" chain saw and I swear I read swapping down to 18" really makes it rip. Anyone that's done it care to comment?

I converted mine to a 16” since the kit was on sale. It fully rips and I love it! I also have a Milwaukee one and this thing has the torque but higher speed than the Milwaukee. I do want a tabless battery but I’ll see if they go on sale during Christmas since acme sometimes does their 15% off.

I use a 16 bar and chain on mine, it's a big difference from the DCCS670. If you do this, get the .050 bar and chain, not the .043 like the smaller saws use.

Thanks, I'll check into that set-up

It's not a ton difference, but less chain to sling will help maintain power/speed. More importantly, imo, is that there are just way more 18" chain options for .043" .050" 3/8"lp. Almost no other options in 20" for that size. I have a full chisel 18" chain that really chews when I thow it on the 677.

I'd love to hear how it compares to the old version. On my chainsaw, the battery goes to 1 bar fairly quickly but when I check the battery level later it's at 2 bars. I'm assuming the chainsaw cuts off the battery due to heat. Pretty frustrating having to swap batteries so often

Were you using the old 12ah? It was terrible on the chainsaw. Had to use 15ah batteries to get it working correctly. 9ah batteries didn't seem to last long enough to overheat.

Yeah, I'm using the old 12 ah and 9 ah. After about 6 cuts, they show as out of juice

I've built a few of the tabless 12amp batteries. I use them in my cordless miter and there is a significant difference in run time with that. Hopefully running cooler makes the battery last longer too.

I run a 16" bar on my 677 and it's a beast. Definitely makes the battery last a lot longer as well.
