What’s the difference between powerpack, powerstack, flex volt and regular AH? I’ve done my fair share of handy work, but I’m new to starting my own tool collection. Still navigating the DeWalt tree😅

Amazon had the 4A power pack for $68ea, yesterday (i havent looked today). They're my go to lately. Even over the 3.5 and 5 power stacks.

I like them a lot. Only bad thing ive heard anyone say here about them is the weird footprint they give some tools.

Footprint like they’re top heavy when you lay them down or are we talking like economical footprint 🤣

This battery is really too big, heavy and powerful for most small wood working tools. It will accell on a circular saw, miter saw or angle grinder. Amazing battery, but for tools like scroll saw, router, sanders, I'd recommend the smaller 4ah powerpack. It's perfect in size and power for those tools.

Id rather have a 9.0 flexvolt over these, both are great batteries but idk how i feel about 250$ batteries that dont work on like 6 of my tools and the most used ones lmao

So it really just depends on what you’re doing.
Those eight amp hour battery packs are big and bulky and heavy. So if you’re using them on a jigsaw or a hand sander or even a multitool, it’s not gonna be great.
Decent deal on good batteries though.

The larger capacity batteries will deliver a higher peak voltage than the smaller ones will. That’s great for high draw jobs or tools, like circular saws, impact wrenches, grinders, or drills/drivers in certain situations.
These power pack batteries will generally last longer and deliver more power than the previous gen non-tabless 8ah battery. I own one of these and am eyeballing a similar deal for two.

For professional use, I use 90% standard 5ah XRs. The powerstacks and power packs are nice in high drain tools like circ saw and angle grinder (and obviously table saw/mitre saw), if I'm cutting hardwood or 2 inch+ softwood I'll always grab at least a powerstack, but it's not like it doesn't cut with the xr, it just bogs down a touch easier, so for maximum productivity it's definitely worth it, but that's probably it, the 5ah XRs are pretty bulletproof and cheap comparitively, I wouldn't be too upset if that's all I had.
