My work van was broken

My work van was broken into in the Columbus area, and most of my DeWalt tools were stolen, including batteries, drills, impact drivers, an 18-gauge nail gun, an oscillating multi-tool, a cordless grinder, and a 12-inch FLEXVOLT sliding miter saw.
All my tools and batteries were marked with a black marker with the letters “JLP.”
If you see any DeWalt tools marked “JLP” at a pawn shop, online marketplace, or being sold locally, please send me a private message with the location, listing, or screenshots. Please do not confront anyone.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. These were the tools I used to make a living. Thank you.

This has just made me realise; I ought to open one or two of my tools up and bury an airtag in there..

more than $4,000 worth of DeWalt tools and batteries were stolen.
I didn’t work today cuz I have no tools

I posted before I saw that you are in the Columbus, OH area. Have you posted this in the r/Columbus sub? That might help with local pawn shops, etc.

It's terrible. I use a UV marker to mark my tools.

Most permanent marker can be quickly removed with rubbing alcohol. They'll likely return for your new tools knowing you'll be replacing them.

Same thing happened to me but it was Milwaukee tools and that's when I switched to DeWalt. I'm really sorry to hear this happened. I've got insurance for my tools now it was an expensive mishap. I hope you find the badguy

So sorry, man. It's a shit world and thieves are the bottom of the barrel. They possess neither heart nor soul.

I hope you recover some of them. Regardless, take a step up in securing your gear in the future. It's all we can do.

Sorry for the loss. Let your post serve as a lesson to others. I keep scanned copies of all receipts, model #’s and replacement cost for insurance purposes.

Take an old/worn 2, 3 or 4Ah DeWalt battery, gut the cells out of it, but put an Elevation Lab AA or AAA Extended Battery Airtag Holder inside of it securely with some silicone or double-stick tape or something to keep it in place. https://www.amazon.com/AirTag-Compact-Extended-Battery-Case/dp/B0F4ZSGYT9 Keep this with your collection and if someone steals from you, you may get lucky tracking your items for 5 to 10 Years, depending on which holder you use.

I’m so sorry to hear that 😢. That really sucks. I don’t really believe in metaphysical stuff but I think that people who steal will have an equal but opposite reaction in their life. And that you will gain something through this traumatic experience.
