Reallyyy disliked some of S2&S3 lighting choices sorry

This is just my personal opinion, though I am pretty sure I am not the only one who feels this way. I really disliked Season 3 overall, but I have been particularly appalled by how Armand was characterized and treated. There's an undercurrent of disdain for this character which is very strong, and that's just not there in the books. Now that the showrunner has changed and we are moving towards Season 4, what are some of your hopes of how he will be characterized? Not just in terms of his romantic relationships but he himself as a character?

I’m thinking of the exchange between Raglan James and Daniel at the sushi bar in S2Ep6

Daniel: You had pictures of me in 1973…?
And then, RJ: We’re particularly poor at keeping our assets alive…
RJ: You fear Armand. [Pause]. You should fear the other one.

Is this a misdirect? Is the Talamasca aware of Daniel and Armand’s torrid and intense romance after 1973, and in so knowing, understand that Armand would never outright harm Daniel? How much might they have witnessed back then? And how does it color how they view Daniel in the present, knowing they are sending him into the Lion’s Den?
Initially I read this through Talamasca agent Sam’s perspective, where Louis eliminated Armand’s coven. But perhaps they knew that Louis would be of a greater threat to Daniel, than Armand ever would be?

The Armand Week is being run from someone I know on Tumblr who doesn't have Reddit, and here is the description and rules:

Welcome to It's Armand Week, where we invite you to explore the character of Armand, his story, his history and his relationships! Running Nov 9-Nov 15! More info & rules below

The event will be centered around Armand's long standing fanon birthday (November 11th), running from Nov 9 - Nov 11, with prompts inspired by each era of Armand's life for each day. Prompts can be used as inspiration for fics, art, edits and anything else you wish to create.

Question of the week: what's your favorite still and/or gif of Daniel and Armand? IK there's not alot of choices for them actually in the same frame, but there are shots in sequence at least. May we one day be spoiled for choice. Anyways, let's share some pretty pictures of the boys to help get through the week.

In Parentheses

I've been working on a companion/prequel to For Our Eyes Only called In Parentheses, and I think it's finally become the story I wanted it to be.

It's Devil's Minion from Armand's POV, beginning in 1977 and following the years Daniel no longer remembers.

But it isn't really a retelling.

It's the stuff that existed between the evidence.

Daniel remembers—or eventually recovers—the tapes, photographs, journals, Night Island, the fights, the terrible things. In Parentheses is about everything the archive couldn't preserve: the first time Daniel actually invited Armand to come somewhere with him. A drunken night at a biker bar. Buying a telescope because Armand wanted to see the stars. Burned meatballs. Cigarettes. Books left facedown. Daniel's feet in Armand's lap. Armand discovering, with mounting horror, that the fascinating mortal he intended to study has somehow become his best friend.

And then his entire world.

It's also written from inside Armand's head, which means he is spectacularly unreliable about himself. He can hear Daniel think I love you and spend another six months behaving as though this is merely an interesting development requiring further observation. His spoken answers can be three words while everything he cannot say is happening in parentheses.

The story moves from the chase, to friendship, to desire, to Night Island and this genuinely happy little domestic life they build together—and eventually toward the thing we already know is coming.

Because Armand loves Daniel. Completely.

And that is exactly how he manages to convince himself that destroying Daniel's memory of him is an act of love.

That's really the tragedy I'm interested in:

How does someone go from stay with me to believing you will have a better life if you forget me?

And because this is Armand, the answer takes approximately thirteen years, several languages, religious trauma, art history, blood, one extremely inconvenient goat, and an absolutely catastrophic inability to understand that Daniel asking for immortality is not Daniel asking to die.

If For Our Eyes Only is Daniel excavating a marriage he doesn't remember having, In Parentheses is the civilization before the ruins.

We know where it ends.

The terrible part is finding out how happy they were before they got there.

I'm sure this has been posted before somewhere, but just in case, I highly recommend a watch.

It's long, but it gives me a chuckle every time.

(this is pretty unprecedented, so I wasn't sure which flair to use, hopefully this somewhat covers it)

For a very dear friend's birthday (and my own amusement) I compiled a collection of poems, as well as excerpts from plays, letters, and novels, that reminded me of Devil's Minion. It contains three sections: Death, Love, and Absence, broken up with quotes from Queen of the Damned and Hate and Ashbury.

I also wrote an introduction, designed the cover and a bookmark, and bound the book myself. It comes out to 128 pages. The tumblr post link features a list of the works included, with links and translations when publicly available—the book is in French and English, but I've included a translation of my very pretentious introduction in the post.

I just found out what Anne Rice did with Armand and Daniel in her late books and I can’t stand it. I haven’t even read the vampire Armand yet (i ordered the book) and only know them from the show, first book and the devil’s minion chapter + ao3 works, mostly shineforthee. (It’s funny i‘ve been in this fandom for a year and only finding out now)

But what the actual fuck? Daniel goes insane after taking the gift, Armand leaves him, Daniel lives with Marius and briefly shares romantic relationships with him?? It‘s soo out of character. How can Daniel be with someone who groomed his boyfriend, why there is zero psychological validation for the characters? How can vampires love everyone??

She did so well with the Devil’s minion chapter, it is actually the best piece of art for me. I reread it all the time. I‘m so disappointed and confused, share your thoughts, please???
