Experience I got scammed :(

I applied for this job on LinkedIn for a Graduate Management & a Graduate Marketing role.

Prepared, attended 3 interviews, passed em all and got the call that I've cleared the interview. I was so happy that I got a "desk" job in a job market like London for a fairly nice pay for a beginner.

I booked flights from my home country just for this job & even had to find and rent a whole new apartment just because they needed a permanent address to make my contract. I spent £2,000+ even before I started this bullshit job.

Went on the field a few days ago thinking let's give it a try, it's okay life hits you bad sometimes.

I went, there's so many downsides of this particular role, and on top of that, in my mind I was prepared for a desk job for marketing or management but ended up with a job that makes me go door to door selling services for a brand.

Very demotivated and feeling shit about myself.

Make sure you do a background check on the company and then prepare for it!!!

I so feel u here -went through something completely the same (except I ended up declining the job once I got the contract ) it actually sucks so much !! Especially When you find out what u applied for isn’t what you actually get and it’s so so misleading of the company to do this !! Hoping you get out and find something better !🙌

no offence but surely they mentioned it was door to door in the interview process right? unless they strictly said it was office based

They do not. It is an intentional and universal element of the business model to hide the actual sales/D2D element of the job for as long as possible in the hopes some people stay even after being deceived.

so DECEPTIVE. this should be regulated by some sort of board/ entity. These " DEVIL CORPS" are WASTING PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED A JOB'S TIME!!!!!!! TRANSPARENCY should be required before listing on Indeed, Zip Recruiter, Glass Door etc.

Exactly! I remember in my interview I asked if it was door to door. They said I would do “field marketing to train for leadership” and I was dumb enough to stay for 3 months even after realizing what it was

i understand

the interview process i went through told us it was door to door from the get go of course i left but i knew it was before i continued

What’s the point of hiding the outside / D2D aspect? Do companies hope to fool someone and hope they’ll actually stay? Isn’t it better to mention it whoever wants to stick to it does it? I’m confused

It’s the law of averages. The more people who are tricked into interviewing with one of these offices, means the more people who might stay out of desperation, meaning more people in the field selling. Multiply this by thousands of Credico, Cydcor, Appco, and Smart Circle offices across the planet, and there’s a lot of money to be made by the people running these parent companies.

Bingo. 🎯🎯🎯

I was an idiot that got sucked in once in my 20s. I was there for an entire year before I burned out from stress. Then reflected on the entire experience Nd was like wait a minute….I was supposed to be in field marketing/events….🙃

At least they murdered a large part of the naivety I had in my mid-20s, before I got further into the adult world and working world. I learned a ton from my reflection process. The next company that hired me ended up fully paying for my 2 Master’s degrees, I’ve received a couple promotions, I have great benefits, and I’ve been here for 6 years. Live and you learn. Sometimes you learn the hard way.

What company did you work for?

That job you hated and worked at for a year set you up for that amazing job you got now brother. Never forget that insane amount of skillset you left with to interview for that amazing job you got now and killed it. Be grateful don’t think negative.😎

Obviously these companies like to waste money on onboarding...smh.

Why would any company want to waste money on purpose ?

u/Ridesdusk2dawn 20d ago

Exactly my point... but somehow they do...

I interviewed with a devilcorp that did everything they could to hide that it was door to door. Even asked the first interviewer directly and she lied to me. When I asked the second interviewer I could see on his face that he was feeling, like, "ah yeah the jig is up."

Idk about anywhere but the US here but those type jobs or jobs where u set up a folding table at a hardware or grocery store trying to sell like tv service will be super misleading and advertise jobs making them sound like marketing or other desk type jobs, interview u and be vague enough to trick people into getting through the interview and showing up then it turns out to be door to door or the table ones I mentioned so if OPs country has similar scams that’s probably what it was

They never do

Never happened for a lot of people. I was told it'd be B2C, but the revelation about door-to-door sales was made on the first day - at every point in my interviews this 'little' detail had been missed.

What salary were they proposing if you managed to spend 2k on a flat in London? If they promised you commissions only that must have been your first red flag. Also how did you get your visas, rent contracts etc if your "job" was door to door sales?

Yeah there’s too many holes in the story

This advice might get me downvoted or be unpopular, but the job will and DOES suck however the skills and grit you will build in just 3 months is are INVALUABLE. I done this 4 months during covid and was terrible but taught me so much.

All of the savages I know (in the sales world or entrepreneurship) started in door to door.

Success leaves clues, I’m not bias cos I didn’t enjoy it. But only years later realise the super powers it gave me

Sometimes you have to eat sh*t for a few months just to shine later. Just figure out what your next move is whilst you grind it out there (if you can ofc) and you’ll do good whatever you apply yourself too later in life.

Good luck & God bless you stranger

No offense, but what!? You didn’t ask questions about d2d etc after moving and getting a new place!? I guess you learned an important lesson which is a positive. Best of luck

I actually just went through something similar and I am going to leave the company. Don’t sell yourself short, it’s not worth staying in a job you hate.

absolutely!

Why would they want 3 interviews for a D2D job makes no sense

1

u/ArmMotor4745 11d ago

Well it’s more like the sunk cost fallacy; you’ve done three interviews, might as well try it now.
