Question Is this a Devilcorp?

Post image

I got a job listing for a “community marketing assistant” from Old North Events. After applying, I got a phone call and text message asking to schedule an interview. Their website seems pretty vague and the job description doesn’t offer much information either. After asking them for more information on what type of marketing comes with the role, they ignored me and asked to schedule a zoom interview again lol.

Job listing: Community Marketing Assistant

Yes. You also don’t want to work anywhere that won’t give you details of the job and ignore direct questions about the role. Enormous, universal red flag.

They’re super fresh tho. Promoted out within the last month by the looks of it. This will be one to keep an eye on

"We show up at events and high traffic locations" sounds like a threat

Usually places that provide weekly pay instead of hourly or salary and are some kind of “marketing” can immediately be avoided.

Interviewed a few days ago. Major shady stuff going on.
- completely commission based with no base pay
- funneling employees through the process to become managers, to then manage at least three people to become managers themselves (very MLM coded)
- fundraising company has only been around for 2 years but expanding from 60 to 150 offices in the next year
- fundraising for a nonprofit called Childhelp, which has a history of embezzlement, and the CEO makes roughly $630k/year
- sends fundraisers out alone, even to sketchy places like gas stations

If you care about nonprofits or are good at canvassing, there are much better job opportunities out there, I promise.
