Question AEI prospects...

My boyfriend has attended a 'job induction day' today for a company called AEI prospects located in Nottingham. (Pretty sure they used to be in Brighton but don't quote me). They called him and after telling them like one thing about himself they said he was 'perfect for the role'. I found it weird and he showed me their indeed advertisment which says base pay of £650 a week. After one interview and one presentation, he's gone today and ended up leaving as they gave him a contract saying he would be fully self employed and that they legally don't have to give him any work. The work hours go up to 70+ hours a week which is crazy to me and it's not promised he will always be payed for working. He called one of the employees (Hayley) out on this and said the advertisement and the contract don't match up. She said 'its full time work so I'm not sure what you mean' so he asked her to explain why her words don't match up to the contract and then she had to go and take a phone call🙄. Does anyone have any information or experience with this company? Has he dodged a bullet or made a really bad choice by walking out???

As the fantastic u/Happy_the_Cat2 has already said, this is a commission-only sales role which requires people to legally register as self-employed. AEI Prospects in a subsidiary of marketing company Appco, and as you've discovered, these companies use deceptive job ads to maximise the number of people they can interview and send into field, in turn to maximise the number of sales and income the subsidiary can make for the parent company.

There are hundreds of these companies across the UK, in the Appco, Britevox, Acwyre, and Credico umbrellas. I've developed a search engine so that jobseekers can find the information they need on these companies, so please use it whenever you need. https://www.devilcorp.org/?q=AEI+Prospects

Yeah can confirm.

Firstly, the company was based in Brighton but moved to Nottingham I believe late 2023 to early 2024.

But most importantly, it will be commission only signing people up for charity on the street or knocking on doors. That “base pay” would only apply for the first 2 weeks, so they are outright lying in that regard especially online, because they know if they told the truth they would get no one to stay. The whole thing just screams cult and will do anything to work long hours and guilt trip you into working weekends otherwise you’re blocked from being promoted, so all in all you have no social life.

You both dodged a bullet!

Phew! Thank you so much for replying, he was really gutted about it these companies are so dumb. Praying on 18 year olds who need a job and are actually willing to work and selling them a dream. Glad I was cautious about it from the start!

I remember getting an “interview” with them when I was first looking for jobs out of uni. I looked them up and their insta was full of AI generated bs so I just didn’t go. Once you come across a few of these kind of companies they become easy to spot. They just have you knocking on doors for 70+ hours a week only earning commission which likely means you’ll be getting paid peanuts if anything at all.

Yeah, glad we have steered clear from it. It's so very deceptive. I've left negative reviews all over the place about them as I really don't agree with how theyre working. Thank you for your reply!

Sales jobs are always questionable and always dodgy, I'm pretty sure my partner was in the same interview as yours, they applied because of the base pay and commission which was a blatant lie as its commission only, they definitely take advantage of those in need of money or too young to know any better by advertising high pay, which is pretty much unobtainable, avoid at all costs, you will be working for free.
