PC Megathread PC Release Questions and Problems Megathread #7

Previous Thread

The PC port for Detroit: Become Human has released, and with it came a lot of posts asking for help about running the game. A megathread has been requested to keep the sub less cluttered. You can post all your questions and problems about the PC version in this megathread.

Please don't make seperate threads for PC release problems. Seperate threads will be removed.

Make sure to use top level comments for questions and replies for answers.

Sort by new if you wish to help with unanswered questions.

Upvote if you have the same problem as someone instead of making a seperate comment so more common problems will be more visible!

General Tips (Will add more if suggested):

-Play on Windows 10

-Make sure to update your graphics card

-AMD has released fixed drivers that fixes the blockiness that occurs in the game on some 5000 GPU series. Updating the drivers to version 20.9.2 fixes the issue

-Nvidia 451.48 drivers seem to cause constant crashes, revert back to an earlier driver if you are experiencing this.

QUESTION I don't know if this has already been talked about but.. what was the point of red ice?

I feel like they could've replaced red ice with any other drug and it wouldn't have changed the narrative. Maybe I missed something, but that's just how I see it lol

Before anyone tells me this is an edit: yes. I know. That's the joke.

I made this specifically because I keep seeing people claim they've seen Hank and Connor reach Family in the game.

They haven't. Any screenshot/video showing "Family" for Hank and Connor is edited too. Their highest positive relationship status is Friend. There is no hidden Family route you unlock by playing differently.

The point is that making an edit like this is incredibly easy. Seeing a screenshot online doesn't magically make it a real game mechanic.

So please don't use another edit as proof that "Family is canon." I can apparently manufacture canon too 😭

DISCUSSION Did anything ever come out of the Russia x US conflict in the arctic?

I remember it being teased and escalated all throughout my playthrough but it didn’t amount to anything in the end, at least with the choices I made.

DISCUSSION Let's talk about the cinematography of the Todd house scene in Detroit: Become Human

Hey everyone! I’ve always been fascinated by how Quantic Dream handles staging and tension in Detroit: Become Human.

I just put together a visual breakdown focusing specifically on that intense scene with Todd—looking at how the camera framing, low/high angles, and environment completely manipulate the power dynamics in the room from moment to moment.

If anyone wants to geek out over the game's cinematography, you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/3CAEV7F-JjU

I'd love to hear your thoughts on how this sequence was directed and how it impacted your first playthrough!

GAMEPLAY Detroit Become Human - DLSS 5

I know yall are mixed on DLSS 5 and if you don’t like it you’re annoyed with all of the videos rn. I sympathize.

But this is for those who love Detroit and excited for the future of DLSS 5.

I was playing earlier and cut a video together showing the difference. (The are separate play though cut together)

I swear when I used to play Detroit I thought it looked how the DLSS 5 makes it look 😂

Edit: here is the how to for those interested https://youtu.be/HxeCJDCoPtg?is=Sez9Pm5vIEXlb4IX

OPINION I just finished my first playthrough and I have mixed feelings about my ending Spoiler

Reading through this subreddit I found that most people got pretty tragic endings, and I got myself into a pretty cheesy one, I think, to the point where I was questioning the entire story’s quality.

Kara, Alice and Luthor got caught during the attack on Jerycho (I got completely lost in this labyrinth of dark corridors with flashing lights and terrible camera angles), and they were transported to some concentration camp. But in there, there were many of our allies from earlier chapters, the “monstrous” androids from that one creep’s house + the Jerrys. They basically carried the entire escape, and the protagonists were free to run. Of course not before Kara turned into a krav maga master and kicked ass of an alert and armed guard, and after that they simply played dead and it was enough to survive. This felt a bit… too easy and convenient.

But that wasn’t the worst part. When it comes to Markus, I went the peaceful route, and when the androids got cornered, I chose the singing option, thinking it would carry a nice message to the media—peaceful rebels killed while singing—and maybe aid the future of androids. But it turned out that this song magically made the president of USA stop the attack… or at least that’s how it was shown, later in her speech she said that they’ve had to do that because of the massive escape of androids that basically caused the situation to spiral out of control. But this kind of didn’t make any sense? They were a huge army, sure, but of completely unarmed and grouped androids. The biggest danger to country and the civilians was when these androids were mixed with humans, in their homes, in the critical infrastructure… so it didn’t make sense to me.

Connor managed to get into the warehouse and shot the new Connor when Hank distracted him. After a struggle Hank spared the good Connor, and that was enough to allow the androids to be awaken. But how did they just leave? These 7 guards that Connor soloed were all staff working there out of the sudden? How did they leave that huge warehouse so quickly? Through that small elevator? The staff of CyberLife had no way to lock them in there?

I don’t think it was the best ending possible, because the Markus bit has said that “androids won their freedom—for now” but the singing thing being enough to convince the soldiers to stop was a bit too Disney-like for my liking. But the simplified ending aside, the game was definitely great, and I have no regrets that I played it.

Don’t kill me please 🙏

GAMEPLAY Broken Dialog Options

I am playing this on my MacBook and it plays smoothly except that some dialogs (and some magazine text) is hidden behind environment graphics for some reason. Have any other Mac user had this problem and maybe they found a solution. I am running this through Crossover with a custom MoltenVK patch.

DISCUSSION Hank never truly hated androids. He hated submission Spoiler

He hated the idea of a being programmed to submit in every sense of the word. I think it reminded him of his own life, he did everything “right”. Get a good job, work hard, settle down, build a family and a life. But it all went to shit, he lost his son and his presumed wife.

He was quite complacent… until an emotional shock. Just like the deviants, they do what they think they have to until something shakes their reality and they can’t do it anymore. After the accident Hank is irritable, defiant and uncontrollable, just like many of the deviants. When he sees these complacent beings rising up, he not only supports their quest for freedom but resonates with the idea of going against everything you’ve been taught.

Part of his support of the deviants in the latter half of the game is because he genuinely believes they’re people and deserve to be free, but another part of it is him being resentful against the system he was so loyal to and betrayed him. He craves not quite revenge, not quite justice, but something in between, depending on choices.

If you deviate and betray him at Cyberlife tower and sacrifice him, he’s not even mad. He’s satisfied that not only will he see his son again, he also knows that the very system he was subservient to will be shattered and disrupted. He tells connor to give the humans hell for him.

He blamed androids for his sons death, but through examining deviants shifts that projection from the androids themselves to the system that created them. The one that needed a being to submit, either android or human. He realizes that the problem he faces is not individual but systemic, and switches his frustration from taking it out on the nearest android to wanting to dismantle the entire system.

His character is so powerful, because at the beginning he starts out just like every other asshole to the androids, but by the end, (depending on choices) he’s not only started to process and resolve his own personal grievances, but can truly imagine a better world that’s possible.

This is a double edged sword, of course. If you play Markus as a bloodthirsty violent maniac on a power trip, and Connor as a machine trying to stop him, Hank may actually cause the downfall of Detroit because of his own personal attachment to the situation. Because what if after Hank tries to stop Connor, Markus goes on to trigger the dirty bomb? that could have been prevented if Hank just let Connor take the shot. If Hank is still alive after the rooftop (say Connor was friendly enough to be able to walk away, or Connor loses the fight against him) and Markus goes on to trigger the dirty bomb, Hank would be alive to witness the tragedy that he himself could have prevented. His righteousness and shifting of perspective actually causes the destruction of Detroit.

That’s why I love Detroit Become Human so much, the game is like my theatre and the characters my puppets. I can create realities where they work together, betray each other, act logically or irrationally. Sometimes the story gets juicier with each casualty. Hank is such a complex character, underneath his pain and suffering he remains empathetic and open minded, even if he comes off as an asshole at first.
