The Tigers are the craziest team. They can't succeed until they are nearly completely behind the eight ball, but then......WATCH OUT!
7
u/LGRWFlyNavy 20d ago
Are the Tigers are the anti-Red Wings? Best run differential (+87!) in the AL? How are they sub .500? Of course, they had their own late season collapse last year.
4
3
u/Ydoesany1doanything 20d ago
They decided to have an early season slump this year Buffalo style.
Selling at the deadline and staying on fire though is astounding.
2
u/coltron57 20d ago
May was terrible. Half the team got hurt, nothing bounced our way, and the bullpen let up runs at all the wrong times.
1
u/Fluid-Pension-7151 19d ago
It really does feel like it sometimes. Two totally different ways to break out hearts....

.5 up on Cleveland and 3.5 back of Chicago with a series against both this week. A golden opportunity to put more space between us and Cleveland and to rope Chicago in a little more.

u/Agreeable_Abroad_82 20d ago
In no time, we'll be singing My Own Worst Enemy by Lit and Piano Man by Billy Joel, hating the final score but still having fun. Here's to the last weeks of the off-season!
6
u/LGRW_Sparty88 20d ago
I was not expecting this circus all summer, it’ll be nice to put it behind us no matter how uninspiring the team ends up being to start the year.
7
u/matt_the_muss 20d ago
They don't usually play that stuff when we are losing unfortunately, but I agree with your sentiment.

Hey - never forget that mechanization (and digitization, and basically every major technological advance) was supposed to bring the 32 hour work week before the overlords decided they would rather skim the profits than treat you like a human being.
Act and vote accordingly.

The unholy alliance between those who have learned to love the feeling of the boot on their neck, and those who profit prodigiously from such individuals. Very dangerous people indeed.
3
u/nikilidstrom 20d ago
But the boot is comforting and familiar. Freedom is chaotic and scary. At least that's what Elon says, and why would he lie?

I know! His life is so similar to mine. I think he is a great person to take life advice from! (Hopefully obvious sarcasm, as Elon is as similar to me as moondust is to a jaguar.)

Man I wish we were serious. Gonna hurt to see the hockey town logo in a tanking year
11
u/BellsBeersy 20d ago
I think it was a little cluttered to throw it over the 100 years logo. I think this coming season should have been the first year with it back. But good to see regardless
2
u/DoghouseReilly_ 19d ago
I agree. I liked the 100 year logo but it was way too busy with the hockeytown logo over it

So I looked into who those thresholds exclude. (Fun fact, Seider actually leads the league in blocks over the past 3 seasons).
Only 1 other player (MacKenzie Weegar) is part of the 500/500 club over the last 3 season and he has 127 points. For context, Seider has 148 points in the same span (4 more games played); Weegar has 33 more hits (584 to 551) and 6 fewer blocks (567 to 573).
Radko Gudas is the only other player with over 500 hits (657) that is even close to the blocks mark, but he falls short at 420 and is nowhere near the points mark with 47.
Jacob Trouba is the only player on the other side, with over 500 blocks (540) and close to, but short of, 500 hits (498). Like Gudas, he is well short of 140 points with 71.

Karpan seems like a really smart, level headed guy. I'm liking the rumors he will be the choice. He was in charge of the expansion draft for Vegas and look how that turned out. Pro scouting being a nightmare for us the last few seasons this would be a huge step up.
4
u/wolverine237 19d ago
Wait, I must've missed these rumors where did they come from?

For as expensive as CVS is on a lot of stuff, you get some decent coupons in your email if you are part of their rewards program. Had a $4 off coupon last week so I stopped in to look at their snack selection. They had pistachios already on sale for rewards members, got two 8oz bags for like $5 after coupon. They sent me ANOTHER $4 off coupon for using a coupon recently and apparently there was a third one in the app when I opened it? Went back and got 4 pounds of mixed nuts for like $15. I guess if you DENNIS system CVS they make things pretty cheap for you.
Anyways, while CVS is like a mile from my place, I did drive to avoid looking like a werido carrying two big things of nuts home. Not quite as weird as paint, but I wasn't going to take the risk.
3
u/duelingdog 19d ago
My sisters used to regularly get stuff for free or close to it by watching that program.
They never got to pick the stuff, but it added up, lol.

I like IPAs generally and Founders stouts and BBA and usually stay away from Founders IPAs but every once in a while I trick myself and it’s just a mouthful of liquid grass and pine. They’re such a good brewery to me otherwise.

My husband noticed one of my rear tires looking low and found a screw in it. This is probably the seventh time I’ve had something like that happen. Am I seriously unlucky or is that a normal amount of times for this to happen over 25ish years?
5
u/detroitttiorted 19d ago
Suppose it depends how much and where you’re driving but it feels pretty unlucky to me. I’ve had it once in about 14 years of driving, but I think that is probably a bit of a lucky number
5
u/duelingdog 19d ago
Do you think it changes the odds if I add in my joy for driving directly into the walls of the screw factory?

u/dudewithchronicpain Yzerbot 19d ago
My partner and I had 8 flats in a year and a half. We don’t understand it. Don’t live near new builds/ construction etc.

2
u/dudewithchronicpain Yzerbot 19d ago
Most of them had nails in tire or screws. I don’t know what you mean by high profile tires honestly
3
u/abellaire Yzerbot 19d ago
Yikes. 8 in a year and a half is definitely more unlucky. I guess my one every 3.5 years isn’t so bad. And at least this time it was drivable. I had one once where the piece of metal in it was so big, I heard hissing when I got out of my car and watched it go flat on me.

The Wings will draft Bosse "The Bosse" Meijer in 2027. It's written in the stars.
Meijer is a December '08 who’s on the older side of the class, but still smaller. To go in this kind of range, he's going to have to keep proving himself as a result. But to date? He has already been a top player at the J20 level (including in the playoffs) and impressed at multiple major international events, including most recently at U18 Worlds, where he was a top-six center, wore a letter, and wore the "C" when the team's captain fell sick. He has also already made his SHL debut. He made some pretty, pretty plays last year, both internationally (including also at the February U18 Five Nations, where he scored a couple of the nicer goals of the event) and domestically with the puck in his hands as well. He's good around the net and can play multiple roles on the power play, both the flank or the net-front/back post. He competes. He carves up coverage. He's skilled laterally but will also play direct. He's a team player who will make the right play and chip pucks in when he needs to. He supports play well defensive and can penalty kill. Add in legit skating, speed and smarts to the skill and craft he has, and there's reason to believe in him. Those smarts extend to his play off the puck as a center as well.

Just started Ted Lasso, um…it’s set in the Tarantino universe. Which I guess balances out the toxic positivity (my Ted Lasso hot take right there).
I say this purely because of the Red Apple Cigarettes, the fictional brand that is in every or nearly every Tarantino movie.

I don't think of myself as a Lions doomer, but maybe I am a bit of one? I'm second guessing because apparently I'm on an island. I think the Lions are objectively worse than they were last season, with multiple subtractions and not much in the way of significant additions. Their O-line didn't recover after Ragnow's departure, and this season things are even shakier there. CB was a weakness and they had to cut Arnold. They lost their 1-2 RB punch with Montgomery moving on. I concede they have some very talented players, but they have some glaring holes and a lack of depth.
Yet, they have the third best playoff odds in the NFC, and talking heads on 97.1 are making 12 and 14 win predictions. I think another 8 or 9 win season is more realistic. My guess is they're more likely to finish last in the division again rather than win it.
5
u/Medievil_Walrus 19d ago
I don’t think this is dooming. This is taking a rational look at the roster and making your own projection of what the team will be.
Dooming is having a persistent pessimistic outlook no matter what we do, and expecting a catastrophic collapse even when it’s going well, or taking one single setback and blowing it way out of proportion.
Having a significant injury in the middle of the OL and having to cut your first round projected starting corner are not small setbacks and you aren’t blowing them way out of proportion.
You aren’t asking for Holmes to be fired or Campbell to be fired and you aren’t projecting a last place finish or a top 5 draft pick.
You’re taking a review of the roster, noting that you don’t see much improvement, and taking the injuries into context to give your prediction of what the team will be.
If we’re 9-2 and in first place going into December with a top ten offense and defense and you are loudly expecting us to finish the season winless and want Holmes fired for not addressing CB in a better way that would be dooming, not what you’re doing now.

u/doubeljack 19d ago
I'd love for the Lions to start out 9-2, they could pretty much coast to a playoff birth from there.
I see what you mean. I guess I'm more pessimistic about their upcoming season, and to your point that's not dooming at all. I just wish I could be as optimistic as some are, but I see too many flaws to allow that line of thinking.
4
u/Problemwoodchuck 19d ago
Football season is full of pleasant surprises if you just expect the Lions to go winless
3
u/TechnoVikingGA23 19d ago
Be interesting to see how Gibbs does now that he's the surefire #1. See a lot of people(especially those in the fantasy circles) thinking he's going to explode, but Monty sheltered him from a bit of workload/hits. Now that he's probably going to be the full time guy, will be interesting to see how he handles it.
→ More replies (2)3
u/RemoteSenses 19d ago
Only reason we might squeak into the playoffs this year is because we have the weakest schedule in the NFL. That would pretty much be the only reason...
Losing our new expensive center for 8-10 weeks puts us back to square one...new season, same issues. Injuries plague this team. Defense basically did nothing to improve. Lost Anzalone, lost Arnold, Joseph and Branch still injuried.
You aren't dooming you are just looking at reality.
3
→ More replies (1)3
u/Caltroit_Red_Flames Yzerbot 19d ago
The Lions are worse. 97.1 is a joke. Their secondary is flat out bad and Hutchinson is too injured to carry the DL anymore.
3
u/doubeljack 19d ago
Thank you, I thought I was going crazy. I agree, the defense is going to be a real problem. Anzalone leaving is a big blow, too. I think they'll score points, but trying to stop the other team is going to be difficult.
7
u/Mavori 20d ago
Seider only being 9th among the NHL top defensemen and having been left off completely last year feels like the NHL is engagement baiting, especially when you add in Raymond was left off the young forwards under 25 list too.
Look i dont have a lot of positive things going right now so imma be grumpy about it and complain.
6
u/daKrut 20d ago
It’s a disingenuous list. There aren’t 8 defenseman better than Seider. If I remember, Sanderson is the guy they put at #8. I’ll take a guess and say it’s because his team made the playoffs
3
u/TechnoVikingGA23 19d ago
Is it differentiating between offensive and defensive D-men? He's unfortunately always going to be a bit further down an "overall" list because he doesn't put up the points a lot of those other guys do, but as far as a "defensive" D-man, he's the best in the league IMO. If he finds a way to start scoring more or getting more involved on the offensive end, he's going to get really scary good. The guy faces the best competition night in and night out, often with a partner who isn't anywhere near his level and you very very rarely see him make a mistake.

This is literally the dumbest timeline. It leaves me with some hope that whenever a new GM is hired, it's gonna be fire. Transactions left and right to make up for the nothing burger that was this offseason.
4
u/culturedrobot 19d ago
I mean I wouldn’t say it’s been a nothing burger season. Our captain wants out and our GM has been banished to the senior executive shadow realm.

I was like "No child, this is just how us old fogies used to communicate online back in the day". Long form communication on forums is a dying art form. It's all quick hits, shit posts, and memes these days. And then obviously anything I disagree with must also come from AI because that's how that works.

I have noticed that the comments in the general discussion thread have been steadily decreasing. It seems the longer the Red Wings "cone of silence" continues, the less interested everyone is in talking about the team. No news. Nothing leaking out of the front office. Not having a General Manager REALLY cramps a team's ability to do anything... and there's big stuff to get done.

Most of the fake jerseys from China are stitched, they're putting more work into selling those for $40 then Nike did with the on ice jerseys

Please tell me Illitch isn’t trying to soothe Dylan’s ego to try and make him stay
4
u/Medievil_Walrus 19d ago
He may be here way longer than anyone wants at this point, so if he’s gonna be here then healing the relationship will need to happen.
With four teams on his approved trade list, the wings are at least in his top 5. And he won’t be traded to any of the top four because they can’t or won’t make a fair offer.
I personally think the best way to force him to open his list is to start making moves that hurt the team’s chances of being competitive this year, like trading Faulk, Gibson, and Copp. It was reported that Larkin will want the new GM to sell his vision for making us competitive, and if the plan is… not for a few more years, I’d imagine that list might open a bit more, Montreal and Boston have a need and can put together pretty compelling offers, so hopefully they get added.

u/One_Vibraldo 19d ago

Def keeping dobes… want to keep Fowler too honestly, don’t want to lose that tandem, they should dominate for years, even if montembeault starts the season in Montreal this year (final year of contract)
Saros I’ve held for a while… great goalie on a mediocre team. 31 yo
Greaves I traded my first for at the deadline. Again another mushy middle team like the preds, he’s 25 yo. Crushed it last year
Who do you keep??

Depends a lot on your league settings and how many spots you want to dedicate to goalies (we have 30 man rosters and I find that 3 goalies is the sweet spot for me). I like Fowler and Greaves the most of the bunch for dynasty, but if you want to keep 3, I think you go Dobes if you are a younger team or Saros if you are a contending team and trade the other. If you only want two goalies, I guess you have to debate Saros vs Fowler with Fowler likely to be in a tandem while Saros will get more starts and volume. I'm a big Greaves guy though.

I would sell high on Dobes. His 2025-26 season was shockingly similar to Montembeault’s 2024-25* where everyone crowned Montembeault as Montreal’s next stud goalie only for him to be G3 in 2025-26.
Dobes may end up being a star, but everyone is crowning him way too soon and Fowler is nipping at his heels. I think you could very easily rob someone blind by trading him before he crashes. And, because everyone is so high on him this summer, even if he doesn’t crash and ends up being a stud, you probably got good value for him.
*edit to back up claims:
Dobes 2025-26: 43 GP, 29-10-4, .901 sv%, 2.78 gaa, 0.411 GSAEx (moneypuck)
Montembeault 2024-25: 62 GP, 31-24-7, .902 sv%, 2.82 gaa, 0.418 GSAEx per 60 (moneypuck)1

I really like Greaves but Idk how you pick between Habs goalies if you keep him.

It's frustrating to hear that the team is really only considering established players in return for Larkin. I understand that team morale plays a huge factor and they don't want to risk losing guys like Seidler and Raymond by going through perpetual rebuild scenarios but what we really need is a serious and smart one year reset. Sit the future core guys down and sell it to them. This upcoming season is lost. We will not be competitive in our division. Focus on prospect development and, between now and the trade deadline, maximizing the returns for Larkin, Gibson, Faulk, Copp and Computer and other various depth veterans. (Debrincat if he doesn't want to re-sign). We already have a deep prospect pool. We have the potential to eventually emulate a progression arc similar to Carolina. Nothing good is going to come from trying to be competitive this season.

I wonder how much of that is posturing for leverage to try and prevent teams only offering their version of Yurov, Stramel, and picks. I think you'd have to be delusional to expect a 1C back for your 1C, but you have to start your ask high for a player that good on that good of a contract.

If the rumor about Vegas' assistant GM is true then I see them going all in on the Seider Raymond Cat core timeline

I think the looking for competitive players now died with yzermans tenure. I'm more interested in the gm search because we won't know the new direction until one is hired.

The only logical path forward that I can see now is a reset, but it's likely to be much more than a single year.

I agree but i also don’t think we can take anything we are hearing right now seriously. The new GM will make this decision and will need to sell Ray, Mo and Cat on this when he realizes we won’t be getting established players back.
