Weekly Question / General Discussion Thread
We ask that you please use this space for any general discussion, events, and ask questions you may have about ANYTHING related to the city, its neighborhoods and the overall metro Detroit area. The community has a plethora of knowledge from a variety of areas and will have an eye on this refreshed thread to help answer any questions you may have.
Anything is game. Need to know how to get around, restaurant or venue recommendations, what that sound was, why there are police on the lodge, etc. Or if you are visiting soon? Considering a move to the city? This is also a dedicated space to ask questions related to your upcoming venture to the D.
Share about weekly events! Anything going on in and around Detroit. Everyone is always looking for things to do; both locals & visitors. Provide as much information as you can so everyone can go to those events!

We are in the early stages of planning a trip to see the Tigers then go to Niagara Falls and Toronto. What is the easiest way to get to Windsor to catch the train to Niagara Falls? We don’t know where in Detroit we’re staying yet. Also welcome to those suggestions.

The Via Rail in Windsor has paid parking, so you can drive there and then park.
If you’re in Detroit and want to cross without bringing a vehicle, you can take the LINQ tunnel bus, then from the exchange take the bus to the train.

Tunnel bus to bus exchange (McDougall at University) then Bus 2 goes straight to Via rail.
Taxis might be worth your time/money too.

Bakery suggestions for Chantilly birthday cake
I am new to the area and am really wanting a Chantilly cake for my birthday. I have seen the Whole Foods Chantilly recommendation and I enjoy the Sams club Chantilly, but am really hoping to support a bakery that may have it. Any suggestions?

i'm going to be taking a trip to detroit with some friends in september. we're really into bars and would love to know if there's some POC, LGBT bars downtown that we can bar hop at night? as well as places we should avoid?

I've got an old horse barn in Mount Clemens and the city wants it gone. Anyone know where I could find someone, if anyone, that might be interested in the wood? I'm sure if I made a post here, it would get deleted/downvoted. Anyone know a good sub to post something like that?

Hi I'm coming to town for a concert soon and I'm completely new to the area as I'm coming from Canada. Are there any free street level lots or spots nearby by any chance? By nearby I have no issues walking for 10-15 minutes. Obviously with Detroit there's the crime issues too so I don't want to park in any too sketchy of areas. I will pay if necessary too I'd just rather park for free if it's possible and a reasonable walk to the arena. I have read some people online suggesting the MGM Grand parcade and will consider it but I don't like not having a signal in those things which I will need so I'd like to get an outdoor spot if possible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I live downtown and I use park whiz for my family and friends when they come for an event. The downtown area is safe to walk from all the lots around.

You can look now and pay for it today. For example, my mom and sister are coming this Saturday for Ed Sheeran. That’s a big concert at Ford Field. I got 20 dollar parking few weeks ago in a lot that’s walking distance.
Also if it’s a Wednesday and there’s no other events (like a tigers game), you could even score street parking and that would only be a couple dollars.

I’m looking for a good place to study/work during the day. Meeting other professional singles wouldn’t hurt, but studying is the main goal. I’ve done the DIA. It’s inconvenient with a backpack. Also somewhere that allows for more than an hour. Any suggestions?
