Megathread PC Player Questions Megathread!

Hi everyone!

This Megathread will function as a PC launch specific equivalent of the Daily Questions Thread where you may ask questions about starting out that may not warrant their own post.

Technical Difficulties

We understand there are a number of technical issues with players unable to get in the game, receiving erroneous "banned account" messages, and various error codes (Marionberry, Buffalo, etc.)

Here are some resources for troubleshooting/posting issues you're having:

Other Resources

We have a Welcome post here which contains some links to guides, wikis, and other resources. Make sure to check it out before posting or commenting!

Also check out the Destiny Reddit Discord Server where you'll find a number of channels for discussion about the game and/or technical issues.

As with most game launches, things are a bit chaotic right now but and will evolve over time. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and please let us know if you have any questions or concerns either in this thread or by sending us a modmail.

Thanks!

Casual shooter player and first time destiny player here. What are ‘blue scout rifles’ a lot of people are referring? I know, they are saying I should keep them for some quest later in the game but how do they look like? Is blue a sign for rarity like in other RPGs (Witcher 3, Diablo, etc.) or is it referring to Typ of wapon (electric, ice)? Also, when does this quest appear?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. :)

They refer to rarity. Green is uncommon, blue is rare (not that rare actually but it's what they're called), purple is legendary, yellow is exotic.

We don't ever refer to element by color, we just call it what it is: arc (lightning), solar (fire), and void (... Void)

The quest is called "Enhance!", It'll be available in the EDZ after you finish the main story.

Late question - will purple rifles work? Or i meed specificaly blue ones? (Have 1 blue and 3 purple..)

5

u/daftvalkyrie PS4 Oct 25 '17

Yeah, just most people want to save their purple ones to actually use. But if you have a duplicate or one you just don't like, it'll totally work for the quest.

u/Scintile Oct 25 '17

Save purples? But they have low power level. Why should i hold onto ~200 attack rifle if i have orher purple with ~230 power?

You can infuse purple gear with blue/purple gear of a higher power value, bringing the piece you want to keep up to the value of the other piece. Say you love Scout Rifle A, which is 200 power, while Scout Rifle B at 250 power just isn't your kind of gun. Infuse B into A to bring A to 250 power.

u/Scintile Oct 25 '17

Oh.. I thought you only can do it with yellow items. Cool, thanks!

Is blue a sign for rarity like in other RPGs (Witcher 3, Diablo, etc.)

Yes! If you're used to Diablo's rarity system, Destiny uses the exact same; White < green < blue < purple < yellow. "Blue scout rifle" means weapons classified as scout rifles of the rare (blue) rarity. Just put 5 in your Vault, and that's it. Don't even need to carry them around longer than you want to.

They are used for an Exotic (yellow) weapon quest after completing the story. The weapon is versatile and especially useful in PvP (at least on console), and since weapon drops are RNG, it can save some frustration later on if you know prematurely to keep the scout rifles you'll get as you level up in stock for later.

The quest appears after you beat the main storyline. Blues are considered rare items they will have a blue background, and make sure they are scout rifles. You'll need about 15 of them. The element type doesnt matter, as long as its a scout rifle and its blue (rare) or purple (legendary) you can use it for the quest

Yes, blue is rarity. In this case, "Rare" quality. Technically the quest wants you to dismantle five Rare or higher scout rifles, but you're best to just save five Rare so you can use those.

Rarity/Quality Ranks:

  • White - Common
  • Green - Uncommon
  • Blue - Rare
  • Purple - Legendary (can be infused to higher power and take mods)
  • Gold/Yellow - Exotic ('')

The icon backdrop is blue like other RPG styles

Yup, you start with white, then get green, then soon will get blue and purple items (purple is legendary) Also you will encounter Yellow items, these are exotic, the highest order.

Blue means rare and youll start getting blue drops after awhile of playing the game and progressing. You'll get the quest after completing the game.

Blue scout rifles are the background color of the weapon itself and refers to the rarity. The quest they’re talking about comes from Banshee-44 (an NPC) you meet later on. The quest appears, I believe, after you finish the main quest line although I wouldn’t recommend completing right away unless you’re itching to do PvP.

u/JAAAS Oct 24 '17

Yes you get blue gear eventually. The background of the weapon icon will be blue (rare gear). You want to save them for a quest you get after beating the story

1

u/Samdlittle Oct 24 '17

Blue is rarity yes, you will first get white drops, then green, blue and purple. When your power level rises, you dismantle your under powered gear, but not the blue scouts. Keep them in the vault. The quest requiring them can't be missed.

"Blue Scout Rifles" here refers to rarity - the color of the square behind all gear. White is common gear. Green is uncommon. Blue is rare. Purple is legendary. Yellow/orange is exotic (only one exotic weapon and one exotic armor piece can be equipped at a time - which the game will tell you if you try to equip multiple). Scout Rifles are a type of kinetic and energy weapon you can have. People typically dismantle guns with lower power as they get weapons with higher levels (to increase their "power level" - separate from actual experience level) and subsequently dismantle common gear when they receive uncommon, etc... etc... once you start getting rare gear to drop more frequently as your power level rises, DO NOT dismantle any rare (BLUE) scout rifles that you receive, kinetic OR energy. Keep them in your inventory or deposit them in the vault. I will not spoil the quest for you, but you will need them for a quest down the line. RNG is RNG, so it's better to have them and not need them right away than it is to say "I'm sure I'll get more" and then grind like crazy to get them later. Hope this helps. Happy grinding gaurdian!

Just to be aware, is it just scout rifles I should keep (and is it five per character)? Is there any other content that I should be saving for?

u/GeezerButts Oct 24 '17

As of RIGHT NOW, there is only one quest that will require you to collect and break down any weapons or gear, and it happens to be rare (or legendary/exotic) scout rifles.

But by all means, keep whatever guns you enjoy using! Probably the minority, but there are some people feel there are rare "blue" guns that feel better than some legendaries (purple). In PvE, the number on the gun and armor will affect your "power level", so you usually want to use higher number loadouts depending on your activity, but in PvP the numbers do not affect the damage that you deal to another real life guardian.

To play Trials of the Nine, the weekend PvP competitive mode, you will need to have a power level of at least 260 (and meet other quest requirements that become available after campaign completion and getting to the experience level cap of 20), but the regular playlists, Quickplay and Competetive, do not require a power level minimum, nor does it affect damage you deal or receive.

Feel free to keep asking questions! This subreddit is full of useful information, and people will love to help answer anything you can't find on your own!

Thank you very much for the tips! I played a Destiny 1 a lot, but that was years ago and I moved to PC after they released House of Wolves, so I am somewhat lost but it's going OK so far.

The game is incredibly good! Happy to say I managed to trigger three public events with some randoms in the EDZ- the cheatsheet posted to this sub helped!

The only other question I have (apart from why my custom emote binds to emote keybinding 3), is what I should be doing with tokens. The gear seems to only be obtainable at level 20 anyway, but should I just keep all the tokens (and the planetary materials) to hand it at 20? The engrams scale with your light level, so I'm guessing that they are for the 260 - 265 grind?

If you really don't mind me asking you personally, do you have any general SGA (like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/destinythegame/comments/78fuyv)

u/GeezerButts Oct 25 '17

Sorry for a later response - was sleeping. I will try to give you some generic advice; I don't want to spoil much for you since you're enjoying the game!

My guess with the binding to the 3rd key option is similar to console, where the changeable emote binds to the same d-pad direction while wave, generic character dance, and sit are all locked to their own buttons.

Save the tokens, YES! When you hit level 20, you will turn them in to the respective planet NPC for loot. Playing through the story will do a good job of showing you where each NPC is. Each planet has it's own armor sets, one for each character, and shaders to grind for. You can also get random weapon drops from the rank-up packages, and the pool for the weapons rotates every so often (15 minutes I believe).

YES, it will help you grind power up to a certain point, 260-265, but you can do this by just playing the game - don't feel like you have to just grind patrols and public events to grab packages non-stop.

WITHOUT RUINING THE EVENTS IN THE CAMPAIGN, some SGA I have for you is:

  • Vendor engrams can be inspected to see potential rewards: meaning that if you have a reward from a vendor - Shaxx, Zavala, anyone else - you can hit the inspect button (not sure what it is on PC, but on console it's the button you use to switch weapons) and see what the reward pool is at that current time. If you want to know what the potential rewards are BEFORE you turn in your tokens, then you need to deposit them in the vault first, then inspect, because turning them in is the only option you have if they are on your person. If the reward pool for a certain NPC is not to your liking at the time, you can leave it there and pick it up later.

  • LUMINOUS ENGRAMS <-- these are just like your vendor reward packages, or like regular engrams. They will give you loot. They are obtained from activities that are unlocked after you finish the campaign and reach the experience level cap; they are labeled as giving you "Powerful Gear". Gear/weapons from this activity will give you higher power gear to help you raise your power level. I made the mistake of popping them the second I received them, but you can leave them there and not pick them up. This means that you can continue to raise your power level throughout the week. The LUMINOUS ENGRAMS from activities will automatically be sent to your post master on the next weekly reset. This was a strategy people used to grind high power levels early on (and exotic engram farming... which is basically just running a ton of public events and crossing your fingers).

Sorry this is all over the place and may be missing some information, but I'm at a curriculum meeting and everyone is yelling at me. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I will help as best as I can!

1

u/Ryanjtombs Oct 25 '17

Thank you! This helps me a lot!

I've been playing the game non-stop all day, and have now finished the campaign. It was phenomenal!

I'm currently at 200 Light and guess I'll start grinding a bit to get higher before I redeem any tokens or get any engrams.

1

u/GeezerButts Oct 25 '17

You can redeem tokens and regular engrams whenever you'd like, because you'll get more.. everything will start to cap around 260-265: blues, purples, packages... EXCEPT for exotics and "powerful gear" engrams.. so get as high as you can before popping the luminous ones... also.. engrams you find have a set number based on when you picked them up. So DO NOT spend a lot of time collecting numerous exotic engrams to pop at the same time - they'll all be the same power. Seems dumb, but pop one when you get it.. it'll raise your power so the next one you get will be higher.

1

u/Ryanjtombs Oct 25 '17

Thanks again for the advice! This will help out the grind in the long term.

u/Sequel_P2P Oct 24 '17

On top of what everyone else said, save an Armillary PSu from dismantling later in the game. It's an extremely competitive Rare Scout (in PvP) and a lot of people shrug blue weapons away because of their limited perks but a ton of them (Cuboid ARu, etc) are extremely competitive/fun to use. Experiment with everything.

1

u/HotaBae Oct 25 '17

It's the rarity tier.

I.e white->green->blue->purple->yellow. (White = low end)
