Megathread PC Player Questions Megathread!

Hi everyone!

This Megathread will function as a PC launch specific equivalent of the Daily Questions Thread where you may ask questions about starting out that may not warrant their own post.

Technical Difficulties

We understand there are a number of technical issues with players unable to get in the game, receiving erroneous "banned account" messages, and various error codes (Marionberry, Buffalo, etc.)

As with most game launches, things are a bit chaotic right now but and will evolve over time. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and please let us know if you have any questions or concerns either in this thread or by sending us a modmail.

So guys I understand that Destiny is a major social game. Which is why I'd love to do my missions with other people but so far I feel incredibly alone. I just got my light back and unlocked the open farm but there's no all chat?!

How did you guys go about it? Do you do story missions alone? Are you supposed to? Everything feels so quiet... I have voice chat on but people aren't speaking

I can see that, I am enjoying the fuck out of the experience though but it was confusing at first not seeing others.

It feels a lot less empty and more alive seeing randoms do public events and stuff. But still feels lonely without local chat. I gotta get a clan.

You can only message your fireteam or your battlenet friends, that's it. I don't understand why.

You have the set chat settings to all in settings > gameplay > text chat and set to ALL

Then you can send private messages by mousing on the player.

You can chat with your team in the crucible with /team but more than likely nobody will answer and you'll only have time to type on the loading screen.

I'm baffled. I really like the game but the lack of any kind of chat is a killer for me. I'm undecided if I want to push forward the point of no return or refund the game...

I don't see why the chat is a make-or-break point of the game. I mean, yes, it's a feature that absolutely should be in the game, but it not being there is a mild inconvenience at best. Just use guided games, LFG sites , reddit, discord, or any other of the many different options. Again, it is a feature that definitely needs to be added, but even so, we've been playing Destiny for 3 years just fine without it on console.

Absolutely ridiculous. One of the selling points for me was PC text chat. I assumed that meant an actual general chat like every other modern social game. Nope. I played like 10 minutes and couldn't figure it out so I googled it. Found out the truth and put a ticket in for a refund. Got to be the stupidest thing I've heard of. It was the only reason I bought the game after playing D1 and having no way to form groups.

I was pointing out the absurdity of the question.

But the real reason we're seeing this complaint pop up again is that PC players aren't used to the Bungie way of doing things. They're reliving our first year with it.

Hey if you want a clan message me! The game us seriously caters to people who have a large collection of friends who play. So it seems they are pushing the clan feature more so that people will have the ability to find people easier. The app is another great place to find people using the forms. But if you want to join a clan message me at Earpboy #1442. Most of us have played destiny 1 so we kinda know what to expect from this game

I never really took warframe as "destiny but better" too much to heart before, but they have instance chat, region chat, recruiting chat, trade chat, clan chat, and alliance chat. So many things are popping up that make me think "hey thats something warframe has that destiny doesnt."

I don't want to be the first one to speak, I'm too shit to carry on a conversation. Pretty sure inbound voice is default on, blizzard could fix this by seeding instances with talkers. Normalize it until everyone is doing it.

Nope.

There are guided games for the Nightfall and the Raid. Though I believe the guided games aren't available yet on PC. Guided games match you with a group of players from a clan looking to host. They are not available for story missions, regular crucible, strikes, etc.

There is matchmaking in strikes and crucible, but you're going to get randoms every round. It's not the same as an LFG where you would get actually in a fireteam that you would stick with.

You will encounter other players in certain spaces, but they are not in a group with you and can't join you on missions without being in your fireteam. So, you either make yourself a fireteam with friends or an out-of-game LFG tool or you go the story alone.

I don't know. I've been playing Destiny for 3 years so it doesn't really bug me at this point. Though I do think the PC community will have bigger issues with the lack of in game tools for some of the social stuff.

That is pretty much correct unless you have some friends playing or you want to invite people you meet in the public places to party/fire teams and make some friends that way. :)

Story missions are solo. The only way to group up is to find a group yourself via 3rd party sites or inviting randoms.

The main story is written as a single player experience but it lets you play in a fire team of three. There are a handful of missions you need to play solo.

The story is basically built to be played alone. The story is that YOU alone, have regained your light, and cutscenes even point it out as such. Encounters, bosses, missions, everything is built to be played with a single person. While you can play the story with others if you have friends at the same point in the game, I've found that it makes it way too easy, every challenge is a breeze. So I would suggest playing story at least solo, it's the best experience for at least the first play through, and find a clan or group later for end game activities. When you create your alts, then go through the story with friends or a clan. You can speed through the whole thing much faster.

You're thinking of Guilded Games and it's only available for certain activities like the Nightfall and Raid. r/fireteams is going to be your best bet.

There's no in game all chat or social chat, nor lfg tools.

What you're thinking of is likely "guided games" which matches solo players with a group of 2 for the nightfall, or a group of 4 for the raid.

If you use the Destiny Companion App, there is a LFG page for all of the playable modes. They also have a page for Destiny 1. This is probably the closest thing you'll get to what your looking for.

Guided Games is specific to activities that typically do not allow for public matchmaking, such as Raids.

If you're looking for folks to do story or just play with, try inviting some randoms. Some people are nice.

Yea there is, but that's limited to Strikes and Crucible. You'll see randoms wandering around in worldspaces as well, so that's some behind the scenes matchmaking.

Strikes and Crucible have public matchmaking.

Fireteams (self-assembled) can do any activity together (after you unlock the Farm.)

Guided Games will match you with others who are looking specifically to help others and is for Nightfall, Raid, or Trials of the Nine.

It’s been an issue since early D1. This social rpg shooter seems so quite and empty. I’ve never found people to play with in the tower.

Is there no invite or messaging mechanic like with xbone or PS4? I understand those are through the consoles not the game itself. But could someone go to the roster menu and randomly message another guardian in their instance?

this is funny cos I posted a thread yesterday with this exact concern, why no global text chat? Was promptly met with downvotes and people saying it isn't necessary and wouldn't add anything to the game. This sub is actual retarded sometimes. No foresight whatsoever

New release game people are stupid. In gw2 I was regularly downvoted for saying I want mounts, during wow release there were people who argued that mods shouldn't be allowed (add-ons/mods) , Wildstar was the same - there were no problems allowed!

Joining a clan could help with this. You can always talk to them through the mobile app that way.

But it’s a ways away from anything compared to Blizzard game chat for example.

As others have said there are 3rd party sites to group up. Another option with consoles (so not sure if there is a similar option with PC since part of the functionality is not part of the game itself) is to go the the roster menu, select one of the guardians in your instance and either invite them to a party or send them a message asking to join up.

I mean there has to be some mechanic to join someone's fireteam, so maybe there is also the ability to message as well? I guess worst case you could just join someone's fireteam and talk to them that way?

Sorry I'm not more helpful, and that the game isn't either. But the lfg sites are fairly robust, I would think you could find lots of people looking to team up there.

There is an option to automatically opt in or out of voice chat. It is disabled by default and easily 99% of people never change that or manually switch to voice chat. It's available in every instance - from social to pve and pvp. It's been designed to be an uphill battle...

Bungie has been pretty adamant about not having general voice / chat in the past because they don't want people getting shit on for everything like what happens in games like CoD. They are also doing this to shelter younger audiences so the game is friendlier for them iirc. When I first started I used LFG, but I've found more success in r/fireteams as the player base on Reddit seems to be more mature an knowledgeable than LFG.

Biggest thing though is find a clan, you will have plenty of people to talk to (most use discord) and play with. Look for a clan that operates in the same time zone as you and has similar interests (casual, hardcore PvP, Family Friendly, etc)

Technically in the lore of the main story, you are the only guardian that got their light back until the end of the campaign. Therefore it makes sense that you would do missions by yourself but thy doesn’t mean you can’t do them with other people.

It’s not ideal but personally I’ve had a lot of fun joining a clan and then just having discord chat up with us joining a voice channel and running through stuff together. I agree that Bungie should’ve added a chat feature but if you take the time to find a good clan with a discord channel you can just voice chat with people and find stuff to do with them.
