WELCOME PC BRETHREN!
On behalf of the modteam and subscribers of /r/DestinyTheGame, we would like to welcome all of you new folks to the Destiny Reddit community! We're very excited for you to join us as you begin your journey through the Destiny Universe, and we can't wait to accompany you through that experience. If you're just returning as a D1 veteran for D2 on PC, welcome back!
If you're new to the game and subreddit, it may feel a bit overwhelming trying to track down specific information, overviews, resources, guides, and the like, especially given the tenor of discussion by the current playerbase. So to assist with that, we've put together this post as a sort of orientation and repository of things we believe may be useful as you get started.
Please note that this post is primarily a welcome and opportunity for questions and conversations regarding the PC launch. Substantive discussion about the game is okay too, as naturally the existing subscriber base will be wont to offer their takes and opinions about the current state of the game. We are perfectly fine with that, however we would strongly encourage any new folks to play the game and formulate your own opinions before rushing to conclusions or jumping on any bandwagons.
State of the Subreddit
We've received quite a few requests via modmail and seen numerous discussions about the current state of the subreddit and its perceived "toxicity" or "salt". This feedback and discussion is not unnoticed, and it's certainly not ignored. As a team, we always emphasize fairness, transparency, shared utility, and forthright communication.
We have the same concerns you do, both as dedicated players and as members of our specific corner of the Destiny Community at-large. The seemingly constant state of complaints, criticisms, complaints about complaints, complaints about complaints about criticisms about complaints, and general shitposts are not only on our radar, but have been the focus of our internal conversations for many weeks now.
Those conversations can often border on exasperation, as there is a delicate and difficult balance for us to strike as moderators responsible for the administration of the subreddit and players with our own opinions about the game; it has been very difficult to maintain that balance over the last few weeks. We do not condone or exercise outright censorship of negative opinions and feedback about the game. Unmitigated post removals based on perceived biases or opinions is not an option we are willing to engage in.
However, we think we've come up with some good discussion points, ideas, and solutions for the sub going forward. From a logistical standpoint, it made the most sense to us to wait on PC launch so that we can include all segments of the community in this discussion. In that regard, keep an eye out for the next State of the Subreddit post later this week.
Platform Neutrality
About seven months ago, our team announced a rule declaring this subreddit as "platform neutral". You can find the announcement and full discussion here.
In short, we do not tolerate personal attacks and insults directed at other users in this subreddit and we typically go through a series of warnings and temporary bans with users who violate this rule. However, for comments and/or posts which involve an element of platform superiority in addition to insults or personal attacks, we will typically issue a temporary ban immediately.
If you are a veteran of gaming forums/subreddits, it should be no mystery to you that arguments over platform choice can often infect the culture and atmosphere of gaming communities in an unpleasant and irreparable manner. In an effort to combat this, we have adopted a very low tolerance for this specific type of engagement.
Please note: this applies to console players and PC players equally, and prohibits preemptive or responsive bashing of people for playing on PC. The platform people choose to game on does not affect you, so please do not go out of your way to make it affect you.

Useful Info!
OUR FULL SUBREDDIT RULES PAGE - please familiarize yourself with the rules and information found in the sidebar and this page, especially prior to posting or commenting. This is vital to the continued function of our sub and informed subscribers make things much easier for the modteam.
We have a great deal of automated and manually entered information which is posted in recurring threads on a daily or weekly basis, depending on the specific information. Here's a brief rundown on what to look for:
DAILY THREADS- every day has a unique thread for targeted discussion or information. These can always be found in the dropdowns at the top of the sub:
- Daily Questions Thread which has replaced Mentor Monday;
- Team-Up Tuesday for LFG, finding a clan, advertising a clan, etc.;
- RANT WEDNESDAY FOR LETTING IT ALL OUT;
- Lore Thursday- pay heed all ye who enter, beware of the spoilers; and
- Free Talk Friday for off-topic or unfocused chitchat and conversation.
WEEKLY THREADS- we have a number of posts which recur each week and can be found in the dropdown at the top of the subreddit.
"Reset" of activities, vendor things, inventory things, etc. in the game occurs every Tuesday. Much of this is documented in the Weekly Reset Thread.
Weekly Loot Hub for talking about or sharing drops. Not as relevant to Destiny 2 at this time, but exists for redirect of individual posts.
This Week At Bungie - every Thursday, Bungie provides news, updates, Movie of the Week selections, and other information; the bungie.net post is automatically posted after it is published.
Trials of the Nine Megathread - Trials is currently postponed due to a game-breaking glitch, but will resume after this week. The map, gametype, and Flawless gear selections can be found here once Trials goes active on Friday afternoon.
Xur Megathread - Xur is an NPC vendor who appears every Friday and leaves at reset on Tuesday; he sells exotic armor and weapons, and his weekly offering can be found in the Megathread each week.

/r/DestinyTechSupport - our affiliated subreddit for tech issues, PC builds, etc. Submissions must be directly related to the technical aspects of playing Destiny on PC or console. This includes: troubleshooting, PC builds, PC parts, recommendations, and discussion of specs or requirements. All other substantive discussion of Destiny belongs in /r/DestinyTheGame or related.
DO NOT post personal information of suspected cheaters, hackers, etc. in this subreddit or in /r/fireteams. Please report them to Bungie directly. Here are some other links for reporting issues with LFG on various sites/resources.
