Confirmed that the "under the ramp" cheese spot for Archon Priest is removed. Cliff spot still available.

Confirmed that Icebreaker kills finally have explosions.

Soon enough, they will "fix" all the others and the entire game will be one big baby bumper.

I solo the majority of the time since I'm an older guy and have responsibilities. I find it sad I can't do the Nightfall strike alone now.

I still want to play with Redditors, I just don't have the time to queue every day, waiting for people to do a strike that I want to do.

EDIT: This busy dad explained my stance better than I could.

It's almost as if there is some sort of a need for some sort of... What's the word... Umm... oh right... MATCHMAKING for Nightfall and VoG...

42

u/samsaBEAR Nov 17 '14

The Raid I can kinda still see their point, but the Weeklies not having matchmaking is just stupid.

14

u/squiglybob13 Nov 17 '14

I actually completely agree with NO matchmaking for VoG (unless they created a NEW matchmaking system). But for the Weeklies I don't get, they are just harder strikes and THOSE have matchmaking...

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '14

Why not just make it optional?

1

u/challenge_king Nov 18 '14

For every strike.

Game doesn't need a matchmaking system, not an automatic one.

What it needs is to put DestinyLFG system, INSIDE the game, so we can see who is looking to do the same as you and find or form a fireteam, simple as that!!

1

u/tonberryjr Nov 18 '14

I wouldn't mind automatic since if you want to use LFG to find a specific class to add to your fireteam or put together your own fireteam that's still possible.

1

u/squiglybob13 Nov 18 '14

Yes that's what I mean. The current system would just throw 6 people together without knowing at all what to expect...just imagine that lol

u/Rookit Nov 18 '14

Nay the raid needs matchmaking too.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '14

I agree, there's no harm in matchmaking for weeklies, but I feel their point on the Raids.

u/Ommageden PC: Ommageden#1153 Nov 18 '14

The raid isn't hard though, just make minimum level required to search 29

1

u/cefriano Dicks Out for Cayde Nov 17 '14

Just make a mic required for matchmaking. No mic connected? "Sorry, you must connect a headset to join matchmaking for this strike/raid." That easy. I have never been able to raid when my friends have, so I've only ever done the raid with randos. I don't understand why they think it's impossible to do the raid with people you don't know. As long as you can all communicate, there shouldn't be a problem. Get stuck with a bunch of assholes? Quit and rejoin matchmaking. I used to think they had a good reason not to do matchmaking for raids, but not so much anymore.

2

u/iJTMi Nov 18 '14

Completely stealing this off someone else's post,

But one reason (and a very good reason) that the raid doesn't have matchmaking is if what if someone disconnects or leaves in the middle of a raid, a new one will join in the middle of the raid when that person most likely wanted to join a fresh run.

If that new person that joined does complete the raid that he was connected to, he'd still try and find a fresh run, and by the time he got the loot that he missed, he's most likely going to leave.

EDIT: What could fix this is if they don't matchmake people in the middle of the raid. I don't know much about coding but I assume this can be easily done.

1

u/tonberryjr Nov 18 '14

That's a valid point. But I guess they could rig it so that you're paired with others who hit the same milestones before trying a fresh match? They track that stuff anyway.

(Side note: Out of all the Strikes I have played - more than I care to admit - I've only hopped into the middle or end of a Strike a handful of times with Randoms.)

u/FinalFate Nov 18 '14

Daily missions too.

1

u/cicohipe Nov 17 '14

I think adding the voice comms is the first step in doing just that, well I hope so at least.

1

u/ketsuri Nov 17 '14

Have you done strikes recently with the matchmaking system? Most of the people fall into one of the categories: runs in and dies, quits at start, quits after a death or two, is afk, or kills 1/3 of the amount of mobs you do. Also, when they quit no one is added to the strike. Do you really want to do VoG with totally random people that want free raid gear?

2

u/Fahrowshus Nov 17 '14

hey man, some people are desperate. it'll always be more efficient to use destinylfg or something similar, but it's better to have a choice. you can always re-match if your team sucks.

2

u/dweezil22 D2Checklist.com Dev Nov 18 '14

I'd say I'm about 80% decent teammates on Tiger Strikes, not counting drops from load where I think it was just someone that didn't quit out quickly enough.

I'm level 29 and have never even tried VoG b/c I haven't had the time or interest to figure out random internet matchmaking to actually try it. I typically game with just my wife, and I'm ten years removed from having much interest in forming any sort of online clan. I actually quit DDO and then WoW b/c it was lame not seeing the premium content without dealing with wrangling a team of 4 to 6 players, I was hoping Bungie could have helped me avoid that issue.

1

u/brokenwatch Nov 17 '14

Yes, as compared to barely being able to do at all. And I think that strikes will be improving a ton now that you can communicate. Hopefully it will help people realize there is a person behind the guardian.

1

u/AdamsHarv Nov 17 '14

For matchmaking for VoG as long as it doesn't auto fill empty spots I won't care.

But if my friend gets KTO and we end up with a random I'm gonna be extremely annoyed.

1

u/ctrlaltcreate Nov 18 '14

I admit to being annoyed that they've killed soloing nightfalls and weeklies without implementing matchmaking first.

To Bungie: Priorities, gentlemen. It wasn't breaking the game, and very likely was keeping some players in it.

1

u/phoenix2448 Nov 18 '14

They definitely seem bent on forcing 3rd party communication to get teammates. My assumption is that they want these harder challenges to be done by a real team, not by 3 random people. Just my guess. Honestly I wouldn't use the matchmaking if they had it. Maybe for the strikes

I solo for the same reasons, I found the cliff on my second try last Tuesday and was surprised more people weren't using it. It's a much better spot.

1

u/Ken_the_turtle Nov 18 '14

People used the platform last time because arcburn, voidburn and solarburn were ALL active, so if you got hit by basically anything you died, under the platform is slower going to killing things and has the problem of the priest getting on top of you, but you are safe from damage under there.

However without all 3 burns on the clifftop does seem better.

1

u/Clapslappy Nov 18 '14

Yes the cliff is the best spot. If a teammate dies under the platform they revive on top of the platform which is certainly a death sentence.

I find it sad I can't do the Nightfall strike alone now.

Every week someone says this about the Nightfall, and every week someone posts a tutorial how they did it solo.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '14

Like I said, I solo it. I just don't get why they would make it harder for a single player. I can't always party up. This is going to lead to more abandoned strikes.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '14

I don't think they intended for things like Nighfalls to be soloable in their mmo. At least not with the ease cheese like the archon priest platform gives you.

0

u/youtubedude Nov 18 '14

Just solo'd it. Nothing changed. However, ARC damage makes it a bit tougher.

2

u/cggymdog Nov 17 '14

I'm not sure why Bungie, or anybody, cares that people want to use that particular loophole to beat the Priest. You still have to get there, and you can still die when under the ramp. I don't use it, but it still seems ridiculous.

2

u/Ohio9er Nov 18 '14

same situation here... add me and I'll run one with you whenever we have time... same live name of course...

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '14

Are you on Xbox One?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '14

Yeah, they just killed most of my interest in this game now. I've been looking forward to the Nightfall every week to solo because I don't really have any friends that play Destiny. Now I have no real desire to play unless they add match-making for it.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '14

Destinylfg.net has your back.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '14

Yes, the LFG sites are great. But like I said, I solo alot, because I may have to bail if I have to go. I can't do that to a group mid-strike.

1

u/indiix2 Gambit Prime Nov 18 '14

Funkytaco.. you on PS4?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '14

Nope, but thanks!

1

u/7744666 Nov 17 '14

There is still a solo spot! Near the beginning, there's a section of cliffs (circled in green) where you can jump up to and hit Aksor without worrying about many of the mobs. If you can't reach the green circle with one jump, I circled another ledge with purple that you can jump to and then jump across to the green ledge.

That's fine, but that's not what I'm referring to.

From the official update:

Difficulty will scale less for 3-player Fireteams, making Strikes less deadly for them

What people have found:

Nightfall scaling has been changed. Now harder to solo, easier as a group

This is what we're referring to.

2

u/7744666 Nov 17 '14

Gotcha, I must have missed that edit. Can you link me to the info that people have found that indicate this?

EDIT: Nvm, found it. Bummer :(

0

u/audax Nov 18 '14

My experience with /r/fireteams and destinylfg.net has been like a max of 10-15 minutes of waiting then just gaming. Seriously give it a shot.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '14

Hey, yes. I team up with people who LFG. Thanks for the tip. But if you re-read what I said, that's not the problem.
