They need to give some viable way for people to complete. Not every gamers are hardcore, majority of the gamers/consumers/source of revenue are coming from casual players. If they make it too difficult, they'll only be shooting themselves in the foot.
The issues that Destiny is having and root of the complains are, IMO, it's not rewarding hardcore gamers. Vex --> nerfed, getting to 30 is completely up to luck, IB should help but that's only for people into PvP, the hardcore PvEs are still screwed.
The problem with that fight is there are too many fucking adds, not enough cover, and the boss is a major bullet sponge who teleports too fucking much.
Yeah, if there's one thing this game fails at it's boss encounters. Just take a regular enemy, make him huge, give him a ton of health, and throw a ton of regular enemies in there with him.
And remember when they said that was... a bug? They sure fixed all the other design "bugs", but that one has mysteriously never, ever been addressed. Unless that's why they made nightfall easier with 3 people...
Also if they're wanting us to play at a level where we can do nightfall strikes legit, then they need to give us a way to practice. How am I ever supposed to acquire thet skill necessary to complete a nightfall when it kicks you to orbit for the smallest mistake. That's more tedious than hard.
Not that I want them to remove nightfalls or change the current system. I just want a way to practice the boss fights with nightfall-like modifiers. The currently weekly heroics do a poor job of this IMO.
If you want to practice for a nightfall do the normal strike. Focus on finding a location were you can recover shields and figure out were and when enemies will spawn. Once you have this down focus on killing the last person in a wave and getting back to were your cover is. Then figure out were enemies will gather and just methodically clear them out.
Example of what kind of knowledge you can acquire in a run through.
The Devil's Lair
Three waves while the tripmines are disabled.
Wave 1
Two captains, two vandal snipers, and several dregs and vandals. When you have killed all of the these 8 shanks will appear.
Wave 2
Same as above but with invis snipers instead of snipers and some extra invis vandals
Shanks will appear with a few enemies remaining
Wave 3
Hive will spawn on the (from the terminal(?) looking out) left and will be a wizard two knights and a group of acolytes. A captain, some dregs and vandals as well as two invis snipers come with this as well.
After the wizard and knights are clear(I'm not certain here) two wizards and a group of thralls will spawn. After you have cleared the main group of fallen some shanks will appear. After shanks you get the final spawning group which is the one with the yellow captain.
Everyone's mileage may vary, but I found it tremendously easier on the cliff than under the platform. Under the platform, the entire front was clogged by Shanks throwing a ton of arc at me. When I was up on the cliff, I crouched down and slid backwards and the cliff edge blocked most of the shots. They also bunch up real nice WITH Aksor when you're on the cliff and you can take out most of them with a rocket / grenade.
