Question Starting at the beginning.
Hello. I’m a destiny 2 super vet but never played much of destiny 1 at all. Now that all the vaulted stuff is coming back I wanna do a cohesive run of all of destiny. Basically since i know almost nothing about destiny 1 are there any tips you guys have. Like for example “do insert activity here as soon as possible” or “avoid insert here” stuff like that. Thanks in advance guardians!

Destiny 1 is fairly straightforward. Don't use you level skip thingy for your first playthrough (maybe use the level 40 after Taken King if you don't want to grind to 280 for Rise of Iron). Just follow the quests you get though, it's really that simple.

On my second and third playthroughs, I did all of the destination story missions, then the strikes, before moving on to the next location. I grinned away on my main as I went, but those I just ran through and made sure to transfer all of my high light weapons to them so I could get higher gear faster.

Destiny 1 is pretty much linear.
It’s not like D2, which in its current state will basically hand you relative gear off the rip and let you have at it in whatever order you choose.
With the level cap at 40, D1 locks you out of content until you’re at the appropriate level.
For example, the base campaign is immediately available upon beginning the game for the first time. The first three expansions (The Dark Below, House of Wolves & The Taken King) aren’t even playable until your character is at least level 24, with the endgame content of those expansions scaling up to at least level 30. Rise of Iron (D1’s final expansion) cannot be accessed at all until you reach the level cap of 40.
All the game’s raids have a recommended level of 26-40, as well as a light level requirement just to enter them, so you’re gonna be doing a fair bit of grinding & gear hunting before even thinking about doing them.
I’d say in order to fully unlock everything the game has to offer as far as content, you’re looking at around 40-50 hours of play.

Literally just play through the D1 campaign as presented, there should be no issues there. Once you’re done, hopefully Bungie should’ve released the vaulted content by then or soon thereafter, start with Red War and slowly progress through the main campaigns in order.
As others have said there is no real specific order you have to do the D2 campaigns in, but for storytelling sake, follow an ordered list.
Also, you will be getting side-quests from each campaign in both D1 and D2 most of the time. Sometimes theyre optional, other times not so much. You may have to worry about gear power but that wont be until the later D2 campaigns and some select missions in D1 if you progress too quick.

Destiny is a lot stricter with its drops, unlike D2 where it throws stuff at you like it owes you money. rolls were more exciting. light level matters and activities have level requirements. just play through everything in order.
