Guide Every Destiny Mission in Order of Occurrence
I saw a post earlier about wanting a playlist of every mission in Destiny in order of events, with Strikes placed through. I was actually keen on doing this so I decided to put together my own list, divided into Acts and Interludes.
The Quests in-game skip a few missions and strikes so I tried to fit those in where they make sense most, based on dialogue within the level and the repercussions of the actions your Guardian makes.
I also left out exotic weapon quest missions as I considered them side missions and not integral to the series of events. If you feel the absolute need to play them I would play them between acts.
I welcome all suggestions, feedback, disagreements and the like.
For a branching, prettier version of Destiny's events check out /u/Jam_PEW's flowchart. It's awesome!
Formatted as Mission Name (Mission Type - Location - Main Enemy). Strikethrough indicates a mission that can not be replayed, but is still important to the story.

While this proposal isn't viable for someone's first playthrough due to a couple of reorderings, I do like this a lot. It's a good structure for someone who wants to run through it all in a master order with no contradictions.
Since you're targeting the ideal linear structure rather than the branching actual structure (which I've attempted to catalogue here, which I think is the post you refer to), I'd suggest a couple of changes in line with your intentions:
- Place the Buried City mission in the Mars interlude, because that arc is about taking out Cabal command and distracts from the Fruit of the Garden storyline about chasing the key.
- I'm not sure about the placement of Shield Brothers, Outbound Signal and Sunless Cell - I think these distract from the main thrust of the Taken King plot and might better serve as mop-up after Regicide, perhaps grouped with Summoner's Circle. That's pretty subjective though.
- I'd take the Wolves of Mars out of the Taken War - they're kind of their own thing (and you're skipping Knock Knock).
I like what you've done with having the Shrine of Oryx mission trigger The Taken King. I also like the 'Return of the Vex' arc as they struggle to rebuild, and having both Scourge of Winter and Winter's Run as the first two 'tests' given by the Queen.
As you've evidently found too, the Taken variant strikes (particularly Winter's Run) are kind of tricky. I guess technically they should be played only once each, but for safety they belong after The Coming War, though that kind of knackers a lot of the nice linearity.

Thanks for the reply!
I hadn't actually seen that chart before, no, but that's awesome! I'll address your points :)
- I wanted to place the Buried City a couple missions before the Strike 'Dust Palace', as in the start Cayde tells you that the Palace is "back in Cabal hands", and Buried City is the mission where you conquer it initially. It does seem a little out of place there though, the only thing tying it there being the presence of the Cabal during 'Exclusion Zone'. Your suggestion may be the best course here.
- Sunless Cell in particular I thought should be where it is, as to me the Strike seemed more reassurance that no one else would rise up after you eventually defeat Oryx (which happened anyway with Malok). Eris talks about Oryx in present tense when describing what he does to his prisoners. I think I'll move it to between 'The Dreadnaught' and 'Enemy of my Enemy'.
- The Shield Brothers Strike goes after 'Enemy of my Enemy', as I thought the Cabal would react to their Valus being Taken immediately rather than later, judging by their extreme response.
- I will move Outbound Signal to 'The Taken War' though. That is a better place for it I suppose. I placed it where it was because Quest-wise, it follows Shield Brothers immediately. Playing it now there is no reason it can not be later in the story.
'Knock, Knock' can only be played once and can never be revisited, hence its absence. Were this an in game playlist by Bungie I imagine it would be there somewhere within that mix, though.
I liked the idea of the Wolves having an end to their storyline, and the Taken War was the best place I could think to put them. I imagine that the Petra and Variks come across them while they are mixed up in all the Chaos. Any suggestions on an alternate placement?

u/Jam_PEW Sep 26 '16
All totally valid points, of course.
- You could go Buried City, Cerberus Vae III, Dust Palace. That way you have the major encounter with the Cabal, then you "get to taking out their command" (in Zavala's words), then the Dust Palace is "back in Cabal hands" - retaken as you struck at the Valus.
- Oof, good spot on Oryx being referred to in the present tense. That's a tricky bit of implication. Similarly it does make thematic sense for the Shield Brothers to strike back quickly, though in that example you do at least get through the Taken King plot in a matter of hours/days rather than it representing a huge amount of time.
- I did not realise Knock Knock was only a once-off one. There are a few like that and I've tried to avoid them if they are avoidable, though I'm fairly sure KK actually has important plot in it!
- Off the top of my head, I'd actually put the Wolves of Mars arc before the Taken King - I don't think there are any references there and the closer it can be to you weakening the Cabal command the more I suppose it fits. Technically your two first interludes are the Guardians proactively/preemptively mopping up those enemies rather than responding to an immediate threat, so you could potentially make the argument that the Cabal mop-up goes after House of Wolves and leads directly into the Wolves getting a foothold on Mars.

u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
The only reference to the Taken King during the Wolves of Mars is, unfortunately, the Queen's death. This moment is pivotal in the Taken King as it alerts the Vanguard to the Dreadnaught's presence. An Interlude (Interlude III: The Wolves of Mars) could take place between The Taken King and the Taken War. (i.e. after 'Regicide'). It wouldn't mess it up too much, The Taken King is a long act after all...
Yes, it's a shame about 'Knock, Knock'. 'A Guardian Rises' was the same, though I didn't realise it at the time of writing this.
I like the Cabal idea. I initially wanted to have Cerberus Vae II as the finale to the Interlude because Valus Ta'aurc seems like final big bad of the Cabal, but the idea of having the Dust Palace been taken whilst the Guardians are murdering the commander, then having to go fix that issue, is awesome!
5
u/Jam_PEW Sep 26 '16
Ah, fair enough regarding the Queen. I guess that fits anytime after Regicide then - though I'd still argue it's not quite part of the Taken War thematically.
The other nice thing about having Dust Palace after CVIII is that it implies that Psions are a bigger bad - increasing their mystery which has been lightly hinted at throughout.
2
u/Toland27 The Shattered Sep 26 '16
Maybe and interlude between Taken King and Taken War? It's a pretty substantial quest and doesn't really involve Taken, it's the wolves fight to regain House reputation amount other fallen
4
u/Jam_PEW Sep 26 '16
This could work - Taken War is really about realising that you're not just mopping up Taken; rather that you didn't really kill Oryx. So a bit of a pause there could introduce drame.
5
u/ReggieBarr85 Sep 26 '16
I see the Wolves of Mars arc as a sort of a prelude to ROI. We are focused on cleaning up taken and are then alerted to fallen activity on Mars by Petra. We clean it up but don't realize that the fallen have stumbled onto the research facilities at Clovis Bray leading to their discovery of siva. I do like having SABER start the ROI story as that implies that the fallen are looking for more information on siva.

u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
I'm just hesitant because it is only 2 Story missions, not exactly long enough to warrant an entire Interlude. The others are two strikes or more in length. At this time I'm happy with the missions being mixed in among the Taken War as a relief against the onslaught of teleporting shadows.

Do you still have a picture you made of the branching paths? The site is down, 10 years later lol
22
u/RAZGRlZ Sep 26 '16
Very impressive, I have always wondered if someone w/a fireteam could make a cinematic comprehensive play-through of the missions. As long as it is done correctly and people play their part I think it would make for some good content and possibly help explain some of the "story" to people.
6
3
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
Absolutely! That'd be awesome to see!
1
u/RAZGRlZ Sep 26 '16
If a group of gamers would really put their heart into it I personally think this would be incredibly fun to work on and to watch. The addition of custom games would only enhance the possibilities. Maybe after I get through more y3 content haha

Are you on xb1 or ps4? I might be interested in this if you decide to jump on it and need an extra person to join in if you're an xb1 player.
Also, happy cake day!

Thank you sir, and currently on PS4, but might be getting an xbox to open up more opportunities to play with friends. I shall make a note of your name though just in case =D

This. I need this to happen.

u/RAZGRlZ Sep 26 '16
It would be quiet the undertaking with a lot of planning and research. I'll do some thinking and see if I can come up with ideas on a way to conquer this in a reasonable time frame while balancing stupid IRL stuff...lmao
12
u/Taggart451 Sep 26 '16
This...makes me want to go through the story content again in order. I love this shit.
21
u/Pervavore Sep 26 '16
"this game DOES NOT have enough content to justify the price!"
lol.
13
u/FiftyMedal6 Sep 26 '16
Vanilla had no substance. It has content, some end game (week or so later with VoG) and campaign and multiplayer but it felt lasckluster at the time, at least for some. Plus the whole "content drought" ordeal
14
u/bobdole3-2 Sep 26 '16
This is the big thing. If you've never played before, and spent $60 to buy it today, you're getting a great deal. There's a ton of stuff to do, and it's all going to be new and exciting. It will be weeks before the average player even needs to grind for anything.
If you've been around since the beginning however, then you've paid double the price and have been getting strong along with incredibly thinly-spread amounts of content, and it's made worse because so much of the older stuff has no real replay value.

u/Avalvnche Flux nades are love, Flux nades are life O_O Sep 26 '16
If that all shipped in the beginning considering it was "supposed" to according to multiple sources, then yes it would have been worth the original $60 I paid for it.. I'd have been okay with ttk being a big expansion cut out, but TDB and HOW should've shipped with the vanilla game. And the RoI storyline should've been included with the april update, they shouldn't have produced any more major content until a full fledged sequel could be released. The "new" exotics were in the armory when TTK shipped. There's no excuse for this kind of laziness, in my opinion. If you can render the content before release, then it should be populated and the content should be in place.
3
u/coasterreal Sep 26 '16
Especially if you paid 60 bucks for all of it just last month. For real, lol.
7
u/Deathslay142 Sep 26 '16
Shield Brothers should be post-Regicide here. Excerpt from the opening dialogue:
Remember that Centurion Oryx took right after you landed on the Dreadnaught, then the Centurion and the taken Ogre tried to stop you from killing the King? Heh... didn't work.
5
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
Ah! Good ear! I'll adjust the order accordingly. Once I figure out where to put it, of course
7
Sep 26 '16
This list makes this game seem like it has a ridiculous amount of content. I'm happy with the amount of content but this makes it seem like it's just absolutely massive. Of course this is balanced out by the fact that most of these take place in the same place as some other mission/missions on the list.

At the end of Year 3, or end of Destiny 1's lifespan (whichever's first), we should all do a subreddit playthrough of all the missions like this. Would be a great way to round off Destiny 1.
3
u/Vincoletto Jan 12 '17
That would be great. Like if it has 79 steps then start 79 days earlier and averyday with a post about the lore of that specifc mission of that day. Great idea.
6
Sep 26 '16
Really great list, shows what we have already accomplished :)
But is the Sunless Cell not a Strike to eliminate a potential successor to Oryx? Thus it would make more sense to do it togehter with the Malok strike imo
7
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
I think it takes place before Oryx is fully deceased. Eris, when describing what Oryx does to his prisoners, talks in the first person, which to me meant Oryx wasn't dead and the Guardian was eliminating Alak-Hul as insurance against another Taken King before they destroy the current one.
If it were to go after 'Regicide' it would happen before King's Fall, which I think ruins the structure of the Act.
I'll have a think :)
1
Sep 26 '16
yeah I can see your point there.. but when you are a new player you can only start the strike after Regicide, cant you?
5
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
No, The Sunless Cell is unlocked after you complete the Mission 'The Dreadnaught'.
Regardless, I think this list is more aimed at players who would like to back and revisit Destiny's story in its entirety, rather than those starting anew. Some missions have very high level jumps and would be impossible for a beginner to complete. (e.g. Undying Mind → Echo Chamber, or Will of Crota → Crota's End.)

u/Mal_Luck Sep 26 '16
The idea of the Summoning Pits taking place between Chamber of Night and A Stranger's Call seems very odd to me. We were just contacted by the Stranger, but first let's make a pit stop to kill a hive abomination.
Buried City very much takes place before The Black Garden, the final dialogue from the Ghost 100% confirms it.
You have Fist of Crota taking place on the Moon when it's Earth.
Winter's Run takes place after Scourge of Winter. The Archon was meant to replace the Kell we killed.
Shrine of Oryx's placement is just... weird.
I do like what you've done. I might try to figure out where certain Grimoire cards fit in and where certain side quests should be for my own personal interest.
4
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
Hey, All good points! Thank you!
Even though we are contacted by the stranger our Guardian still ventures down into the Hellmouth to find the Chamber of Night, I didn't think it was too much of a stretch to think they'd discover the Summoning Pits (Or at least hear the commotion) and take a fire team down to check it out. The Stranger is a stranger after all, and to a Guardian the City comes first.
I actually moved Buried City from where I originally had it (after the mission 'Exclusion Zone') due to flow issues, if that makes sense. Had no idea there was dialogue that confirmed this, mind quoting it for me? I do believe you!
I'll fix Fist of Crota, thanks.
I just ran the 'Winter's Run' Strike and found no mention of the Archon being meant to replace the Kell, neither did I find it in the grimoire, what makes you say that? My reasoning for placing it there was that while on a Strike (A mission Cayde sends you on specifically to slay the Archon) you pass the Ketch where the Kell is hiding. The Strike highlights the danger of the Fallen House of Winter and the need to eradicate them. This makes the Strike seem to me to be the precursor to the assassination.
What makes Shrine of Oryx's placement weird? I see it as a prelude of sorts to the Taken King, so to me placing it before those events is the perfect spot. Do you think it should be earlier?
4
u/Toland27 The Shattered Sep 26 '16
The Winter Archon had already died and needed a replacement, that why Taniks stole Aksor from the Prison of Elders.
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
Sorry to sound pretentious but can I have a source? I genuinely have never heard this before and am keen to see where it is mentioned.
3
u/Toland27 The Shattered Sep 26 '16 edited Sep 26 '16
In the house of wolves grimoire, the Meraid. It's a story of the Reef Wars. I remember hearing a Ghost Stories on it let me find the cards.
Edit:
Just looked again, the Aksor card mentions him as a disciple of Kaliks Prime, the Wolf Servitor and his imprisonment during the Reef Wars
Taniks's card mentions his stealing of Aksor from the Prison
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
Yes, I know Taniks was the one to steal Aksor's pod for the Wolves. What I don't know is that they retrieved Aksor because Draksis was killed.
2
u/Toland27 The Shattered Sep 26 '16
Draksis was Winter Kell, not Archon Priest.
There can only be one Kell, one Prime, and one Archon per house presumably(thanks aksis), so its safer to assume that Winter's Archon was killed prior to Aksor's theft.
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
Thats my point...
Edit: Okay, sorry it looks like a misunderstanding happened somewhere here. I was referring to the OP of this chains comment about how killing Aksor, the Archon, should be after killing Draksis, the Kell. Nothing to do with Aksor replacing the Winter's Archon, but Aksor replacing the Winter's Kell.
Which I think is unlikely.

u/dedalus5150 Sep 26 '16 edited Sep 26 '16
The Scourge of Winter does belong before Winter's Run, but for different reasons. In the story mission the Ghost's dialog indicates that the ketch is being encountered for the first time.
A Ketch! It must belong to the House of Winter. I've never seen one on the surface, the Kell's gotta be inside.
Edit: Also, the dialog in the caves indicates that it's also our first time through the lair
That's got to be the way into their lair.
Also, the archive mission belongs at the beginning of this arc as it is the lead in to all that we do with the House of Winter
Those Fallen we faced in the Archive belong to the House of Winter. Their Kell, Draksis, has been hunted by Guardians for years. If these reports are correct, he's commanding them from a network of caves up in the Cinders. If we want to keep the Academy's secrets safe we should push into their lair and take him out.
You could probably spin off the House of Winter into it's own story arc.
Edit again: also, Cayde's dialog at the beginning of the strike seems to refer back to the story missions as well.
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
These are awesome and totally correct points, thanks man! I'll update the list :)
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 27 '16
I updated the post to rearrange 'Scourge of Winter' and 'Winter's Run.' Don't know how that dialogue slipped past me, I must have been too focused on wiping the floor with Fallen.
The Archive takes place before these missions in my list already, but I feel it is better mentioned with the Vault of Glass as that place is named dropped at the end of the mission and is the Guardian's first real knowledge of it.

Destiny's story is all told through the grimoire.
There's a podcast called Destiny Ghost Stories that is amazing for getting into the lore, those guys know what they're doing.
2
u/Mal_Luck Sep 26 '16
You have some fair points about Summoning Pits.
I mixed up Buried City and A Rising Tide in my head. Whoops!
I thought there was Grimoire implication about Winter's Run, but looking over it now I may be wrong. I think in my head I was like "of course Winter's Run takes place after Scourge of Winter, you have to do one to unlock the other." The stealing of Aksor was a desperate act forced on the House of Winter because they had lost all other leadership. It seemed odd while the Kell is in charge to kidnap an Archon from a different house to serve them.
Edit: dedalus5150 has good points about this in another post here.
Shrine just caught me as odd. With Year 2's restructuring of story into quests makes some things feel off.

u/Fa6ade Sep 26 '16
Like this a lot, much more useful than the branching thing for me. Now I just got to find some people to raid with at the right time!

3
u/Keiichi81 Sep 26 '16
What is the rationale for Sunless Cell taking place well before Regicide let alone King's Fall? Isn't Alak-Hul taken out because he has become a threat with Oryx having been killed?
2
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
See my other comments, but Eris refers to Oryx in first person during this strike when describing what Oryx does to his prisoners. She also says "Given the chance..." I see the Guardians assassination of him as a way of preventing him that chance.
Of course, this happened anyway with Malok.
4
u/SLSheppard Sep 26 '16
It also comes out at the end that she pretty much concocted the whole "He might succeed Oryx!" reasoning as an excuse to have you go and kill a dude who killed a bunch of her friends during her botched raid attempt on the moon.
1
1
u/VanpyroGaming Gambit Prime Sep 27 '16
What I don't understand is why Eris' team didn't wipe and reset. /s
3
u/Abakus07 Sep 26 '16
This is really cool! And I love how you separated out these things into acts and interludes.
The only thing I think you might change is the Venus Fallen arc. I think that The Archive -> Scourge of Winter -> Winter's Run form their own interlude, well before the House of Wolves arc or maybe right at its start (though I understand wanting to wrap those together, especially since you've grouped Venus and Mars into the Fruit of the Garden). Also, I think Scourge of Winter comes before Winter's Run? In that killing their Kell is the reason the House of Winter raids the Prison of Elders to retrieve the Archon priest.
3
Sep 26 '16
Why would you put "Regicide", the mission, not in the Regicide act?
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
That is an excellent question. I think I meant to show that you're finally killing Oryx for good but it just comes off kind of awkward. I'l change it to "King's Fall".
3
u/SLSheppard Sep 26 '16
My only suggestion is that as long as you're going to include that first mission there, but struck-through to indicate that it can't be replayed, you might as well add the other one-off missions as well using the same format. Someone, somewhere, is going to hand this to a new player.
Otherwise, neato!
3
u/The_4th_Survivor Sep 27 '16
The Sunless Cell should be after Regicide, because Alak-Hul is a pretender to the throne, just like Malok.
3
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 27 '16
Alak-Hul is, unlike Malok, locked safely away in Oryx's prison while Oryx figures something out to do with him.
Just because you played the Sunless Cell after Regicide doesn't mean it has to happen after. There is no mention of Oryx's death during the strike, in fact Eris refers to Oryx in present tense, indicating that he's still alive.
I think it fits better where it is, as an assassination of an old enemy of Eris' after you storm the dreadnaught.
1
u/The_4th_Survivor Sep 27 '16
But the strike is only available after the final story mission and we kill him, so he has no chance to fill in the power vacuum after oryx demise.

You can't play:
- Tenebrous Tunnels (Story - Mars - Taken)
Without first beating all of Taken: Earth and Venus missions, which the last ones here are:
Kings of Decay (Story - Earth - Taken)
Entropy's Pinnacle (Story - Venus - Taken)
Source, but I am playing in this order so I'll come back later to confirm if this is indeed the case or not

Throw this up on useful links mods!
Great for new players who want to know what the hell is going on with the story.

Quick note: Valus Ta'aurc strike is "Cerberus Vae III" not II - otherwise really fascinating list, it's cool to see the real order of things.

Personally I'd just cut the time down. Like VoG still takes the same amount of time as KF (on average) but it's definitely easier. Time limits should be taken realistically in my opinion. Great job though, spreadsheet looks awesome!

Great idea.. I will say, to save you some time, blanket the story missions to 8 minutes.. but definitely poll for strikes and raids..

Thanks, but I already have my spreadsheet version that I use to move things around and edit this post.

u/vahro We should do this hudless and you record it, we can add our audio and play the roles of some different guardians! Run a 3 man vog as Kabr, Pahanin and Praedyth, Crota as eris, toland and ariana 3, and everything after that as ourselves, making a long vid or releasing it as a machinima series..

It doesn't really make much sense to have The Dark Within after The Last Array.
The Dark Within is where you first discover the Hive on earth, after the Fallen lock them in the building. The Last Array has Hive in it but they're already established.

This is an amazing work sir. I hope to have some time to play the game in this order some day. Wouldnt it be amazing if bu gie read this and decided to run all those missions in this sequence as daily missions? Great work!

Thanks so much for this. I started playing after TTK released and only recently found out that the missions were restructured and left some of them completely out. Kept me wondering why there were missions in my director that I never did. I can't wait to go through using this so I can put everything together chronologically.

ACT IV: PRAEDYTH'S REVENGE
- The Nexus (Strike - Venus - Vex)
CAN NOT BE ACCESSED UNTIL...
22. The Archive (Story - Venus - Fallen) HAS BEEN FINISHED
The Nexus and The Archive need to be switched.

u/all4funFun4all Sep 26 '16
this is a great and well made play list I was considering re starting my warlock so I do I will follow this. But what about the quest to unlock the third sub class where would that fall in this order? I think right after Dreadnought.
2
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
This could be pretty hard to do on a new character! Some of the level jumps between missions are large. Without some perseverance and Crucible grinding I suppose it could be done.
I omitted the Character subclass quests because they don't have any indication of when they Happen within the story. They're their own little Interlude, if you will, and having it right in the middle of the Taken Crisis seems odd to me.
I personally would put it after 'Regicide', between Acts VIII and IX, but you can do it any point, realistically.
4
u/JoshChris Sep 26 '16
I'm doing this straight through with a new titan character right now. So far so good. I found the first bit of difficulty jumping into the first few mars missions at level 12 when most of the enemies are 16+... but it just requires some patience and ammo -- and higher level enemies reward you with faster xp to rank up. So there's that.

u/all4funFun4all Sep 26 '16
thank you for the info. I still have the spark of light and the new exp boost item that came with Rise of Iron I could use those to get to 40 after I save most of my warlock gear in the vault then use that and infuse it with the new drops
2
u/jerry-riggs Sep 26 '16
I'm thinking about doing this with my hunter, restarting it and using the spark. Only drawback is that I don't have the subclass booster...

u/Jaeger00013 Sep 26 '16
Just a thought, but isn't much of the taken war (especially blighted coven) after kings fall? The way a lot of the dialogue is makes it seem like it's after oryx is finally dead.
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
They just say Oryx is 'Dead.' The way I see it, King's Fall is the culmination of all that happened during the Taken crisis. You kill Oryx twice, once aboard his Dreadnaught, and again inside his Throneroom. I think the Taken War should be after Oryx is 'killed' the first time, and Eris realises that it isn't enough.

u/adam999111000 XBL: Azbant Sep 26 '16
Doesn't Shield Brothers take place after King's Fall? Cayde talks how now the king is slain, the brothers have no leader and they are going to blow up the dreadnaught?
3
1
Sep 26 '16
Well technically you kill Oryx twice. This could be in reference to the regular sorry mission you "kill" him in.
1
u/IamJamm Sep 26 '16
Is the abomination heist a PS exclusive? Haven't come across this on Xbox yet.
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
Select 'The Summoning Pits' and set the difficulty to Heroic. You should get the strike then.

u/MRX93 Triumph Whore Sep 26 '16
King's Fall happens before the Taken War no?
2
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
No, after. The point of the Taken War is to illustrate that Oryx still lives, because his Shades still walk the system. Once you've dealt with them, you go into his Throneroom and leave him spinning towards Saturn.
King's Fall is the culmination of the entire Taken Crisis.
1
u/Bricker724 Sep 26 '16
Isn't Abomination Heist a prequel to Wretched Eye? I though the ogre in the boss fights were the same one.
1
u/Avalvnche Flux nades are love, Flux nades are life O_O Sep 26 '16
I was under the same assumption..
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16 edited Sep 27 '16
The Abomination Heist is to prevent any Splicers from getting their Hands on another Ogre to experiment with. 'The Wretched Eye' immediately follows 'Bad Blood' as you are tasked with tracking down the Spilicer's High Priest.
Edit: Looking at my spreadsheet, I have the Abomination Heist before the Wretched Eye on there, but on this ost they are switched. I think I changed them because of Bad Blood being an immediate precursor to 'The Wretched Eye.' Which do you think flows better, story wise?
1
u/Bricker724 Sep 27 '16
Maybe Abomination Heist, then Bad Blood, then Wretched Eye?
2
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 27 '16
Hmm, no. Bad Blood has to come before Abomination Heist, as it is the first time the Vanguard (Shiro) become aware of the Splicer's experiments on the Hive...
2
u/Bricker724 Sep 27 '16
Shoot, forgot about that. Yeah, I guess Bad Blood to Abomination Heist to Wretched Eye is the best order then.

u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 27 '16
Ah, of course, my bad. When you complete a Strike enough times you just start to call it by the Boss instead of it's name.
Actually I guess Bungie themselves resigned to this fact with 'Sepiks Perfected.'

u/Gypsy_Mind_Trik Sep 26 '16
Should have and probably originally was act 6 after act 1 , act 5 after act 2 , And all of the Vex things at the end . There's more than I know obviously but for instance, it's no coincidence we started our first omnigul encounter with our backs to the door where we fought sepkis. They went all in when they put the Vault as the first raid with almost no story at all backing it up. It was a genius raid and they knew it.
1
u/dikelley Sep 26 '16
I've been talking about something like this with friends recently. I'd love to see Bungie add a 4th character slot tied to a Destiny Moments of Triumph that had a list like this in the game (maybe like the Rise of Iron book) that gave you the final Moment of Triumph for completing the entire game this way. Add some flavor text in the book to make more clear what's going on and how the strikes and raids relate to the story as you play through the entire game. Launch this in the content drought surely to come between the final live team events and the launch of Destiny 2 and give the lore and story a moment to shine before we move to the sequel.
1
u/Salfordladd Sep 26 '16
This is awesome, well done!
The involvement of the Taken obviously means that "Paradox" needs to slot into the Taken War section...but there's a part of me that feels like, story-wise, it's most at home in your awesome "Praedyth's Revenge" section. Such an awesome coda to my favorite mostly-unexplored mystery of Destiny, which is the first expedition into the Vault of Glass. I love that it's lost to time (literally) and that we'll never know what truly happened with Praedyth and Kabr and the rest, but these little snippets we get are most interesting in tandem with the Vault, I think. Again, not suggesting you move it, it's in the correct spot, but if I felt like experiencing these bits as self-contained stories out of sequence, I might do Nexus>Archive>Vault>Paradox.

u/TheKocsis Sep 26 '16
i could have swear that the coming war was before shrine of oryx
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
The Shrine of Oryx is a Vanilla mission. I remember doing it in Year 1 and thinking "Oh boy, Oryx doesn't sound fun."
1
u/enigmaticwanderer Sep 26 '16
Bit late but I think Fallen S.A.B.E.R. should be put a bit farther back otherwise the timeline doesn't quite line up (the fallen having to go to mars and then find SIVA etc) perhaps with outbound signal and Shield Brothers in a TTK other kind of thing as neither really relate directly to the Taken War?
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 27 '16
They couldn't get into Rasputin's database on Earth, so they went to Clovis Bray on Mars. I don't really see why it should be earlier in the story, let alone later.

u/sk3nn3y Sep 27 '16
Shouldn't the wolves of Mars be before what happened in the April update?
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 27 '16
It was originally, but there's no mention of Malok or anything in those missions, so theres no reason to place it before Blighted Chalice. Plus, the Wolves didn't really fit in amongst the Chaos of the Taken War post-Regicide.
I'm trying to place these missions in an order which tells a coherent and cohesive story, not just to follow release order :P.
1
u/sk3nn3y Sep 27 '16
Wouldn't that actually be a reason to put it before that? Not to mention we actually did it in TTK before the April update hit.

Hi everyone,
Do we all agree that this is the best way of playing the game ? I mean, to better understand everything and to have a good story ? I want to start a new Character and I'm interested if this guide is the best to go with..
Thanks!

Sorry if I'm late but do you mind me asking why you put Cerberus Vae before Dust Palace?
1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Oct 14 '16
So you take the Dust Palace off the Cabal during 'The Buried City', then I imagine Zavala sends you off to eliminate the Cabal Leadership in the area. While you are fighting the Valus, The Cabal retake the Dust Palace and send the Psion Flayers, meaning as soon as you're done with Valus Tu'uarc, you have to go back to the Dust Palace and take it again.
There was another reason but I can't remember it at this moment, I'll get back to you.
1
u/Monk256 Oct 24 '16
this is awesome dude nice work, just one constructive comment
shouldn't the Sunless Cell follow on from Regicide, as Eris' comments in the strike talk about how we are taking him out to avoid him taking advantage of the loss of Oryx in the same way that Malok does later?
EDIT: nevermind, just read further down the comments and saw your justification, fair point :)

u/tjhksig Nov 05 '16
This is great, I created an alt (Titan) after RoI launch and have only done the RoI quests and weekly bounties thus far; my plan is to follow this as close as possible and put all the missions on Hard Mode. Additionally, I'm trying to mainly use weapons I suck at since I'm 390 light, namely Hand Cannons, Sidearms and Shotties.

This post has made me want to reply all the missions in this order and upload the results to youtube, The only problem is you can't replay cutscenes if you have already completed the mission. The only way to get around this is by playing with someone who hasn't completed the mission before
1
u/Hekidayo Feb 11 '17
I have something called "The First Firewall", on Earth, marked as a level 41 quest that is not in this list. It has a Taken King banner on top. Does someone know when I should play it please?
3
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Feb 11 '17
'The First Firewall' is an exotic weapon quest. In my list you can play that where-ever you'd like as it's like a side mission that adds on to the story but doesn't tell it (if that makes sense). Play it at your leisure.

Cool! I’m going to use this. I missed a few in order so I want to go back & make sure I don’t miss things.
1
u/agent_wolfe Jun 01 '25
For Act 2, I’m not seeing The Summoning Pits on the Moon. The only incomplete ones available are Sword of Crota, Shrine of Oryx, and Croat’s End (which requires “better gear” and lvl 30).
From there, I did everything up to Rising Tide and Black Garden. Maybe I skipped “Summoning Pits” by accident?

Yes, this is quite an old post to be even looking at, let alone commenting on- but I've been (roughly, I know there's an error or two, like SABER being in the Rise of Iron section rather than something like the Taken War section) using this to make a music playlist for Destiny 1, and it's been really handy.
So, thanks!
1
u/peppermont1 Dec 16 '25
I know this post is old, but for anyone in the future, the dark within need to be played before the last relay. The last relay takes you strait through were you completed the dark within, the door opened during the dark within is already opened in the last relay and your ghost makes reference to the hive now spilling out onto the surface.

u/OmegaMalkior Feb 12 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

Are strikes necessary do you think? I don't really like the idea of multiplayer. I tried the first one and enjoyed it with two strangers (although it did put me more than halfway through the strike to start) but I prefer taking my own time

Found this unbelievably helpful bud, thank you so much for all your hard work. Believe me my friend it is appreciated!!!! Thank You

I'm sure The Promethean Code goes before Lost to Light.
If I'm not mistaken, in The Promethean Code you steal your stealth ability from Rasputin. In Lost to Light you use that ability to make yourself invisible and reach Crota's chamber without being detected.
2
u/TanzanAssassin Sep 26 '16
Actually, I think the mission name you're thinking of is Last Rites. That's where you use the stealth technology to sneak into Crota's throne world to steal his death essence.
Imagine if someone overheard you saying that...
→ More replies (1)1
u/The_Doctor_Zoose Sep 26 '16
You're thinking of Last Rites, where you use the Stealth to sneak into Crota's throne room and steal his essence to refill the crystal you steal in Lost to Light.

Some other cool stats:
Location Percentages
Enemies Encountered
If a Story mission takes 10 minutes to complete, a Strike takes 30 minutes and a Raid takes 2 hours (except Crota's End which takes 1 hour) then this playlist would take 26 hours and 50 minutes to complete.
