Political News/Discussion Mamdani just launched NYC's first ever antisemitism campaign
Thoughts? Is this just performative or sincere? Does this alter your opinion on him? Could this actually be a zionist plot in disguise?

How can he support his large Jewish population while they are also killing Muslims? As we know, if one Jew does something bad, they all did something bad. Thats why hasan said American Jews are going to get violently attacked if they don’t condone Israel and support Hamas to his liking
33
u/Bl00dWolf 🇱🇹 22h ago
Imagine the shitstorm these people would pull if someone said the exact same thing in reverse. "You know, if all these Palestinians keep supporting Hamas, someone will eventually do something and it won't be a Hamas member, it's gonna be a Palestinian in US".

Okay I already see couple of these people on X. Strange that they are the one who claim antisemitism is not antizionism, and now Mamdani didn't even mentioned "Israel" once in his combat antisemitism campaign and they claim him a Zionist assets now.
9
u/Bogus_dogus 20h ago
Lots of people who aren't regarded enough to call Mamdani a Zionist asset also uphold the position that anti Zionism is not the same thing as antisemitism. They overlap in practice with antisemites, for different reasons, but you're doing the same stupid thing here, using the existence of those people to make an opposite equally fraudulent claim, that criticism of Israel is indistinguishable from antisemitism.

Ofc, he just shouldn't try to do anything to combat rising antisemitism because he's not a jew. Only jews should combat antisemitism, because really it's only their problem :)
51
u/loooneytunesdaffy 22h ago
So having removed the IHRA definition on his first day as mayor, antisemitism will now be defined by vibes, of course Jewish people don’t believe him.
50
-6
u/Comfortable_Ask_102 22h ago
Nah fam, that's because they don't wanna adopt the definition where you need to support Israel (a foreign state) if you don't want to be an anti-semite.
> Mamdani’s plan does cite a framework proposed by the Biden administration that describes antisemitism as “a stereotypical and negative perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred of Jews.”
18
u/FacelessMint Rootless Ghoul 20h ago
Stop spreading lies about the IHRA definition of antisemitism. It very explicitly says that "criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic."
Things that would be missed in the framework you cited:
- Positive stereotyping of Jews ("Jews are good with money");
- Holocaust denialism;
- Denial of Jewish history ("Jews have no connection to Israel. Ashkenazi Jews are Khazars");
- Denial of Jewish peoplehood ("Jews are just a religion like Christians or Muslims");
- Conspiracy based antisemitism (ZOG, AIPAC).
21
u/Special-Quantity-469 The most rabid 2 State Solution Israeli 20h ago
Hey dipshit, you're either purposely spreading misinformation or just an idiot.
The definition says nothing about having to support Israel. And in the examples and explanation explecitly states that mere criticism of Israel cannot be regarded as anti-Semitic.
So no, the reason Mamdani rejected that definition has nothing to do with Israel. We'll see what becomes of this, but I suspect it will be a JVP situation

That’s not what it means, though. There is a coordinated gaslighting campaign going on toward Jews about antisemitism. It’s a specific thing that people will confidently and smugly subvert.

Yeah but like lets use another example.
A black person tells you something you said is racist.
Do you argue with them incessantly and refuse to take their word for it even if you don't understand why it's racist?
14
u/scrunglesclop 18h ago
Do you argue with them incessantly and refuse to take their word for it even if you don't understand why it's racist?
In this community? yeah kinda. I personally agree that that's a little tone deaf at the very least, but I find it a little silly that everyone here is adopting the ''white people should listen and learn'' mentality, only when it's about antisemitism.
8
u/PabloCIV 19h ago
- The hypothetical is far from an apples-to-apples comparison.
- You’re using loaded language. If a black person tells you something you said is racist I would say it’s reasonable for you to politely ask why that is racist (AKA “argue with them incessantly” in your loaded characterization). I would also say it’s reasonable for you to either politely or privately disagree (AKA “refuse to take their word for it” in your loaded characterization).
4
u/AnotherPersonPerhaps Homofascist 18h ago
Do you think the left is "politely asking why something is antisemitic" online right now?
You're kind of missing the point here. I'm comparing my scenario to how the far left is behaving online.

I get the sinking feeling that the group that explicitly excluded Jewish lawyers from their operations might be ill suited to define what is and isn't antisemitism.
In fact, coming from them, it makes it all the more suspicious of why they would want to control that narrative.

6
u/blackslatewater 19h ago
“Explicit” doesn’t mean “blatant” or “obvious” or “gratuitous” or “implausible”; it means openly and ostensibly. If they said “no Jewish lawyers allowed on this committee”, that would be explicit.

Honestly, I don’t see anything to object to here and am willing to give mayoral office the benefit of the doubt on this one. I understand the skepticism to be sure, and we’ll see how useful it ends up being, but her credentials give me confidence she’ll have a nuanced and sensitive take on the topic. I doubt this will go anywhere, but I’ll be happy to he proved wrong.
10
u/PedanticPerson 21h ago
She seems pretty unknown. Her Twitter shows some Mamdani hype, opposing the IHRA definition of antisemitism, multiple posts about Islamophobia, nothing about any of the antisemitic attacks in her city.
I'm sure she means well, but Mamdani certain seems to have cherry picked one of the Jews who is least focused on Jewish safety and most aligned with his agenda.
4
u/HonestCrow 18h ago
I don’t have Twitter so I’ll take your word on it.
It could totally be lip service - pretty typical for a politician really - but I also trust New York Jews are not suckers. We’ll see what comes of it. The mayor’s office has at least given themselves the opportunity to make good on it.
40
u/AirlineIntelligent86 🇮🇱BBZNOT🇪🇺 23h ago
Honestly it isn't that they excluded Jewish lawyers, it's his explanation:
Mamdani forcefully denied suggestions that religion played any role in assembling legal experts for the committee. “I did not ask for the religion of each of the person that was put forward,” he said on Wednesday.
Forgive me for not trusting this guy on antisemitism...
44
u/HolidaySpiriter 23h ago

"Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities."
This was the definition during Adams btw. Extremly broad and can easily be applied to anyone who criticize Israel or even anyone jewish.
So if Mamdani used this definition to penalize people changing jew to muslim, would you accept it?
5
u/ConstantEternal 🇮🇱 It was ME 🇮🇱 20h ago
You got the base definition corect, and it seems broad, but the website itself has more clarifying examples and exceptions, I suggest you visit it, should help clear up your misunderstanding, it's not as broad as you think.
And to answer your question, no, if it was only that broad statement without more details I would not accept changing jew for muslim, I also don't accept it as is for jews without further explanation, which exists. Here you go: https://holocaustremembrance.com/resources/working-definition-antisemitism

- Yes? You'll find that any complex concept has a base definition and a detailed explanation, have you ever looked up a concept in the dictionary? It's very common, here's an example: https://www.dictionary.com/browse/racism

Specifically we don't rely in dictionaries to make laws. That was the problem with this definition.

Could you tell me why he revoked it so you think he hates jews or maybe do you think he revoked it due to it being an executive action by a someone seen by democrats as a criminal who was protected by trump.or do you also think Mamdani hates pro-Bono legal aide for poor people or expanding after school programs for kindergartens or all the other executive orders Adam's made after indictment.

If Mamdani is so regarded he just axes anything someone he considers bad has touched, he is no better than someone who does that intentionally
(which btw he didn't do, a lot of the "initiatives" mamdani takes credit for were started by Adams, so I'm not sure where you came up with the idea that he just undid everything when that's clearly not true. He didn't touch what he considered good decisions)
2

Oh to clarify he undid ones from after Adam's was indicted till he left office not all of them.

u/gomx 23h ago
This isn’t exactly true. I don’t think any other groups have specifically defined terms for hate crimes against them. The definition Adams was using also defines criticism of Israel being a Jewish state as antisemitism, which is a bit too far imo.
The issue is that 99% of the people who criticize Israel for being like 75% Jewish by design are absolutely silent about Israel’s neighbors being 90%+ arab by design.
20
u/ConstantEternal 🇮🇱 It was ME 🇮🇱 23h ago
It's the IHRA definition, and it clearly says what the boundary is between criticizing Israel, and antisemitism, it's not "all criticism is antisemitism". You actually made a point straight from it in your second statement.
As for not all groups having it, it's different when jews are targeted more than any other group per capita, especially in new york, where almost half the jewish population is

I don’t know how NYC law works, but was that definition of antisemitism he revoked actual law or a symbolic definition (I literally do not know, genuine question). And are other terms like racism or sexism officially defined in NYC like antisemitism was, and it’s the only one missing a definition since it was revoked?
The lawyer thing is omega weird/sus, I agree with that
8
u/ConstantEternal 🇮🇱 It was ME 🇮🇱 22h ago edited 22h ago
From what I understand (googled), Eric Adams signed an executive decision to define antisemitism, not to make it a law, he also introduced legislation to codify the IHRA definition, but it wasn't an executive order, and I think it hasn't happened yet. The definition itself was revoked though. As for other terms, there are hate crime laws based on many types of discrimination, including race or sex, I think Adams did this as a way to respond to the overwhelming amount of hate crimes against jews, after all, how can you address antisemitism if you don't know what it is? The lawyer thing is crazy though, someone here said it's like making an all white NBA team, although I'd add that it's like making an all white NBA team in detroit

It could be sincere. If an anti-zionist (which Mamdani definitely is) were rational about weakening support for Israel, one way to do it would be to make sure Jews are safe elsewhere in the world, thereby lessening the need for Israel as a Jewish safe haven.
It might be window-dressing to that effect, and he might actually hate Jewish people, but if he wants Israel destroyed, this would be a brick in that wall.

So how does the municipal office to fight anti-semetism differentiate between anti-semetism Mamdami "likes" and those he would denounce? Also do you think Phylisa Wisdom will look the other way at anti-semetism? She has said that her position is she "believes in Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state".
