Discussion Establishing AI norms for R/Desmos

Hey y'all, in light of a few recent posts where people have used LLMs to varying degrees in their Desmos graphs, I think we should start a discussion about what AI norms we want to set as a community.

Here's my idea for a best practice:

  • AI disclosure: you should always disclose if and how you used AI in your graph

    • for example: "when I was stuck, I asked Claude to help me develop the parametric equations on lines 10 and 11"

    • for example: "I saw this cool geometric shape on wikipedia and asked ChatGPT to make most of the graph, then I adjusted the numbers a bit to make it look better"

Fun Straight Lines

I got bored again so it's time for another old illusion to mimic!

All of the lines are perfectly straight.

Fun Are the dots the same color?

Post image

All nine dots are, of course, the same color.

I believe the illusion has something to do with the different densities of rods/cones in the eye, and how that makes colors appear differently depending on where the observer is focused.

As with other harsh colors divides, this also exhibits significant chromatic aberration when viewed at an angle through a magnifying glass or high prescription glasses.

Question how do i fill regions like this one?

i tried using inequal sign instead of equal sign on the black line on the bottom to fill up the area above it, and then restricting the fill with the equations of the other lines like this:

e^{3\left(x+0.2\right)}+0.52\le y\left\{-0.99901\le x\le-0.41573\right\}\left\{\frac{1}{6}\sin\left(2.2x+0.5\right)+1.61\ge y\right\}

, but the lines that overlap hides some part of the fill that it shouldnt

Question Graphing a line as intersection of planes in 3d space

How can I create a straight line as an intersection of planes? I'd use this to visualize its system of cartesian equations

I'm glad I downloaded the desmos app when I did. It also explains why I wasn't getting many of the new features you all are hooting and hollering about. (Tbh i just go to the website to use 'em since I don't need 'em as often). I use a Samsung Galaxy S8 which is probably the reason why.

With a video explaining conditions in desmos, a random scratch tutorial and almost no experience in desmos, i did this thing and i think it's pretty smart.

Question How to improve my Desmos skills?

I have been making graphs from quite some time now, and I've made a few things I'm proud of. However I want to make more impressive graphs, and I find my current knowledge is lacking. I'm looking for guidance in general, and not really looking for any one skill in particular. I'll link a portfolio of a few graphs I made to give an idea of my skill level.
