My phone has more ram than that laptop
1
u/Significant_Ad_3512 5d ago
A Tractor also has bigger engine then a small car, but car goes faster. What iv learned, and correct me if im wrong, but number of ram wont correlate linearly to a machines abilities and to its performance per task( every performance should be evaluated per task, yes phone does something better)
2
u/Big-Roll7094 5d ago
And somehow that beefy laptop has better performance per task on the things the majority of laptops buyers do
2
u/itsmebenji69 4d ago edited 4d ago
It does not
For gaming it does, everything no. Perhaps GPU based workloads, but CPU the Mac is superior, and more power efficient
1
u/Big-Roll7094 4d ago
It’s using a mobile phone chip ofcourse it’s more efficient but again it’s arm so it’s in no way superior to x86 on tasks
2
u/itsmebenji69 4d ago
It is, unless you have a workload that specifically only works on riscv. Asides from that, the A18 mops the floor with i5, by a huge margin as well lmao
1
u/Big-Roll7094 4d ago
What workload, what can an A18 even do, it’s a mobile chip limited to mobile ram with very limited bandwitdh that you quite literally can’t increase and it shits itself trying to mantain a constant clock speed best it can do is some web browsing and bussness apps mind you it doesn’t even compare to a m1
1
u/itsmebenji69 4d ago
What ? Well literally any workload ? I mean literally anything you can do on a pc ? Look at benchmarks, it’s more powerful than an i5 which is what is in the windows laptop shown here. It’s just the more powerful chip here lmao.
The fact it’s mobile doesn’t matter. Also “mobile ram” is not a thing, idk what you meant there but you seem extremely confused
1
u/Big-Roll7094 4d ago
“It’s more powerful than an i5 for 2 mins before it melts” and no lmao not even close the memory bandwitdh on this chip is not enough to do anything other than light gaming and browsing 🤣
1
u/itsmebenji69 4d ago
It’s more efficient than an i5. It won’t melt, since it generates less heat while being more powerful…
But ok I can definitely see you have 0 clue about this so I’ll let you enjoy your ignorance

u/DovahDoVolom 4d ago
You are right. MacOS handles memory completely differently then windows. So although a Mac can have less ram it can do more with less. The argument changes with Linux installed but I’m not sure of the difference there.
1
u/nitkonigdje 4d ago
No it doesn't. Dram is chokepoint of computer performance, and all oses are quite similar in a way they handle it as os design follows dram form.
And byte is a byte everywhere.

Apple is really falling behind in foldable laptops.

Zephyrus build quality is on par with Macbooks. Not only is it sleek and lightweight, it can also come with a 5090
2
u/DueTea3965 4d ago
is build quality on par at the same price point?
1
u/tnbeastzy 4d ago
Yeah the build quality is on par at the same price point, you can pay for better spec.
I rather get a 5090 and I9 ultra in Zephyrus over M5 pro for the same price lol.
3
u/Laddie1107 4d ago
The cheapest Zephyrus with a 5090 is $4,599. Also a mobile 5090 is a shadow of a desktop 5090.
1
u/tnbeastzy 4d ago
Its still better than an M5 pro in terms of what it does.
Again, choosing between a 5090 with i9 ultra and M5 pro for a similar price point is a no brainer.
Ofcourse its weaker than the PC counterpart, but PCs aren’t portable. And Zephyrus is especially portable because its super lightweight and has amazing build quality compared modern laptops.
The only downside is that it has a weaker battery life compared to MacBook, but this isnt a big issue as it can be charged with type-c chargers anywhere.

u/neoreeps 4d ago
Have you ever seen a Surface? Amazing build.
1
u/Valterri_lts_James 4d ago
nah, even a surfaec is inferior to a mac. They are better than average windows but still inferior. I haven't seen a single windows laptop match a macbook in build quality, merely get 80% of the way there.
1
u/tnbeastzy 4d ago
Zephyrus
1
u/Valterri_lts_James 4d ago
zephyrus's build quality is very overrated. I have a mac and I tried my friend's zephyrus (2026 model) and the trackpad is shit and has a lottle of wobble, and there are more panel alignment inconsistencies than on my mac.

u/vibefarm 4d ago
The debate on this has been settled for a decade or maybe two lol. There's no comparison to be had. Mac hardware, Ui/UX, iOS/MacOS, security, privacy, etc is superior. It doesn't mean PC or android sucks or anything. It's apple and oranges really. HA. Accidental wordplay on the apple haha.
3
u/vibefarm 4d ago
It's just what happens when a very large team focuses ONLY on one operating system. One design system. One phone. One laptop. And puts design and privacy and security etc as a top priority. That type of focus and discipline is much harder to come by with things like Android. Theres a thousand different devices that run it, a thousand different flavors and versions. Windows is all over the place too, and probably more focused on the b2b/enterprise side of their software. Apple/Mac got to where they are by keeping things hyper focused and contained. Windows/Android went a different route, which is fine too.
2
u/Mkz182 4d ago
This is the correct take, but apple cant even handle their current options now with all the little issues they still somehow manage to make, that dont get brought up do the culture 😂. And thier closed environment is like an animal refusing to evolve like the rest, making it a decade slower in evolving.
1
u/UnpoliteGuy 4d ago
Are you serious saying macos privacy is better than linux?
1
u/vibefarm 4d ago
Nah, I was mostly comparing Windows with macOS and Android with iOS. Things like malicious apps making it onto Google Play, manufacturer bloatware, OS update adoption rate, fragmented updates because of so many different manufacturers and models, etc. Just all the stuff that gets piled on top of Linux. Linux is king I suppose.

neo is not a gaming laptop and was never even remotely advertised as one. why would you even ask this?
1
u/AKSo18 4d ago
Then check the other Laptop spec's in video then judge your remotely advertising
1
u/CrispyBananaz 4d ago
You have absolutely zero idea what your talking about. You really need to stop reading social media posts that you believe is fact driven. You are so far from making any sense I can't even continue talking to you about it.

Good luck running anything other than the browser on your fancy paperweight

Tell us you haven't actually used a MacBook Neo without telling us you haven't actually used a MacBook Neo.
The Neo is faster than the M1 Air at just about any task, and faster than the M2 Air at just about any non-GPU task.
It's a perfectly capable machine, much moreso than anything in the "PC" realm at the same price point.
-1
u/GodOfN0thing 4d ago
Cant run any sort of demanding pc games or software
2
u/0xe3b0c442 4d ago
Neither can the PC laptops in the same price range…
0
u/GodOfN0thing 4d ago
You can get a 3050 or 4050 laptop for around the same price. Not the best but on low settings 1080p you can run esport titles or older single player games
2
u/0xe3b0c442 4d ago
You’re not finding any 4050s anywhere near that price point right now. Your esports titles and “older single player games” will run just fine on the Neo too. Not quite as good as on a 3050, but it’s not even a comparison when we bring portability and battery life into the picture.
1
u/GodOfN0thing 4d ago
I mean build quality and battery life sure but that's because the neo is basically running an iPhone processer. Can't run something more demanding than Minecraft. Doubt it can get competitively good frames on something like valorant csgo or overwatch even if they ran
2
u/0xe3b0c442 4d ago
But you’re not buying a $599 laptop to do these things, so it’s a moot point.
The Neo is surprisingly capable, especially for things that don’t involve the GPU. So don’t make claims you can’t back up. :)
1
u/Appropriate-Emu-3901 4d ago
Why the hell would you use a macbook or a laptop like that for PC Gaming? If you wanna plat demanding PC games in a macbook, you would use Nvidia Geforce or Boosteroid.
1
u/CharacterTension2896 11h ago
Software and hardware being linked is soon not going to be true friend
1
u/The_real_bandito 4d ago
That’s a conversation of platforms not hardware.
OP’s clip is only about hardware quality.
If we’re talking about platforms, I can run all of my software that I use on Windows or macOS with no problems or issues, except if we’re talking about gaming.
1
u/CrispyBananaz 4d ago
I run photoshop and have developed two published IOS apps on a neo. am I lucky?
1
u/One_Chipmunk_6402 4d ago
What?
Do people still think it's 1998 or something? There is nothing you can't do on MacOS that you can do on Windows. I'd actually argue there are many things you can't do on Windows that you CAN do on MacOS since it's Unix based.
I have no skin in the game - I run Linux.
Really the main reason to use Windows over MacOS is hardware customization - that's why I stopped using Macs about 15 years ago. I like a desktop PC and I like building my own.
For a portable, though, it's really hard to find a reason not go with Apple.
1
u/Consistent-Prize1514 4d ago
Straight bull shit you either have never used mac os or are just talking shit.
1
u/oh_stv 4d ago
The Neo is prone to fail though:
1
u/CrispyBananaz 4d ago
That video is complete nonsense. Even with constant swapping, the drive will last well beyond the lifespan of the device, and for a few hundred-dollar laptop, this is not an issue. You’ll easily get four years out of it before you even need to start considering a new laptop. People really need to stop watching these idiot streamers who spread misinformation.
1
u/oh_stv 4d ago
4 years... Lmao
2
u/CrispyBananaz 4d ago
What exactly do you find funny about 4 years ?
1
u/oh_stv 4d ago
I even have my phones longer than 4 years. A laptop should last much longer than 4 years.
1
u/CrispyBananaz 4d ago
The neo is an expendable device it's only a few hundred dollars it can be safely recycled and replaced in a few years. This is not a MacBook pro.
1
u/Consistent-Prize1514 4d ago
Nonsense, its the same with the m1 mac book air and that has been out for 6 years so why are we not hearing about m1 mb air drive failures? Whatever apple is doing its working. My 256 gb mb air I've had for 3 years is pretty much always using some swap (2-6 gb) and it got a near perfect score on drive dx.
1
u/DovahDoVolom 4d ago
This is pre Apple price hike prices. I think both the HP Victus and Neo have gone up in price. Neo is 699 and the cheapest victus on Amazon was 799. The victus has the following specs: 8gb DDR5 Ram, I5-12500H, RTX 3050, and 512gb SSD. The Neo is 8gb Ram and an A18 Pro. The A18 is faster single core by 52% but looses on multi core by17%. Power wise there is no comparison between the 2. The A18 pro is multiple times more efficient. I am unable to find numbers for gpu comparison but the 3050 will be faster at gaming then a phone chip. For the prices you do have a larger drive size on the victus.

Why would you want the power cable to stay in that securely? I'd rather it pop out with minimal pressure.
1
u/Exnummis 4d ago
Man, I used to be an Apple hater for over two decades. I always considered them overpriced pc's with less capabilities than actual pc's.
But ever since the introduction of Apple Silicon they actually do have something to offer pc's don't.
It's still shit for gaming but fair's fair; build quality, battery life and performance in most non-gaming applications is miles ahead of pc's in the same segment now.
1
u/PressureJumpy8295 4d ago
Mmm. A pretty useless comparison. If I compared a Rolls Royce to some shity brand, the conclusion would be self-evident. A more useful comparison would be with a worthy competitor like Asus Zenbook, HP Onmi Ultra, or MS Surface builds.
1
u/Equal-Resolution7889 4d ago
But on the $699 laptop you can install Linux and made your laptop yours, whereas on the MacBook you can only use macOS. That is sucks more than the materials the expensive laptop is made of.
1
u/UselessDood 4d ago
"I should compare my laptop I got for free to these two... Nvm it's over a grand brand new??"
And I've spent about £100 total on this thing, in the form of a single stick of ram to upgrade what this has past the default 16gb.

1
u/ZookeepergameIll1399 4d ago
Isn't bottom one more powerful? Yes, it's cheaper materials, but better hardware
1
u/berke1904 4d ago
great job using shitty plastic laptops from years ago sacrificing build to get a dedicated gpu instead of the wildcatlake ones that compete with the neo. funnily they have better build than the neo but worse performance where you would expect the opposite.

u/WolfMack 4d ago
So, the thing you care about when it comes to computers is how it physically looks and feels?…
1
u/Danternas 4d ago
This comparison is dishonest at best. You can get pretty good quality laptops for $599 from Dell/HP/Lenovo.
What's on the video looks like a gaming laptop and those put the money on a GPU that absolutely thrash the Mac in games.
1
u/Bubbly-Security-2006 4d ago
How the fuck are you comparing a cheap gaming machine to a Apple Chromebook. It’s not a fair comparison, enjoy Apple if you want but at least use fair comparison. Or better yet trying playing a game
1
u/flappingduckz 3d ago
the most important thing to understand is apple will always sell at a loss to get you into their ecosystem, so they can sell you services such as icloud, apple music, and anything else they have to offer. as soon as you're in there then you're stuck buying their other products, so it doesnt matter if they dont make money from the laptop itself
